Sorry but voting for Jim Crow Joe knowing his horrific record in a state where he would win regardless isn’t remotely left. As president, he’s doubled down on Trump’s policies and can’t go a day without saying a racist “gaff”. I fail to see ho this racist old man with rape allegations is better than the fat racist man with rape allegations. It didn’t work on me last election and it’s not going to work for the 2024 election especially with the bipartisan support for Zionism, police, and actively provoking nuclear war with China (bipartisan yellow peril rhetoric is also a dealbreaker)

I wonder if the "strong horse crazy glue" joke was a reference to chief Crazy Horse and the strength of the adhesive

Declan Kennedy

RE the Bender "part of a wife" joke, I always assumed he was making a robot fleshlight (metalight?)

Some thoughtsu/correctionzu -I was originally scheduled to be on this because you guys asked me to, not because this episode is a particular favourite of mine. Actually I forgot everything about this ep except for the Iron Cook segment! Still, I guess I could've been helpful to provide insight such as: -horse sashimi (basashi) is delicious but I understand if others are turned off by the idea; it's definitely more accepted in Japan -yellow bell peppers have a mild sweetness and I enjoy them raw (along with red and orange) -in Japan, it used to be that red/yellow/orange bell peppers were not commonly found in stores, but the Iron Chef opening helped make them more mainstream and stores began stocking them as a result -yes, allez is pronounced "a-lay." -ez is always pronounced -ay in French, like in "chez" and "voulez-vouz" (and don't pronounce the "z" at the end of "vouz" unless the next word starts with a vowel) -If my memory serves me correctly... both the Chef and the challenger are shown a small list of possible items before the competition so that they have some idea of what might come, but the final ingredient choice IS a surprise to them when it's revealed -Iron Chef Italian -- the youngest of the Chefs -- sadly died in 2019 at the age of 49 from a fatal fall in one of his restaurants -in the show's fictional lore, the new Chairman is Chairman Kaga's nephew -Kaga was Game Center CX's first pick to host the show but his agent turned them down

Nice podcast! Spargel is German for asparagus. I've lived in Germany since 2014 and when I first came here, I couldn't find work in games/animation. So, I had to go back to restaurant work. I worked in a really busy kitchen and had to learn German plus all about German food. The year I worked in that kitchen was hell. But, I did come across Spargel season and how popular certain asparagus dishes are in Germany. Asparagus cream soup, Asparagus menus with either white or green, and served with potatoes and fish or beef plus these little pancakes. It's also served with sauce hollandaise or with butter, but the sauce is much better.

Great episode as always dudes! Here's your science joke for the ep, the strong force is what holds the nucleus of atoms together (i.e. so all atoms dont just spontaneously fall apart). So it is a glue that can do like nuclear fusion. (Its very strong glue.)

for me, this one is definitely an ep where the B-plot (Zoidberg and the bottle) outranks the main plot in terms of comedy.

As a young teen watching this when it originally aired I thought the robot slur joke was the funniest, most clever joke ever for some reason. Probably I just felt smart for getting something that wasn’t super overt. Every adult I tried to explain it back to did not find it funny, though, and just stared back at me in confusion. I’m still not sure if that’s because it’s actually not funny, it went over THEIR heads, or I just did a very job explaining it, but I’m glad you gave it a nod here. I’ve been waiting for that validation for 20 years.

Spargle is Wolfgang Puck. His restaurant is Spago and dave hermans voice is a total impression of him.

Only recently did my brother realize that Chairman Kaga was just a role.

There was only one notable German chef on PBS named Friedman Paul Erhardt also known as Chef Tell. Though Chef Tell was very tall, very straightforward, and very mustached. Spargel's accent and coat are more like Wolfgang Puck who was really taking off around the time, but Spargel's demeanor and focus on country cuisine reminds me a lot of PBS staple Jacques Pepin. I would also give some credit to Emerill, while he wasn't the first cajun chef and he had a bumble with a sitcom, he's probably most popular when he made his Emeril Live! show that last for several seasons that made cooking in front of an audience a format for a while. This is a real guilty pleasure episode for myself just because there are so many jokes I love, especially "I'm not drunk, I'm mentally ill"

This episode is the perfect example for how even subpar Futurama in this era is still pretty damn entertaining. Even the comically low stakes B plot has plenty of laughs in it. The entire A plot is all about just subverting expectations with its jokes to the point that the first time I watched it I was just waiting for the joke when Farnsworth announced the secret ingredient was water, "Water and...?!"

I thought mortron salt was just literally a reference to "Morton Salt" with the famous Salt Girl mascot

I think a potential origin of helmut spargel’s name is former German chancellor helmut kohl whose last name means cabbage. Spargel is the German word for asparagus. As mentioned elsewhere, Wolfgang puck seems to be the inspiration.

I had TOTALLY forgotten about Dave Herman's third act Japanese caricature voice and just... WOW. It's disappointing when the show dips into racist crap like this, as it was with Billy West playing Amy's dad and the questionable depiction of the native Martians in "Where the Buggalo Roam," but at least it's mostly contained to the end of the episode here

littleterr0r

As someone who's spent a lot of time in Eugene, Oregon that was definitely my favorite joke of the show.

Justice for Bob’s opinion about Ratatouille, which I share. It was a bad movie then, and it’s a bad movie now.

littleterr0r

You guys mentioning Kif made me realize how much I've missed him so I'm excited to see the next episode.

The strong nuclear force is one of the four fundamental forces (along with gravity, electromagnetism, and the weak nuclear force). Atomic nuclei are made of positively charged protons and neutral neutrons. Since the protons all have the same charge, they would naturally repell each other and blow the atom apart. The strong force is what counteracts this and holds it together.

Bob thinks haggis is just a plate of guts? Lol

Excited to listen to this, incredible to think Emril had his own sitcom, did anyone watch that stuff. Do you think Elzar comes back in the re-boot?

When Gus said he was able to get a dinner reservation when he was a senator, I took that to mean he was a senator in the same alternate timeline where he was able to get a reservation, not in this timeline where he is neither a senator nor able to get a reservation
