Special surprise as we were guests this week on the lefty political media criticism podcast Michael And Us to discuss The Simpsons Movie in their particular podcast style. (Consider this a preview of the eight-hour movie podcast we'll do in a few years from now.) So give this a listen for some extra fun chat about the film's politics and how Simpsons changed society and how society changed it. Listen now to this fun crossover!

God I remember the hype for this movie, it felt like the biggest film event of all time to my little 8 year old self. I even went out with my family all the way out to Springfield, New Zealand (yes, we have one too) to experience the unveiling of a giant donut (which is STILL there to this day!)

I was so hyped for the movie and didn't leave disappointed (eh - outside of using Schwarzenegger and Cargill over Wolfcastle and Scorpio). But still it was a long time coming and it was great! They made good use of that PG-13.

I remember seeing this movie like it was yesterday. I know it's not up to the standards of a classic episode but watching it in a packed theatre with a very lively and appreciative audience made it one of the best experiences I've ever had going to see a movie ever. ^_^ By the way, in the UK version I saw, I could SWEAR there was a fully-animated version of the Springfield Anthem being sung by the townsfolk near the end of the film but only an animatic seems to exist on the DVD. Does anyone have any information about this or have I just never heard of the food chain (i.e. am I crazy)?

I had just turned 21 when this movie came out and the theater I went to was one of the first ones I had ever been to that served alcohol. Drinking beers and watching the movie with a massive, enthusiastic audience made it a very fond memory, even though the movie itself was pretty underwhelming.

The film is a mixed bag but give credit where credit is due: Julie's performance in Marge's videotaped monologue to Homer was heartbreaking. Apparently the directors had her do take after take to get it right and she just sounds so completley exhausted with everything, a perfect reflection of a spouse who has simply had enough of a toxic relationship and just wants out.

Very fun episode and only increases my interest in getting the full-on Talking Simpsons episode of this down the line. I had a GREAT TIME with the movie in theatres in 2007, and sat on fond memories for the next ten years, but didn't watch it again until the Monday Night Movie stream Hank was on for the tenth anniversary. I still liked it more than I disliked it then, but the stuff of not trusting the audience/fans really bothered me more than it did back then. -- Also, it is straight FUCKED UP and awful that Bill and Josh didn't work on the movie. I can only dream about how much better it would have been with their involvement, let alone if they had ended up as the architects of it while Al Jean still juggled the show itself. Obviously they probably wouldn't have been interested in that much responsibility on it at the point in time the film was developed, but boy would it have been awesome.
