Knowing you guys do these episodes months in advance I’m wondering if Henry saw that Babish has since did an episode recreating the Isotope dog in all of its glory. If he hasn’t I have added the link below: https://youtu.be/w5K2ZoPVD5E

The funny thing about the brief Simpsons/Lego renaissance of the mid-2010s is that it was surprisingly controversial among some Lego fans who thought the brand was too violent and profane for Lego to have as a theme. As a Lego AND Simpsons fan since I was a kid, it was baffling to find people out there for whom the Simpsons is still this controversial thing they won't let their kids watch, it's like they were still living in 1991. More on the Simpsons and theme parks: Besides the 20-year contract, I've also heard that Disney might try to use the Simpsons rights as a bargaining chip to get Universal's Florida Marvel theme park rights back from them. If that turns out to be true, it'd be a huge shame as the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is a favourite ride of mine.

underrated ep of this season. But you're getting closer to my fave ep of the season!

Hi Bob & Henry I actually wanted to quickly mention a Conker-related thing that might interest you guys. It's on YouTube and it's called Conker's Bad Fur Day Director's Commentary. It's an LP of the game, done by the devs, and this was 8 years ago, so before hearing form devs was such a common thing and it's very chill and not official or fancy. The basically go into a lot of their mindset about how they approached each thing in the game and what they wouldn't do in hindsight.

Just weighing in to say that I definitely remember the mayor of Albuquerque but being cut out in syndication. I had seen it when it first aired and then was always disappointed in syndication because that joke was removed.

Dave lamenting about lego land...it's far worse if you go alone (as I did). Truly a kids only place...couldn't ride any ride without looking out of place. Neat models though

We've had some stinkers lately from Season 12, but this is an episode I definitely enjoy. Maybe the best of Season 12? It's probably between this and "Trilogy of Error" for me. Just a lot of good jokes, solid premise, and a really tight through-line as we just follow Homer on a little adventure from start to finish. It also never fails to make me hungry. The Simpsons house brought me back to Lego. I probably had not purchased a Lego anything since I was a kid, but I had to have that house and it definitely helped that I had room for it. As a Simpsons nerd, it does bug me a little though that Lego omitted the portion of the house that extends over the garage, and the interior is not particularly close to accurate (the first floor is just a living room and kitchen, so no den or dining room), but it still looks pretty nice. I have the Kwik-E-Mart as well and I might actually like it a little more than the house, but both are fun. I've bought other Lego sets since (mainly the big Disney ones and the Ghostbusters firehouse), but I've basically hit my limit. I saw the classic 60's Batmobile set the other day at the store and I wanted it, but I just don't know where it would go so I made the responsible decision to pass on it. Despite my space issues, I am a little salty that Lego never made The Android's Dungeon. Plus we got an Edna figure, but no Skinner or Chalmers. We could have had Steamed Hams in Lego form!

I was an avid syndication-watcher at the time of this show, I've seen this episode A LOT, and I can confirm that Mayor of Albequerque scene was cut. The episode ends on Homer's victory eating with the music.

Ceaser Chavez is mixed these days by many Mexican Americans due to his anti immigration stances. He would refer to Mexican immigrants in derogatory terms.

Thanks for the podcast, guys. I choose to believe the Duckman reference was intentional. ^_^

I honestly really enjoyed revisiting this episode and was surprised how much of it had stuck around in my brain. Hell, I say "hungie" at least once a week and I had forgotten it originated from a *season 12* episode. It's nice when they can still focus on a damn premise (more or less) for the whole episode and not jump to something else entirely in every act - though it also helps that this actually has GOOD JOKES thanks to John Swartzwelder. Also nice to have Dave back on the podcast!

Bob! I had the same thing happen the one and only time I went to Albuquerque! I was telling my co-worker about the Isotopes, and he didn’t believe me until we drove past a highway sign for the Isotopes. I got to be like “SEE?!” and it was wonderful.

I remember the local talk radio station here in NM replaying Homer saying "the Albuquerque Isotopes?!" clip after the episode aired so much that it has engraved itself in my memory.

What's with the Lego hate? They're fun

Nathanial Miller

Yeah, i've never seen that mayor of albuquerque bit lol

Doesn't Fox own Batman? I would think they could use the Joker if they wanted

My grandparents retired to New Mexico so I went there many times in the 80s, each time landing in the Albuquerque airport so I saw it transform from a tiny local stop to a major hub. We did indeed go to an Albuquerque Dukes game at some point, and if I ever find my way back there I would so take in a 'Topes game. Minor league baseball is fun!

Small note to say I doubt there would have been a copyright issue using the Caesar Romero Joker because the '66 Batman show was produced by Fox Television and the next year they do an extended bit with Adam West and Burt Ward reprising their roles (as they would do many times until Wests passing in 2017) in the season 14 episode Large Marge. 60s Batman's distribution rights were bought by Disney during the Fox buyout along with The Simpsons but isn't currently available on Disney+ and as far as I could see, isn't freely available on any service except Amazon where you can pay $1.99 per episode. I hope Disney fixes this soon because in this age of online edgelords romanticising the Joker's sociopathy and actors mailing rats to their coworkers under the guise of 'method acting', I yearn to relive simpler times, when the Joker was a goofy villain who tries to take over Gotham by becoming good at surfing and the actor cared more about the preservation of his mustache than getting the role.

MENDOZABLE

I always saw this episode in reruns and the ending with the mayor of Albuquerque was always cut and I finally saw the actual ending on Mexican television which surprised the hell out of me.

PurpleComet

I don't care for this episode. Outside of "Me so hungy" and Duffman breaking character I find it pretty boring. And Homer's protest doesn't really make sense. The Springfield Isotopes have been a minor footnote the rest of the series and now we're supposed to believe anyone in the town cares if they move? And no disrespect to Stacy Keach, but I found Howard Duff totally forgettable. He's not villainous enough, at most he seems mildly annoyed with Homer.

Shout out to Henry for pronouncing Calgary correctly!
