Jessica was about to lie back down when she bolted back upright in horror. He looked at the bedside clock on the nightstand next to the queen-size bed and saw the time! It was maybe five minutes from noon! She would be late for her shift at the park!

“Shit!” she cursed as she flew out of bed and scavenged for her discarded clothes. Jessica was flying into them at a pace that almost seemed unreal. Her scramble woke Valeria up, and she yawned as she blinked owlishly against the sunlight. Once she focused, she looked at Jessica, searching around in a frenzy for something.

“Why are you scrambling so much?” Valeria yawned as she sat up in her bed.

“I’m late for my shift, and I need to find my cell! Have you seen it?” Jessica griped as she searched for it.

Valeria saw it out of the corner of her eye, resting next to the alarm clock. She calmly picked it up and wiggled it when Jessica was looking in her direction. Jessica saw the action and darted for it, but Valeria pulled it out of reach for a moment, before letting her lover take it. She stole a kiss from Jessica while taking her phone back, but Jessica didn’t mind.

“We still on for tonight, then?” Valeria asked as she sat there, her nude form on display for Jessica.

“You know it is!” Jessica said with a grin as she slid her shoes on. “What did you have in mind?”

“Oh, just know it will be a fun night, and you’re just going to have to wait until you get back. I see no reason to spoil the surprise I have in store,” she said mischievously.

Huffing in annoyance, Jessica quickly let herself out, but not before kissing Valeria goodbye. She was down the stairwell in a flash and in her car and on her way to work in less than five minutes. Jessica knew she was already late and made a small detour to a Tim Hortons that was on the way. She grabbed three beverages and pastries before jumping back onto her route.

Jessica got there nearly twenty minutes late and rushed into the station to get changed. She saw that Olivia and Gordon were already there, waiting for her by the carts. Gordon fixed her with a fatherly, disapproving look before he spoke.

“Twenty minutes late? You know this isn’t something I let go just that easily, Jessica…” he started before he saw the offerings in her hands. Olivia saw it too, and a small smile played across her face before she asked her question.

“Who’s is who’s?”

Jessica disengaged Gordon’s drink first, an extra-large black coffee with one sugar and a shot of vanilla. He took the lid off and smelled the fresh coffee, his face not so stern now. Jessica then offered him one of the bags, which contained an apple fritter, his favorite. She subsequently handed the Chai latte with two sugars and a fruit explosion muffin to Olivia. She kept the green tea with no sugar and the sour cream glazed donut for herself.

“You’re getting good at this,” Gordon mumbled around his fritter by way of acceptance. The look on his face was a classic ‘I ain’t even mad anymore’ look. Olivia was also happily munching on her muffin while smiling at her friend.

“Forgiven for today?” Jessica mustered in her cutest voice.

Gordon made a show of thinking it over before nodding and adjourning to his office. He knew Jessica was a good ranger, and though she was sometimes late; she made up for it. She also made up for the lost time by the way she hustled to get her job done and not falling behind on her work. Both Olivia and Jessica headed to their respective carts to start with trash duty.
