Those of you following me long enough know this isn't the first time I floated this question, but now I'm kind of left with little alternative. I want to get away from Amazon and Patreon's censorship and abusive royalties and produce some unique stuff that can experiment a bit more and provide something exclusive to real supporters of mine.

So why SubscribeStar? Well, there are virtually no guidelines or guardrails, smut is embraced, erotic art AND videos are allowed (I can't even post videos here), PLUS I get a bigger percentage of subscription fees. I wouldn't shut down the patreon, but I'd keep the spiciest posts and artwork for SubscribeStar. Gradually, the dream would be to get the majority of you to move to that platform but I know it's a big thing to ask. It would really open things up for me.

In the past I noticed that although I got a decent amount of followers on SubscribeStar when i tried it out last time, engagement was very limited because people aren't in the habit of checking it very often. So that's a concern. But I can also post notices here when an important update happens on SubscribeStar, so it's not a total black hole.

TRANSPARENCY: I make about $800 on Patreon, not a ton but an okay chunk that pays for a little editing and artwork each month. The money isn't as important as having a way to make sure my posts are seen. If I moved to SubscribeStar, my worry is I'd lose the ability to reach my Patreon supporters. The access to you guys is the most important thing. But if you all remained subscribed as Free Access followers, I could at least let you all know when big news or releases occur.

Thoughts? Here's a fairly black and white poll just to test the waters for the time being.

Yes please, as long as all the content gets posted there I'd love to switch.

Mark

I don't know enough to vote really. Ik I'll go where you go. But like the people who switched from YouTube cuz they suck, it didn't go well. Of course, with Reddit and Discord, I doubt it will be that bad even if you do lose a few. I'd hate for you to feel you have to self censor to avoid Patreon censorship.

My only concern is if I can get an app on my phone or tablet for it. I'm limited on how often I can access it on a computer. I want to continue supporting you, just worried I'd lose the easy access.

If you have some way of pulling the email addresses of all of your subscribers out of Patreon for an external mailing list, I would suggest doing do. I know a creator that was able to rebuild because they had done so and then later gotten banned for spicy content on Patreon mainly because they were able to reach out to all their subscribers when they started over and moved their content somewhere else.

I already use subscribestar its just as easy as patreon and if the author is making more money im all for it.

You mentioned getting away from Amazon. Does that mean you're going to stop putting books out on Amazon and Kindle unlimited?

Caerival

I was already subscribed for the extra art while you were doing it. I would just need to re-up.

You had me smut is embraced. I can't be the only one but I use Patreon to give you and handful of other of my favorite authors and artists money more directly since Amazon is greedy shit company that hates small producers of anything. I don't really care what you guys give in return for it as extras so if subscribestar puts more in your wallet I'm all for it

I think for me at least I follow several authors on Subscribestar so I am checking it regularly, also like Patreon I get email notifications when they post. The more authors that jump ship the easier it will be.

I would I just wish subscibestar had a app

I'm fine with it. I'd suggest only having one tier on patreon, and through it announce posts/updates on SubscribeStar. If you DO start a SubscribeStar I would be one of your... stars? I'd be a subscriber, at any rate.

Alex

Have you already made an account for subscriberstar?

Victor Newman

Yes, please, Virgil. Sounds much more open, and as possibly the eldest (86, and single,LOL) here, we definitely need open planning
