It is interesting that the streaming platform is using the later I’m guessing scifi network aired version of episodes. Considering this was originally a showtime series and exactly why they even have such not so network friendly inclusions in the script, otherwise it would make no sense to say it just to bleep or otherwise censor it out. Considering it wasn’t until season 6 that it was actually developed to air on the scifi network. I was also really bummed with the way they recast Teal'c's wife, Drey'auc, as I’ve always been a fan of her original actress Salli Richardson-Whitfield. But she apparently had other series conflicts, then went on to one of my favorite roles of hers in Eureka as Allison. They also seemingly fairly retconned her characterization and general personality. Along with the whole direction of having her remarry, which doesn’t seem to really lineup with the existing continuity in my opinion. As while it is completely understandable in this context, but she seems far more meek and soft spoken here, albeit while making strong decisions for her and her son’s wellbeing. Although it really seems like the kind of thing that would have made more sense before Teal’c initially returned. As she claimed she didn’t know if he was dead, but I feel like that notion had already been assuaged by now/back then, especially while in contact with Bra’tac Also apparently the concept of the silver Jaffa mark was an early and mostly abandoned concept. It was apparently meant to reflect mid to high ranking Jaffa, but it was a concept they didn’t follow through with, partially to do with costume budgets/time. As the silver and gold ones constitute a lot more time or effort than the traditional black tattoos. Which as an interesting production error, there have been instances where they mistakenly put Teal’c’s mark upside down. I think it was primarily in episode 3, but managed to leak into other episodes that had reshoots during that filming block. Also another point of clarification, as they didn’t exactly always word it the best in the episode where Rya’c first received his symbiote or when they were sort of experimenting on Teal’c and junior. But while the larval goa’uld symbiotes absolutely do fully function as their immune system, leaving them with none of their own. It’s also far more complicated than that. As Rya’c had already been sick before ever receiving a larval goa’uld, which then obviously compensated for his already compromised immune system. But given the Jaffa were essentially genetically engineered to both incubate the larval goa’uld, but also to be the most loyal and subservient race, as a result of their absolute dependance and inability of betrayal with their reliance on such larval goa’uld they were engineered to need. So while Rya’c specifically as an adolescent’s primary need for the goa’uld was his compromised immune system, that is not at all the same or only concern when a Jaffa loses their existing symbiote. That’s why they’ve always pretty much definitively stated they would die without it here and in the past, as once implanted, its function goes far beyond just their immune system. That’s why it was such high stakes when Teal’c had been sacrificing and giving up his symbiote in hopes of saving Rya’c and having stated that Teal’c would have died within an hour or so at best without a replacement larval goa’uld. As they literally just outright can’t live without it, even if they did their best impression of Jake Gyllenhaal in bubble boy.
