Good evening, everyone! C.H. Darkstrider here with the latest update! This one is late by well over a month and I’m fairly certain that everyone is looking for some news on the writing front! Rest assured, such news is in this update, along with a few other tidbits I need to get out there! Without any further ado, let’s get into it!

First of all, I am sure that all of you have noted that my writing speed has decreased over the last couple of months. I am aware of the frustration that some people are feeling. I have been trying to keep up with the demand for my story chapters, but as life tends to happen often, many things popped up over the last little while. I won’t say what they are, but just know that since they involved family, they couldn’t be side-stepped or avoided. If I was to try such things, I’d likely be in deep shit with the fam!

So, things had to slow down, but that doesn’t mean that progress wasn’t made. Whenever I could, I got some work done on whatever stories or projects I had the inclination to do at the time. A little here, a little there. While as a whole, it wasn’t enough to complete any of them, progress was made. This month however, is looking to be a bit more open in terms of time.

Yes, the holidays are coming up, but this year, there will be more time off to write and I will be able to catch up and get some more work done. I have ten chapters to complete this month for that to happen and since I have already released one, that is nine left to go! It may seem like it’s insurmountable, I have every intention of getting them all done and released before New Year’s Eve. As they often say in the military, let’s turn and burn!!

Next item on the list is the additional bits I have been working on, such as the artwork for what I write. Like with my writing, I am getting things done, a little bit at a time, whenever I can. Much of which is still in an incomplete state, but a couple of them are close to being fully completed. One of which is a most surprising thing, considering a new update to a program I have purchased! I won’t say what the surprise is, but I will say that folks will be enjoying it before the year is over!

Lastly, I am also aware that people have been wondering why I am still lagging behind in matters of progress as far as my writing goes. Some have even gone on to state that it is taking far longer than other popular writers to achieve enough to take up writing full time. How they got it done in less than five years, while I have been at this for nearly six and still have trouble breaking the barriers needed.

The honest truth is that I face takedowns when it comes to advertising my writings. Even if the text I put is worded carefully, without including links to my pages, I am still hit with chapter rejections unless such advertisements are removed. Of the writing titans who are already successful, I’m fairly certain they didn’t have this obstacle to face when advertising their work. I have seen and read them advertise their specific websites with every chapter posted, and their story chapters are still up.

It is more than unjust and unfair that later writers such as myself are being hit with this garbage. But since I lack the ability to control it, the only thing I can do is just roll with it. I won’t lie and say that it wouldn’t be nice if the playing field was leveled, but no one ever got anything done by bellyaching over such things. The only thing I can do is to just keep soldiering on, as best as I can.

I do hope that this update has helped to clear the air about certain things and helps you all keep the faith that you will all soon be reading the work I fell behind on. I hope that everyone is doing well and that you are all keeping safe and warm during these troubling and turbulent times. May all of the nonsensical wars soon be ended and may we all return to a more peaceful time for everyone. Cheers and Slava Ukraini!!

Full respect for to you for aiming to write 10 chapters and do artwork all in the month of December! I don't know how you manage to keep, what is it? ... 6 story lines and characters separate at such a frenetic pace, and all whilst holding down a full-time job. Tefler should take a leaf out of your book, (excuse the pun) he is only working on 1 storyline and has, a few times now, not managed to complete 1 chapter in a month because "life happens". I pay Tefler $1 per chapter (I would pay much more, but as he started charging for placeholders - 2 ahead of the chapter he has delivered, he has got quite a few peoples backs up and has lost a lot of followers). If you, like him, were to charge per chapter, you would get not $2 per month, but upto $20 per month from me, (assuming I would want to read all your stories) However, to be frank, I am only interested in 1 story (Project Prometheus), so I find myself paying $2 per month regardless of whether you deliver a chapter from the Project Prometheus saga or not. This is a worse deal than i am getting from Teffler. This is where Tefler had the right idea; find 1 great story line that everybody wants to read, and stick with it. If you produced even half as much per month as you intend to and charged $1 per chapter (minimum) you would be getting not just $2 per month from me, as you are now, but $5 per month, and I would happily increase my patreonage to $5 per post, hence $25 per month from me, as would many other Project Prometheus fans. And you would only need to do half the work on a single storyline. This is how Tefler managed to quit his job

Cornbread

I agree with John if you put all your effort into Project Prometheus that by this point next year you would have a huge reader following. Your monthly word count on all your projects is on par with Annabelle and Tefler. Though it is not fair to ask you hold your other projects for a year to achieve this goal. As for those who are not happy with publication, I will only say that C.H has been upfront about what was happening and delivered what he promised.

Brian

Well lets not get hasty now gentlemen. I also first subscribed to C.H. for Prometheus but now that is near the bottom of the list. I would hate to see him drop any stories, I like them all. I would gladly pay per story for all of them. :)

C. H. Darkstrider

Hmm. Well, it is something to consider. I may create a poll for this and decide from there.

Diego

For what is worth, most of the creators I follow tend to focus on a single story, maybe with a second one they update less frequently when they need a change in scenery. Anecdotal evidence from said creators is that most readers only follow a single story, even if the others are right there, unless they're somehow related. Also it makes sense, as some writers do, to structure your writing in book format so every 100k to 200k words you have told a coherent story that can be published as a part of a series of books. Annabelle Hawthorne does this very well. In your case, I'd suggest you work to bring Gaia's champion to a good "end of this part", which would be after they defeat the dark witch. Then focus in Project Prometheus, giving it at least 75% of your writing time and continue the others at a slower pace.

Ben

Don’t beat yourself up. You are putting out great product at a faster pace than many others. I also doubt you’ll ever find consensus with what you should focus on because everyone has different tastes. I personally like Prometheus the best and then actually Wings, but I’m sure others have completely different tastes. I would possibly consider putting anything new on a side burner so you know you can finish a story and still have something new to go to. That’s a common complaint with others with 1 story, that they’re dragging it out because it’s the only thing they have. You could also consider bumping up your lowest tier again. You might lose a few patrons but overall gain in monthly income.

John Gregory

I agree with you that some authors drag out a story line simply because they have nothing else to move onto. For this reason I think it a good idea to sit on a few whilst concentrating on one. And maybe a side story, for when you need a change of scenery. Perhaps plan them to merge at some point and then start another as a sideline. But as Diego pointed out, most readers follow only one story, which would mean that increasing the lowest monthly tier, as you suggested, would be unpopular with most readers. On the otherhand. Increasing your output on only 1, maybe 2 stories, and charging per chapter (based on an average word count per chapter as Tefler does) would benefit C H, as he would have less threads to keep track of, and possibly also need to write less. Whist releasing more chapters of the story. Hence the readers get a better deal, C H would get paid more often, and because the readers get a better deal, possibly be prepared. As I am, to up their patronage.

Pray all is well. By the comments you are missed Respectfully
