In the vibrant and eclectic streets of one of the Bohemian boroughs of New Toronto, Shazza, Luminia, Matthias, Korsa, Aesha, Tahral, Taal’ani, and Gloria meandered through the bustling marketplace, soaking in the unique ambiance. The air was filled with the mingling scents of exotic foods, the chatter of street musicians, and the vibrant colors of handcrafted goods displayed in open-air stalls.
The borough was a stark contrast to the high-tech urban sprawl of the city’s core. Here, the atmosphere was grounded and welcoming, a blend of old-world charm and futuristic flair. The group felt a sense of peace and camaraderie as they explored, their actions on Drahl’tothen Station having earned them a degree of celebrity status.
Passersby recognized them, but they respected their desire for privacy, which was heartwarming. Only a few admirers approached, politely asking for holophotos, which the group obliged with gracious smiles. Truth be told, it was nice to have fans among the populace here, as it made them feel welcome there. The group continued on their little exploratory jaunt, more than happy to enjoy this part of the city.
Across the street, Luminia, Matthias, Tahral, Taal’ani, and Gloria explored a shop filled with vibrant fabrics and handcrafted clothing. Luminia, with her ethereal beauty and sky-bluer skin, drew the attention of onlookers, but she was too engrossed in a flowing gown made of shimmering fabric to notice. Matthias stayed close to his lady, making sure that no one got too curious about Luminia, as some men were eyeing her appreciatively.
Tahral and Taal’ani were standing there, debating about what she would look best in, while she also seeing what would work for him. Tahral kicked up a fuss, saying he didn’t need new threads, but Taal’ani was insistent. Gloria was giggling to herself, as she remembered moments like this with Jonathan all those years ago.
It was a moment of pure joy and nostalgia, one that she had to have for the future. Thinking on the fly, she captured the moment with her new holocam, snapping shots of everyone. She was more than happy she had bought the item back on Drahl’tothen station, as she was a bit of a shutterbug once. Now that she was off Prodosia and among friends, maybe she could be again.
Shazza, Korsa and Aesha had a good chuckle at watching their friends enjoy their time out like this. It had been too long since they could have a moment where no one was shooting at them, or after them for one reason or another. It was a moment of pure peace and one that they were going to soak in as much as they could.
Shazza stopped suddenly, her eyes catching sight of another small shop adorned with runes and markings that seemed oddly familiar. Intrigued, she moved closer, her gaze narrowing as she recognized the script etched into the wooden sign. Of all the places in the galaxy, she had never thought to find any of this here.
“These are Xuul’khani runes,” Shazza murmured, her voice filled with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension. Korsa and Aesha noticed her interest and followed her inside, wondering what had caught their friend’s attention.
Inside, the shop was dimly lit and filled with the soft glow of bioluminescent crystals, casting a warm, otherworldly light on the eclectic array of artifacts and trinkets. Shelves lined with ancient tomes, intricately carved stones, and delicate jewelry crafted from rare metals filled the small space. The air was thick with the scent of incense, adding to the mystical ambiance.
Korsa, with her imposing stature and warrior’s grace, scanned the room, her eyes alert for any sign of danger. Aesha mimicked her teacher’s stance, maintaining a vigilant mindset, but she couldn’t help but be taken in at what she was seeing. Many of the items on display commanded her attention, and she couldn’t help but admire their craftsmanship.
“This place is incredible,” Aesha whispered, her fingers gently tracing the intricate patterns on a nearby amulet. “These artifacts… they tell stories.”
Shazza nodded, her attention fixed on a particularly ornate artifact covered in Xuul’khani runes. “Yes, they do. These runes… they speak of… many things. Life, glory, war… too many things to recount.”
“How do you know that?” Korsa asked, curious about what Shazza was seeing. Before she could get an answer, a young shopkeeper, a human woman with striking features, approached them with a welcoming smile.
“Hello! Can I help you find anything specific today?” she greeted, her voice conveying genuine warmth at the sight of customers in her shop. Before Korsa could voice her curiosity, Shazza stepped forward, her voice carrying the weight of her past.
‘Who are you and what are you doing here?’ she asked in perfect Xuul’khani. The woman’s eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly masked it, her smile faltering only slightly.
“I’m sorry, I don’t understand. Was that gibberish?”
