Hey Adventurers!

Here's the complete changelog for MapForge 0.2. Grab a coffee, it's a long one.

Export Tab (NEW)

Brand new Export tab for creating high-quality map images

Export formats: PNG, JPEG, WebP

Size options: Full (100%) or Half (50%)

Grid toggle: with grid, without grid, or both

Roof toggle: with roofs, without roofs, or both

Batch export system generates all combinations automatically

Queue system with progress bar

Descriptive file naming (e.g. TavernMap_full_withRoof_withGrid.png)

FilePicker integration for choosing save location

Floor Painting — Performance

GPU-Only rendering, zero CPU to GPU transfers during painting

Latency reduced from 50-150ms to under 16ms (single frame)

Instant preview system with dual layer rendering at 60fps

Cursor preview shows actual texture at cursor before painting

Kalman filter for stroke prediction (smoother strokes)

Geometry batching: all stamps in a single draw call

Object pooling eliminates garbage collection stutters on long strokes

Scissor rectangle optimization: GPU only processes the painted area

Douglas-Peucker stroke simplification

GPU erase mode

GPU shape fill for rectangles and polygons

Batched soft brush rendering (soft brushes now as fast as hard brushes)

Gradient mask caching for soft edges

Floor Painting — Fixes

Round brush now paints continuously when dragging (not just isolated stamps)

Round brush paints circles, not squares (when hardness >= 0.99)

Hardness works correctly in Canvas2D

Natural brush preview now shows correct organic shape

Cursor preview aligned correctly with painted result

Cursor preview at correct scale

Erase mode fixed: erases all layers, not just the active one

Erase mode now has instant visual feedback

Strokes saved more reliably

Shape fill loads textures correctly before filling

Shape fill resolves AssetSystem paths correctly

Shadows & Highlights 2.0

New brush engine with brush dynamics (jitter, scatter, angle, opacity)

New procedural brushes: Organic Soft, Chalk, Marker

Vector stroke engine for mathematically perfect lines

New Edge Shadow Tool: draw a path, shadow fades perpendicular to the line

Live preview of fade zone while drawing

Smooth curves support in Edge Shadow

Configurable direction (left, right, or both sides)

Fade profiles: Linear, Smooth, Exponential, Contact Shadow

Edge Shadow now respects layer height correctly

Double-click no longer adds extra point when finishing

Edge Shadow position fixed (no more wrong offset)

Object Shadows

New offset pad replaces the old joystick sliders

Offset range increased from 250 to 750 pixels

Larger pad (200x200 vs 120x120) for precise positioning

Shadow placement now matches preview when rotating

Create/Edit Shadow dialog with all options

Connected shadows: shadow follows object when moving or rotating

Path Drawing — Performance

GPU mesh reuse: preview no longer recreates mesh on every movement

Vertex data updated in place (no destroy/recreate)

PIXI v7 preview performance improved

Smoothed points caching (avoids redundant Catmull-Rom calculations)

Point indicators managed separately from mesh

Path Editing — UX

Button renamed from "Select" to "Edit" with pencil icon

Interactive help panel appears when selecting a path

Color legend: green = start, orange = end, blue = middle, magenta = curved

Tooltips on control points (type and available actions)

Points grow on hover

More descriptive breadcrumb hints

Lighting Tab

Sidebars automatically expand (420px left, 380px right)

Left sidebar now scrolls when content exceeds viewport

Right-click directly on lights opens context menu

No longer need to enable "Light Icons" overlay first

Roofs Tab

Asset filter removed: access to ALL objects now

Shows assets from both 'roofs' and 'objects' categories

Search System

Recent searches: last 5 searches saved per tool

Recent searches dropdown when focusing empty input

Autocomplete suggestions based on tags

Fuzzy matching for typo tolerance

Match highlighting in suggestions

Asset counts in suggestions

Relevance scoring: results sorted by relevance

Keyboard navigation (arrows, Enter, Tab, Escape)

Ctrl+F / Cmd+F focuses search from anywhere

Clear button (×) in search input

Empty state when search returns no results

Search state persists when switching tabs

Enter executes search after switching tabs

Navigation System

Shift+Scroll: global zoom from any tool

Zoom centered on cursor position

Right-click + drag: pan canvas from any tool

Right-click without drag still works normally

Ctrl+0: fit to view

Ctrl+1: zoom to 100%

Ctrl++ / Ctrl+-: zoom in/out

Unified scroll modifiers per tool

Footer hints updated with correct shortcuts

Right-click no longer switches to Select tool unexpectedly

Keyboard Shortcuts

F1 opens help panel with all shortcuts

Panel organized by category (Navigation, Tools, Editing, etc.)

Responsive two-column layout

Full localization (EN/PT-BR)

Asset System

Asset pack toggle fix: disabled packs can now be re-enabled

Persistent file handle import via showOpenFilePicker()

Large packs (>500MB) use streaming mode

Warning when large packs are imported via drag-drop

General Fixes

Ctrl+0 fit to view fixed (canvas.controls.fit error)

Shift+Scroll zoom no longer moves canvas to wrong position

Footer hints showing correct shortcuts

Scene lighting deprecation warning fix (Foundry v12+)

Temporarily Disabled

Multi-Level System: being rebuilt with native architecture

Prefabs Tab: returning in a future update

How to Install

Since this is an early access release, you'll need to install manually:

Download the ZIP file from the link below

Find your Foundry VTT data folder

On Windows: localappdata/FoundryVTT/Data/modules

On Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/FoundryVTT/Data/modules

On Linux: ~/.local/share/FoundryVTT/Data/modules

Extract the ZIP contents into the modules folder

You should end up with a folder called mapforge inside modules

Restart Foundry VTT (or refresh if it was already running)

Enable MapForge in your world's module settings

If you had a previous version installed, delete the old mapforge folder before extracting the new one.

Found a bug? Something not working right? Please let me know on Discord so I can fix it. Your feedback is what makes MapForge better.

Thanks for the support, seriously. You're making this possible.

Waouh, looking forward to test this during the week-end !

I'm unable to install due to missing dependencies, but none are listed. Am I missing something?

Wand & Widgets

Hey! Thanks for reaching out MapForge needs a few other modules installed to work properly. Make sure you have these three installed and enabled: libWrapper Levels Wall Height You can find all of them in Foundry's built-in module browser (Setup → Add-on Modules → Install Module). Just search for each name and install them. Once those are in place, MapForge should install/load without any issues. Let me know if you run into anything else!

Bart's RPG Stuff

I am actively testing v14 of foundry, so you can poke me if you need opinions once you redo the multi-level architecture.
