The Reservoir Lounge was everything Sarah had hoped for, and more. The intimate glow of candles flickered on the tables, casting warm shadows across the room, while the soft murmur of jazz floated through the air. There was much that both of them appreciated and while Dave wasn’t a jazz fan, he did appreciate the amount of effort that went into making the music.

The band played effortlessly, a smooth rhythm that seemed to pulse through the entire club, wrapping everyone in a blanket of timeless sound. The saxophone crooned, the piano keys danced, and Sarah felt herself melt into the ambiance. She and Dave sat side by side, sipping their drinks as they soaked in the vibe. Sarah’s eyes wandered over the band, a dreamy smile playing on her lips.

“This is perfect,” she whispered to Dave, her voice almost drowned out by the music.

Dave, leaning back in his chair with a relaxed grin, glanced over at her. He smiled at Sarah, echoing her sentiments, happy to see her so full of joy this evening. After a few more songs, some of the other clubgoers began to sway to the rhythm, couples getting up to dance in the open spaces near the stage. Sarah’s eyes lit up at the sight, and before she could second-guess herself, she grabbed Dave’s hand.

“Come on! Let’s dance!” she urged, her excitement contagious. Dave hesitated for a second, giving her a playful look as he fidgeted.

“You sure you’re ready for my moves?” he teased, though the slight awkwardness in his smile gave him away.

“Definitely,” Sarah said with a laugh, pulling him up to the dance floor.

At first, Dave was a bit stiff, his steps clumsy compared to the smoothness of the jazz swirling around them. But Sarah didn’t mind. She swayed effortlessly, encouraging him with a bright smile and twinkling eyes, gently guiding him until he found his rhythm. Slowly but surely, Dave loosened up, his steps becoming more fluid as the music took over.

They weren’t perfect dancers, but they didn’t have to be. The music, the energy of the room, and the joy between them were all that mattered. Sarah was completely caught up in the moment, her heart soaring as they moved together, twirling and laughing, Dave matching her enthusiasm step for step. She felt light, almost starry-eyed, as she looked at him, everything around them fading into a dreamy blur.

“See?” Sarah teased, her voice soft and teasing as she spun him around. “You’ve got moves after all.”

Dave just grinned, his confidence growing as he spun her back, both of them laughing in sync with the smooth rhythms of the band. The night seemed endless as they danced, never quite ready to sit back down. Song after song, they swayed, twirled, and laughed, losing themselves in the music and each other’s company.

By the time the club was closing, and the band had played its final note, Sarah and Dave were among the last to leave. As they stepped back outside into the cool Toronto night, Sarah felt like she was floating, her cheeks aching from smiling so much. Dave, ever the gentleman, held the door for her as they left, walking beside her with that easy, confident stride that had won her over.

“You’ve made this night unforgettable,” she said softly, looking up at him with gratitude and admiration. Dave chuckled, his smile as warm as the evening had been, taking Sarah’s hand in his own while she carried the goodies in her other hand.

“It was my pleasure,” he replied, glancing at her with that familiar twinkle in his eye.

As they strolled down the quiet street, Sarah couldn’t stop smiling. Her heart felt full, and the memory of the night was one she knew she’d hold onto for a long time. The jazz, the dancing, the easy way Dave had been the perfect gentleman—it was everything she hadn’t expected but exactly what she needed.

With every step, Sarah knew this had been the best night she’d had in a long time, and it wasn’t just because of the music. It was because of Dave. His eyes glimmered with warmth and affection as he looked at her, her glowing caramel skin and dark pixie hair catching the light of the street lamps. They had shared a wonderful evening filled with laughter, good music, and cocktails, and as they lingered near the curb, Dave cleared his throat.

“I can call a cab to take you home,” he offered, his voice steady but laced with a touch of hesitation, as if he didn’t want the night to end. He was being polite, doing the gentlemanly thing, but part of him hoped she’d say otherwise. Sarah smiled, her eyes gleaming mischievously under the city lights. With a boldness that caught Dave completely off guard, she leaned in, her voice low but confident.

“How about I take you home instead?”
