Even during moments of rest, nothing stops moving...

Safe to say that first contact between the people from below has officially happened as opposed to The unofficial one from before. Asha is already showing some attraction to Ben and that leads to some rather humorous circumstances both with Kerrik and Ilva. And of course we can't forget how she takes whatever opportunity she can to pull Kerrik's chain. Long story short it is a bit too early to see how things will progress but things are already looking promising if the suggestions Selvi gave which are then followed or any indication. And in a more personal note, it is always nice to see potential issues being identified and or addressed before they escalate into something more. God knows we could use more of that in real life. Long story short the people from below find Ben rather reasonable and I think you put it best when you say that both sides did not promise more than they can deliver. And the fact that Ben was willing to put in time and effort to a location he is not going to be spending a lot of time on speaks highly of him. To me though it really seems like Ben is being rewarded both for his efforts enjoying the regulators as well as what he's doing for the location. Because after having a good start to her morning, Samara immediately finds out about the fact that he is alive as well as what he's been doing thanks to his reputation. Obviously there is no way to tell it's him but she immediately knows. There is obviously a bit of Hope in that certainty but I can't say I judge her because we already know she's right. They do have complications in getting there but plans are already being made and best of all we actually have a road to get to him as well as a timeline. Right now I am just hoping that he stays there long enough for that reunion because God knows this has been in the work for the longest time and at some point the weight becomes unbearable and not worth the buildup. Rainer also made it to the place where Samara's group is at and after catching up with Solena it is very clear that things are looking up for him. The fact that he has some basic knowledge of carpentry means that whoever trains him doesn't have to start from scratch which is a big help in his circumstances. So not only does he get the job he gets the girl too. While the first diplomatic meeting was great and Samara and her group knowing about Ben and making plans to get to him was definitely my favorite part I think that the most interesting thing about the chapter for me was the focus on the soldiers. The prisoner has very little to do so he spends as much time as he can listening and he gets quite a bit of good information this way. He is also well aware of the position he is in which already puts him ahead of the scientists in a number of ways something which he lets them know by the examples he gives. And then we cannot forget the last conversation in the chapter about the people who left Toledo. Namely the arguments between Vale and Rourke which do a very good job at conveying their thought process as well as worldview. I have to say that the contrast between soldiers and scientists was a bit of a thing in this chapter even if you probably didn't mean for it to be that way. I don't know if this is the best way to put it but in my understanding it seems like here we have the scientists who are all about working on how to deal and control with things they really shouldn't and there are consequences that comes from the failures as opposed to the soldiers who have to deal with keeping the people safe and dealing with the circumstances as they are. That's basically an oversimplification of what I took from both instances. That and the fact that we may have some new threats to deal with and this was the build-up. Either way I found this chapter to be one of my favorites so far and can't wait to see what you have in store next.
