Tom Ray

thank you, thank you, thank you...........................

C. H. Darkstrider

I aim to keep my most loyal readers happy. Tried to get this one out last night, but life happens.

Cornbread

Another entertaining chapter and I enjoyed it. Who is Charity Smedley? The author cannot be asking the same questions as the readers, that's just wrong.

-- that Tom Ray said it best: ..... thank you, thank you, thank you, .... etc, .... ;-) ttfn

And who is this employer of high-[evel hackers, Charity Smedley, to steal the Darkstrider? -- "Not even a few hours on Terra Nova and already there is skullduggery afoot! People trying to take that which the crew has built, while others have designs on the people themselves! Not to mention the other aspects that are now in play, like Wraith Squad and the hidden Xuul’khani cult!" (from occupied Earth origins?) -- yeah, that about says it all, .... Awesome chapter, thank you, ... -- Terra Nova seems to be a very interesting place, .... ;-) ttfn

Do not encourage him. You know he will come up with something diabolical to keep us reading every chapter.

Another awesome chapter well done … so looking forward to the next instalment!

I very much enjoyed most of it and thank you for it. All the ‘real world’ scenes were great! However, I do have an issue with some of the writing that takes place in what we would call cyberspace. As an example, the program that Jaesa wrote reveals itself and that causes her surprise and trepidation?! How could that be? I’m referring specifically to the line that reads: It looked much bigger than Jaesa had thought it was and she gulped in trepidation. She specified the parameters and created it, and in addition, size is irrelevant in cyberspace in this context since it’s merely another parameter that can be tweaked. It just makes no sense to me.

C. H. Darkstrider

Well, I suppose it all depends on your point of view. Allow me to provide some level of context. While Jaesa is an AI, she is not all knowing and all seeing. Yes, she rules over the digital realm she created, but she does not know of every change that occurs with the various programs unless they are major ones. Especially with programs she has given some level of sentiency to, as they will evolve and change in ways Jaesa is unable to predict. Not to mention that while she is a digital construct, Jaesa is learning to become more human.

Evan

Thank you. This provides context that helps to make it more believable. First, that she can be surprised because she’s limiting herself from knowing everything that’s going on in every aspect of the systems that she’s in, and second, in part by doing this, that she’s giving herself the ability to be more ‘human’ by experiencing surprise and even emotions such as trepidation.

Wraith Squad..hope we get a Yub Yub in there Commander. :P

Additionally, Jaesa is trying to experience the thrill of being in her frolicking nightclub. While she may have written the parameters for the routines, and she knows that the size is within the range of the "possible" within those parameters, it is still on the upper end of the possible. Because she is running her sexual subroutines, she allows herself to "feel" fear and trepidation, being informed by her programming that this is a reasonable response to this situation and necessary to gain the thrill experience she is after (her routines give her images of being split open mixed with images of uninhibited pleasure -- with no certainty of which will occur). The proof is in the pudding, so to speak. While in the club, Jaesa engages in a state of "suspended disbelief," much like humans do when we want to be entertained. Reading this series is an exercise in suspending disbelief (no offense meant to our talented author). When alarms go off, and they are attacked, Jaesa is immediately 100% hunter/seeker killer robot. No suspending disbelief there. She is immediately able to set aside her fantasy and overcome the threat. Imagine an officer's club structured like Jaesa's nightclub. Put the club onto an aircraft carrier and place all of the senior officers inside of the club, fully engaged like Jaesa and her crew (assume this is normal behavior in that military). How would those senior officers respond to such a massive attack? Not as well as Jaesa did, I imagine (there I go, suspending disbelief again, doh!!!).
