We'll discuss all that plus some fun teases about future podcasts, we discuss what we played/watched during the month, AND we respond to some of our favorite Patreon comments! So listen now!

Man, that WAC Movie poll selection for May is tough. Back in Action sounds like a shoe in, but I’d be fascinated to hear your take down on Cool World. Casper and R&B are equally dark horse candidates. I saw three out of four of these in theaters, you can guess which ones. Plus, Roger Rabbit will have to be a two parter movie podcast when it comes, given the immense amount of history and story detail to its name

Rocky and Bullwinkle was a guilty pleasure of mine. I haven't seen Looney Tunes: Back in Action since 2003, but I remember liking it.

The difference between Goofy and Pee-wee is that Goofy bumbles his way through life while inconveniencing others and annoyingly laughing it off with a dumb "hyuck-gwarsh," whereas Pee-wee knows what he's doing and lives his life with surprising competence; when he affects others' lives, he has a POSITIVE effect instead of leaving a trail of destruction like Goofy does. In this essay, I will

It's so weird how the moving timeline is now in the 2010's. Now Marge & Homer had Uber before Maggie was born. Gil was here (and a coke dealer) when Homer was a teen.

I remember dragon as cbs or abc show huh

I’m rooting for Looney Tunes: Back in Action. It’s better than Space Jam at least.

I’m going to comment about it here because I’m not on Twitter to make it known to the hosts but since they were talking about this seasons episodes, there is a crazy ongoing background story that I need to know more about. It starts in the episode where Bart becomes a golf caddy we see a continuous ongoing friendship between Otto and Julio. In this episode they’re getting ice cream together and I can’t remember the specifics but afterwards they’ve shown up at least two more times in background gags either shopping together or hanging out or doing some thing and I need to know what’s going on . that sounds like a really interesting story. I don’t mean to imply that Otto and Julio are a couple (tho I want to see that episode if it turns out they are) I’m just saying we’ve never given any reason to even think that they’re friends and if they are friends the kind of friends who get ice cream and shop together I really need to know what’s going on. That seems like a more fun story to me than giving Sarah Wiggum some sort of weird excuse to be Megan Mullally it felt very odd to me I need to know what’s going on between Otto and Julio, how and when did they start hanging out. Has one else noticed this? I noticed it right away in the golf episode and it keeps showing up it seems like they’re building to a story later this season where we find out that Otto and Julio are either best friends or a couple or siblings or some thing because they’re spending all this time together.

I reluctantly passed on Bill Oakley's Sneaker Sniffer. I really liked that euphoric expression on the creature's face brought on by sniffing shoes, but I couldn't think of a place where I'd put the thing in my house. And I just dropped over a hundred bucks on a giant ninja turtle toy and I do have a marriage to maintain. I am excited to see what else his company comes out with though and maybe there will be one that gets me to bite. I do feel like we're beating a dead horse whenever the subject of Simpsons voice actors sounding old is brought up. They're people, they age, it happens. There definitely is some listener shock when tuning into modern Simpsons after a long hiatus, but I definitely have gotten used to it to a point. I've probably watched more new Simpsons this past year than I have in at least 15 years thanks to COVID. The past year has mostly been pretty decent too (Carolyn Omine's "The Way of the Dog," a Christmas episode that aired last May(!) as the season finale is probably my favorite from the last year), but I definitely did hate that 700th episode. It probably didn't help that I watched "The Otto Show" just the other day and there's an image where the light is on in that supposed lost room above the garage in one shot. It wasn't their best attempt at finding something new in the familiar. It also reminded me that most of the show's milestone episodes aren't very good, as those used to be the only ones (and the annual Treehouse) that I'd make it a point to watch post Season 13 or so.

This may be an impossible task since you're in Berkeley... but there is an Arby's in Fairfield.

Wait, you guys are doing a poll about Live Action Cartoon hybrid and ARNE'T putting Roger Rabbit on it? That's a little weird. It's that just cause it is a whole other beast?

What funny about having 3-4 Christmas episodes in 2 seasons is 2 are Selman run and 2 are Jean run and I feel like there's conflict because 2 of those episodes you can just set in another day. (Summer Christmas at least makes sense as it's set during the Summer) but yeah, I'm tapped out on Christmas episodes. According to Selman though, we are getting another Thanksgiving of Horror so maybe they will cool it on Christmas. Also, it likely happened during or after recording but the show and pretty much the Animation Domination lineup is now 20th Century Animation and all shows report to Disney now, I wonder how that effects things, I know Bento Box is now under FOX and they just approved 2 new shows so are they under Disney or FOX in general? I'm gonna vote for Cool World if only because We Hate Movies did it and would be funny only because of how stupid that film gets.

NGL, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes would be in my 4 TCM Essentials lineup.

I've loved Superman since the Dini cartoon when I was a tween and consumed many versions of media of the character, and the idea that Snyder hates the character or doesn't understand the character is just wild to me. That version of Superman IS my Superman. He wants to do the right thing but has a ton of internal doubt about how or what the right thing is, and the consequences of his actions. He feels like he doesn't belong, and is afraid of rejection, and afraid that when he is accepted it isn't actually acceptance. He spends a significant portion of his career trying to expose systemic injustices only for his boss to tell him no one cares. But in the end he always makes the leap of faith and offers a hand. To me, he is the most relatable Superman has ever been. And fans organizing to get a corporation to release a version of a film that previously would never see the light of day seems like a victory for directors' artistic expression to me, not "babies getting their bottle".

Interestingly enough, Matt Selman is now showrunning more episodes per season than Al Jean. The current production season has 12 Matt Selman showran episodes compared to Al Jean's 10. Still TBD how many he'd be running in production seasons 33 and 34. Matt Selman's episodes are definitely more even than Jean's these days, but it's hard to get excited since Selman's episodes are already getting more hit or miss.

The discussion of new Simpsons episodes was the crankiest I've heard Henry in a while! I've made my peace with the aging Simpsons cast and I think they all handle it well—nobody sounds like post-cancer Jack Klugman. In the past you had interesting discussions about replacement voices for Looney Tunes and Disney characters. I wonder how that would be handled here?
