Hollow

Meant to post this when you originally uploaded this one, but figure I should now before I forget. Also sorry again if it’s a lot to read, totally understandable if you choose to skip. Also just wanted to point this out in case anyone ever thought otherwise, I deliberately try and make sure my notes and context are always framed around the point that you’re at with the series. As while I obviously have far more context around everything for the entire franchise, I definitively do not want to actually spoil or reveal anything you couldn’t reasonably know by now. With the only exception being when something is intended to be revealed, but was explained poorly and it isn’t until later that they better explain it, but the intent was to have already revealed it, they just sometimes have done so poorly. All of that to preface this first question, as it can be further elaborated on, but I won’t more so than necessary. But in regard to how much Sha’re or a goa’uld host in general knows your experiences and if they just suddenly wake up. That’s definitely not the case and despite the goa’uld always making a point of saying nothing of the host survives and that they’re gone, obviously that has been demonstrably not true. For example just as Kendra had stated in the original Thors Hammer episode on Cimmeria, she experienced everything that her demon did, but she was powerless to do anything about it, trapped to just watch. So I’m not sure if it’s universally accepted, but I’ve always been of the belief that most of the time Sha’re is on screen in this episode she is actually Amaunet or at least being heavily influenced by Amaunet feigning or acting at least through some of it. Simply feigning the precise nature of the current dynamic, with some ambiguity sprinkled in. Otherwise it would potentially constitute a rather significant plot hole. Since feigning how the dynamic works as if she only gets memory because of or while the symbiote is sleeping or anything like that simply doesn’t make sense. As it’s pretty much always demonstrated that the host experiences literally everything, with the only reason a host might not have complete a memory or grasp of events, is if they’ve been a host for so long that they’ve suffered so many countless atrocities that it blurs together or they desperately try and block or tune it all out, either in the moment or as a memory. Something that I don’t think is really applicable here. So while this might technically lean more into theory than anything confirmed, she really should have a complete memory of Teal’c and all of the events since being taken as a host and not just incomplete glimpses leaked over while Amaunet is supposedly dormant. It also just kind of strains credulity that Amaunet would just trust Sha’re to exist on her own recognizance. Especially given the pregnancy/baby wasn’t some incidental occurrence or whoopsie, it was very deliberate and planned on, meaning they surely would’ve had the foresight to plan on such events of what could or should happen to Amaunet/Sha’re during the pregnancy and not otherwise left so vulnerable. Which is only further muddied by her blatantly duplicitous nature at the end not revealing sg1 to Apophis In any case I just find a lot of that questionable, given everything else about what or how the host experiences literally everything, with the only reason a host might not have complete a memory or grasp of events, is if they’ve been a host for so long that they’ve suffered so many countless atrocities that it blurs together or they desperately try and block or tune it all out, either in the moment or as a memory. Which even more tragically when O’neill and Daniel were briefly reunited with Skaara, even using the zat to communicate with him briefly, he was absolutely traumatized crying and begging O’neill and Daniel not to hate him for what he’s done, even tho it was obviously Klorel. Point being they experience everything and it’s a very tragic enslaving experience being forced to watch the evil and atrocities carried out by their own body’s hands. Also as I’ve mentioned previously Sam’s experience with the Tok’ra is very much unique and different compared to goa’ulds and how they take their hosts. We’re also so insanely close to some character development that I know you’ve been eager for. Some of which has already begun to unfold here. You also definitely didn’t imagine Thor saying he was going to fix the hammer, I just honestly don’t think it was ever intended to function in such a way, as it’s more so meant to be a prison, that the goa’uld still had to willingly walk through what they know would kill them, but spare their host. With the Goa’uld being capable of just killing their host for spite if they attempt to drag her through kicking and screaming. Meaning that unless the Goa’uld is the one to willingly to make the decision to go through the hammer, I don’t see it going well in any case. But in addition to all that, clearly the government would much rather keep Amaunet as a war prisoner for intelligence, than allow for them to save Sha’re. Especially if anyone like Maybourn has a say in it. Also to be clear as far as Jacob goes, while he definitely is being flippant, it’s not because he’s strictly being judgey, disappointed or otherwise saying what Sam’s done isn’t good enough. I mean he obviously is an air force general, so he does kind of inhabitant a sort of basic archetype, but I don’t think it’s just that never good enough expectations from a father. It’s just because he straight up doesn’t believe the cover story for the obviously extremely classified reality and the type of awards she’s received not making sense for what he’s been told as a cover story, especially given Jack’s inclusion, which his background makes no sense for the supposed work being awarded. So he really is just incredibly suspicious and having a hard time understanding or sussing out the bs cover story for what it is, especially truly knowing what sort of opportunity she was essentially turning down. Despite it legitimately having been her dream ever since she was a child. It’s just hard to rationalize as he has no way of knowing there was an alternate way for her to have already achieved it, especially with such a wack cover story that otherwise seems so unimportant in comparison to actually be part of the first major NASA program since challenger. As objectively speaking the cover story is pretty lame and less significant. Though obviously their relationship still is strained, but that flippant nature and remarks weren’t necessarily anything to do with that or disregard of her work, in fact it’s quite the opposite. He knows just how much she’s capable of and having to rationalize if she’s actually is doing so much more than he’s allowed to know. As otherwise he’d understandably have to be at a bit of a loss, as to how she could turn down NASA. Also as a quick aside on a somewhat related note to everything going on in this episode. But Skaara, along with his and Sha’re’s Father Kasuf are two of the only characters to have their original actors carried over from the original film. With Kasuf’s actor Erick Avari being in so many recognizable roles, notably as you mentioned the original Mummy film. Stargate actually has a ton of massively recognizable scifi alum that regularly appears in some pretty iconic roles. I mean Bra’tac being Tony Amendola is incredible, as he is such an iconic actor that I’ve loved almost every role he’s been in, he actually makes a fantastic villain as well. It feels ironic as the film did have many massive Hollywood actors, some of which do even return to the franchise later on(Like Richard Kind), but I feel like so many of the actors that appear in the series itself just outclass such Hollywood actors. Which I still think it would be really interesting to have you go back and see that original film at some point. As I do find it very interesting how they adapted and had to retcon and evolve many characters. Especially Daniel, since Michael Shanks definitely managed to evolve the character so much, but early on was just doing his best to emulate David Spader’s original portrayal. Obviously it’s very different in general, but I do truly think it is really interesting to see that original starting point, that does still inform many elements of character and lore despite how much got retconned.
