Chapter 606: The Day of Resurrection

Syrus groggily opened his eyes, struggling to sit up.

He was starting to regret downing that huge bottle of cola before bed. Even though every other part of his body was extremely reluctant to leave the warmth of his bed and blankets, his bladder disagreed.

He could only get up unwillingly, yawning as he groped his way out of bed to relieve himself in the bathroom.

Half-asleep and half-awake, he got out of bed, but suddenly noticed something strange. The light was still on under the bed.

Peeking over, he was surprised to find that Jaden, who usually fell asleep at the drop of a hat and snored so loudly all night that nothing could wake him, was actually still awake tonight—a rare occurrence.

Not only awake, but his bed was covered in a messy spread of cards, as if he was seriously studying something.

Noticing Syrus getting up, Jaden finally looked up.

“Sy, going to the bathroom?”

“Yeah, yeah.”

Syrus rubbed his eyes, a bit puzzled.

“Why aren’t you sleeping yet, big bro?”

“Oh, I just had some ideas and wanted to study my deck a bit.”

“Oh, okay.”

Syrus nodded in confusion and left the room.

Slifer Red dorms didn’t have private bathrooms. If you wanted to use the toilet, you had to walk down the hallway to the public bathroom at the end of each floor.

Back when Professor Lyman was still around, Syrus had gotten lost one night and ended up in Lyman’s room by mistake.

Syrus felt strange about it, and the walk woke him up quite a bit.

Studying decks in the middle of the night instead of sleeping—if this were the research maniac Misawa, it wouldn’t be surprising. But Jaden?

It was as if he’d been possessed.

Actually, Syrus could somewhat sense that Jaden had changed a little.

It was hard to spot during the day. He was still the same cheerful optimist, passionate about everything, able to get fired up over anything, especially duels. Just mentioning duels would make him extremely excited, as if nothing else in life mattered as long as he had cards.

But, as someone who lived with him day in and day out, Syrus could feel that things weren’t quite the same as before. Last semester, the Jaden he knew was truly carefree, full of hope for life as long as he could duel. But now, he could vaguely sense that Jaden was just trying hard to make himself seem like he was the same as before—or at least, part of him was.

But in those seemingly carefree, optimistic eyes, there was now occasionally a trace of heaviness that didn’t match the rest of him.

…

“Kuri kuri~”

Winged Kuriboh floated beside him.

“Partner?” Jaden smiled, “I know, I know. Just a little longer, then I’ll go to sleep. Anyway, vacation is almost here, there are no more classes, so staying up late isn’t a big deal.”

He yawned lazily as he spoke.

Joey had left the island again yesterday. Jaden actually felt he got along pretty well with the legendary “Gambling King.” But Joey seemed busy; yesterday, after a phone call, he rushed off for something urgent, saying he’d be back in a couple of days.

Right now, in front of Jaden, at the center of his scattered cards, was “Elemental HERO Terra Firma.” He stared at Gaia, momentarily lost in thought.

“Say, if it were Mr. Koyo, wouldn’t he be much better at this than me?”

Winged Kuriboh drooped its eyes: “Kuri.”

“Haha, just saying.”

Jaden smiled.

“Recently, after following Kira to the Spirit World, I’ve seen more and more. Those oppressed by the Supreme King, people whose living space has been squeezed to almost nothing… and that Supreme King is probably the darkness in my own heart.

Just thinking about it makes me uneasy. Kira was right—dueling isn’t always fun after all. Mr. Koyo entrusted his HERO to me, so I can’t just muddle through and be complacent anymore.”

“Kuri.”

Winged Kuriboh patted his shoulder with its snowy little wings, as if comforting him.

But suddenly, it let out a sharp “Kuri!” and shot up into the air, flapping its wings.

“What?”

Jaden looked at it in confusion.

“Kuri! Kuri kuri!”

Winged Kuriboh urgently flapped its wings, flying toward the window.

“You mean… someone’s coming? For us?” Jaden was stunned. “An enemy?”

By now, Jaden was a battle-hardened veteran, no longer just an ordinary student. He instantly became alert, following Winged Kuriboh out of the dorm and running into the woods behind the building.

He dashed along the forest path, quickly arriving at a warehouse near the academy’s lakeshore.

This was a warehouse by the Duel Academy’s shore, used for unloading goods; people rarely came here.

Jaden, following Winged Kuriboh, hid behind a bush to observe, and saw a figure emerging from the bushes on the other side, heading toward the warehouse.

It was late at night, the forest was dark, and there were no streetlights. Jaden could barely make out the figure, but couldn’t see any details. He just felt that the person’s behavior was suspicious—clearly not up to anything good.

Fired up, Jaden dashed forward without a second thought.

He was surprisingly athletic, often called a natural sports genius by the teachers. His sprinting was incredibly fast; in the blink of an eye, he was behind the person and tackled them to the ground, pinning them down.

The person turned around, startled by the footsteps, but it was too late to dodge. Jaden tackled them, straddling them.

“Who are you? Why are you sneaking into Duel Academy—wait, Chazz?”

Jaden froze mid-punch, awkwardly realizing he was in a rather embarrassing pose on top of Chazz, who was covering his face, looking quite miserable.

“Jaden, what the hell are you doing!?” Chazz glared.

Why the hell are you jumping on me in the middle of the night!?

“Uh…”

Jaden scratched his head and looked at Winged Kuriboh.

“My partner said there was a suspicious person sneaking into the academy…”

Winged Kuriboh: “Kuri!”

It signaled: “Don’t pin this on me! I said someone was sneaking in, but I never said it was this guy.”

It was Jaden himself who saw the shadow and assumed it was an intruder.

“Well… can’t help it. Chazz just looked suspicious, that’s all.”

“It’s Chazz Thunder! And who’s suspicious here? If anything, you’re the suspicious one!”

Chazz roared.

“And can you get off me first? You enjoying this or what?”

“Haha, sorry, sorry.”

Jaden got up and tried to help him, but Chazz slapped his hand away and got up himself, brushing off the dirt.

“Did a spirit guide you here? Same for me,” Chazz said, holding up his “Light and Darkness Dragon” card.

“Light and Darkness called you here? Mine was Winged Kuriboh.”

As soon as Jaden finished speaking, they both sensed a change in the atmosphere. A surge of dark energy swept over them, darkness almost consuming everything—even the stars were blotted out.

“You’re all here. Heh, excellent, excellent.”

A man slowly emerged from the surging darkness, coldly surveying them.

“With the White Feather Spirit and Mart’s feather, it seems today will be my day of resurrection!”

Chapter 607: Hatred Across Three Thousand Years

Neither Jaden nor Chazz had ever seen this man before.

But strangely, even though they’d never met, a primal sense of dread and even an odd sense of familiarity rose in their hearts.

Their instincts screamed danger, as if every cell wanted to run. Just standing there, the man radiated an overwhelming pressure, making their souls cry out to flee.

But Jaden and Chazz were no ordinary students—they quickly suppressed their instincts and stood firm.

Jaden was now experienced, having battled many who wielded dark powers in the Spirit World. Besides honing his dueling skills, he’d greatly improved his perception and understanding of supernatural forces.

So right away, he realized: this guy was strong.

If duelist levels were ranked in tiers, this man would be at the very top of the pyramid.

The body before them belonged to Principal Mackenzie from the American Duel Academy. But the one controlling it was a demon from three thousand years ago—Tragoedia.

At this moment, Tragoedia was barely containing his agitation.

Finally, so close.

Three thousand years. It had been three thousand years—weak, humiliated, sealed away, his rage growing with time and nowhere to vent it.

After such a long wait, the end was finally here.

Every debt has a debtor. The priests from back then were gone, but their spirits and powers were inherited to this day. That was both his key to resurrection and his target for revenge.

Especially that Winged Kuriboh.

Tragoedia stared at the Winged Kuriboh floating beside Jaden, his gaze murderous.

Three thousand years ago, it was this spirit—the culprit who stole his heart and led to his long imprisonment.

Today, he would gut this spirit, retrieve his own heart, break the three-thousand-year seal, and become whole again.

“You two can come at me together.”

Tragoedia sneered, activating his duel disk.

Jaden and Chazz exchanged a glance, both on high alert. They stepped back, raising their duel disks, feeling that this opponent was one of the strongest they’d ever faced.

But before the duel could start, a voice called out from above.

“For an old fossil who’s slept for three thousand years, you’re looking pretty lively. Mind if I join in?”

As the words fell, a shadow dropped from the sky. Kira landed in a half-crouch in front of Jaden and Chazz, blocking Tragoedia.

Tragoedia’s face changed.

“You!?”

Jaden brightened: “Kira?”

“Yeah, it’s me.” Kira faced Tragoedia. “Sorry, you went to so much trouble to set up the whole show for me. But I suddenly remembered I had soup on the stove at home, so I left early. Hope I didn’t ruin your fun?”

Tragoedia gritted his teeth, his expression darkening.

Attacking KaibaCorp, manipulating old enemies of Kaiba—partly because Tragoedia was interested in KaibaCorp, which controlled half the dueling world, and planned to challenge Kaiba and take over his empire after reviving.

But, just as Kira said, the other reason was to keep the Duel King busy and away from the academy tonight.

Yet, unexpectedly, Kira ignored all his clues and suddenly returned, catching him off guard.

“What? Weren’t you looking for a duel?” Kira smiled. “Or can you only pick on kids, too scared to face someone your own level?”

That seemed to hit a sore spot.

Too scared? Me?

Tragoedia suddenly threw his head back and laughed, as if he’d heard the most ridiculous joke in the world.

“Fine, fine.” Tragoedia sneered. “I’ve never feared anyone. Not the Pharaoh, not those hypocritical priests, and certainly not a so-called Duel King today.

Let’s see for ourselves how strong today’s so-called King really is.”

He activated his duel disk.

“Duel!” x2

[Kira, LP 4000]

[Tragoedia, LP 4000]

Jaden: “…”

He wanted to say, “All the key cards keep coming for me, but they always get snatched away…” But he was used to it by now.

Of course, this time Kira wasn’t stealing Jaden’s duel for fun—it was because he knew Jaden didn’t stand a chance right now.

In the manga, even near the finale, Jaden couldn’t beat Tragoedia, and that was with his deck at its peak, combining Koyo’s Elemental HERO cards and his own Masked HEROes.

But even then, he couldn’t beat Atticus while he was being puppeteered by Tragoedia, let alone Tragoedia himself.

And right now, this was only the end of Jaden’s first year—still early in his growth. Even though he was progressing faster than in the original, he didn’t have Neos, Masked HEROes, Supreme King powers, or Yubel’s backing—none of his late-game cheat codes had arrived. There was no way he could beat Tragoedia.

If Tragoedia defeated Jaden and took back his heart, he’d only grow stronger—and that would be a huge problem.

“I’ll go first. Draw.”

Tragoedia took the first move.

But on his first turn, he didn’t summon anything—he just waved his hand.

“I set two cards and end my turn.”

Jaden and Chazz exchanged glances, both puzzled.

No monsters, just set cards?

Why did it feel like watching one of Kira’s duels…

Kira wasn’t surprised. Only traps on the first turn—just like in the manga when Tragoedia dueled.

But if Tragoedia really just used the same setup as the manga, he’d already be dead.

“My turn. Draw.”

Kira showed a card from his hand.

“I activate the Continuous Spell ‘Triangle Force’.” Kira said, “When this card is activated, I can select two more ‘Triangle Force’ from my deck to activate.” (Anime card)

Suddenly, his back row filled with three Continuous Spells.

They had no other effect but to bring out two more copies from the deck. On the surface, it seemed pointless, but there was clearly a special use.

“I send the three ‘Triangle Force’ spells to the Graveyard.”

Kira slowly held up a card.

“Appear from the chaos of thunder and lightning—

—Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder!!!”

Chapter 608: Sacred Beast VS Tragoedia

The moment Kira placed the monster card on the duel disk, the pitch-black night sky seemed to flicker.

The rolling clouds were as if stirred by an invisible hand, brewing an unprecedented storm. Thunder rumbled, at first like the distant echo of ancient war drums, then quickly gathering into an irresistible force, booming across the land.

It was as if chaos and order interwove, splitting the sky with a dazzling silver crack. From within, something descended—not ordinary lightning, but a physical embodiment of pure thunder.

A golden body formed from lightning itself, armored like skeletal remains over a massive demon. Its eyes burned like twin thunder-fires, surrounded by countless crackling sparks, making sharp, sizzling sounds.

One of the Three Sacred Beasts—Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder—was summoned!!!

[Hamon, ATK 4000]

“The Sacred Beast Hamon!?”

Even Tragoedia couldn’t help but twitch.

“You… you actually summoned a Sacred Beast on your first turn!?”

Jaden and Chazz stared up at the mighty monster, feeling its overwhelming pressure.

“So this is a Sacred Beast…” Jaden murmured.

“What a presence… No wonder so many people want these cards,” Chazz was dazed.

Truly a terrifying monster beyond ordinary understanding.

The Triangle Force spell Kira just used had no other effect but to bring out more copies, seemingly just taking up spell/trap zones. But if used for Hamon’s summoning cost, it allowed for a one-card direct summon.

This was the same card Yubel used in the anime to summon Hamon, a perfect match.

“Battle Phase, then.”

Kira smiled.

“Alright, let’s see if your back row can really stop a Sacred Beast’s attack.

Go, Hamon—Direct Attack!

Blitz of Despair!”

Hamon spread its wings.

As if guided by the heavens, the earth trembled with thunder. Lightning shot from Hamon’s eyes, its killing intent forming a solid bolt that pierced the clouds.

The clouds surged, gathering into a massive storm vortex! In its center, lightning raged like an angry dragon, each collision sparking blinding light and deafening thunder, as if shaking the heavens!

“Activate Trap!”

Naturally, Tragoedia had defenses.

“Trap Card ‘Blazing Mirror Force’! When your opponent declares an attack, destroy all your opponent’s Attack Position monsters and inflict half their combined original ATK as damage to yourself.

Then, inflict the same amount of damage to your opponent!”

A shield of fire formed before him, ready to explode. The most aggressive shield—meant to burn both sides.

By this effect, Hamon would self-destruct and both sides would take 2000 damage (half Hamon’s ATK).

Of course, that wasn’t enough.

“Muda,” Kira said calmly. “Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder, is unaffected by Trap Cards.”

The Three Sacred Beasts are immune to Trap effects and only accept Spell effects activated in the current turn.

The Sacred Beasts had only appeared once in the real world so far, when Kira fought Kagemaru. Tragoedia had never seen them and didn’t know about their immunity, so he was shocked.

Sacred Beasts… Do they really have the same immunity as the Gods!?

Actually, their immunity is weaker than the Egyptian Gods, but outsiders didn’t know.

“Nice!” Chazz cheered, “If traps don’t work, this attack is enough to finish him off!”

He was amazed by the Sacred Beast’s power. With just one, they could so easily defeat such an opponent…

But, of course, it wouldn’t be so simple.

“Quick-Play Spell ‘Emergency Provisions’!” Tragoedia said coldly. “Send Spells/Traps from your field to the Graveyard and gain 1000 LP for each.

I send the activated ‘Blazing Mirror Force’ to the Graveyard to gain 1000 LP!”

Hamon’s thunder struck down.

The impact of the Shadow Game, mixed with Hamon’s divine power, made Principal Mackenzie’s body shudder, black mist blasting from within, briefly forming a twisted face that let out a silent scream before being sucked back in.

[Tragoedia, LP 4000 → 5000 → 1000]

“Blocked it, huh.” Kira nodded, “Then I set a card and end my turn.”

Tragoedia’s face was dark, black smoke rising from his body.

“Starting off with a Sacred Beast… I underestimated you.”

He stood up, icy cold.

“But that won’t happen again!

My turn, draw!”

He immediately played the card he drew.

“Spell Card ‘Graceful Charity.’ Draw three, discard two.”

He drew two, then discarded two. One card glowed gold as it appeared on the field.

“Spell Card ‘Card of Compensation’—when sent to the Graveyard, draw two cards.”

Drawing two more, he selected another card from his hand.

“I Special Summon this one—

 Endless Decay!”

On Tragoedia’s field appeared a terrifying mummy wrapped in white bandages, fists unusually large like sledgehammers.

[Endless Decay, ATK ?]

“Special Summon?” Chazz muttered.

“When my LP is below 1000, I can Special Summon Endless Decay from my hand. Its ATK becomes 100 less than my opponent’s LP.”

This was a monster Tragoedia used in the manga. When made into a real card, its effect was adjusted for the actual card game.

The real card's effect: When your LP is below 2000, you can Special Summon it; its ATK becomes half your opponent’s LP.

Since real-life duels have 8000 LP, the original effect would be overpowered.

[Endless Decay, ATK 3900]

“So easily summoning a monster with such high ATK…” Chazz muttered.

Jaden: “But it’s still weaker than the Sacred Beast.”

Tragoedia just snorted.

“Is it really? Good—this turn, I’ll take down your Sacred Beast!”

Chapter 609: The Third Sacred Beast

“This turn, I’ll defeat the Sacred Beast!”

Tragoedia drew a card from his hand.

“First, this card.

Continuous Spell — ‘Ebon Sun’!”

A spell card appeared in his back row. A surge of dark energy gathered, forming a sun-like shape above him, but it burned with hellish black flames.

“As long as Ebon Sun is on the field, whenever one of my monsters is destroyed, I recover life points equal to that monster’s attack.”

Tragoedia spoke coldly, then played another card with a sweeping motion.

“Quick-Play Spell — ‘Gravity Lash’!

Choose a face-up monster on the field. That monster’s attack decreases by its defense until the end of the turn!”

He pointed to the huge monster on Kira’s field.

“Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder’s attack decreases by its own defense!”

It was as if a thousand-fold gravity pressed upon Hamon. An invisible mountain weighed down his back; Hamon’s feet cracked the ground, almost unable to stand.

“Hamon’s attack and defense are both 4000,” Kira said calmly.

【Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder, ATK 4000 → ATK 0】

“As expected, spells still work on Sacred Beasts,” Tragoedia snorted.

He didn’t understand the Sacred Beasts, but he knew a bit about the Divine Beasts. Even gods could be affected by spells for one turn.

His deduction was correct, but Sacred Beasts are actually immune to spells from previous turns, which is different from the Divine Beasts.

“Battle! Endless Decay, destroy the Sacred Beast!”

The mummy lunged forward, its bandaged fists about to strike. But before it could swing, a wave of gravity pushed back, forcing it to its knees, unable to move.

“What?” Tragoedia was shocked.

“Continuous Trap — ‘Gravity Bind’,” Kira indicated the face-up card, “All monsters of Level 4 or higher cannot attack.

Endless Decay is Level 5, so its attack is sealed.”

Tragoedia’s pupils shrank.

Gravity Bind, Level 4 or higher monsters...

Right. Sacred Beasts are Level 4+, but immune to traps, so this card forms a one-sided attack lock.

Thinking of this, his expression darkened further.

As expected of the tactics this guy would think of.

Even after suppressing the Sacred Beast’s power, he could not attack. Tragoedia was frustrated, letting out a snort.

“Then I activate the Spell Card ‘Treasures of the Dead’,” Tragoedia said. “For each Spell or Trap in my graveyard, I gain 500 LP.” (Manga Card)

A few cards from his graveyard appeared above his field.

“I have five Spells and Traps in my graveyard, so I recover 2500 LP.”

【Tragoedia, LP 1000 → LP 3500】

“I set two cards and end my turn.”

“Another two sets in the back row...” Chazz couldn’t help but comment.

And in the first turn, he also just set two back row cards and ended.

Jaden understood what he meant: “Yeah, this guy might actually be the same type of duelist as Kira.”

“End Phase, the Sacred Beast’s power returns to normal,” Kira said.

Gravity Lash only lasted one turn. The gravity faded, Hamon looked up and let out a thunderous roar, lightning gathering around him, crackling across his skeletal frame.

He’s back in action.

“My turn, draw.”

Kira glanced at the card he drew.

“Spell Card: ‘Terraforming’. Add a Field Spell from deck to hand.

I add this card—”

He pulled out the automatically searched card from his deck.

“Field Spell ‘Fallen Paradise’ to my hand.”

He placed it in the duel disk’s extra field slot.

“Field Spell, Fallen Paradise, activate.”

The scenery changed to a dark wasteland. Lord of Striking Thunder stood tall, letting out a roar, its presence even more formidable.

“Fallen Paradise is the exclusive field for Sacred Beasts,” Kira said. “If you control a Sacred Beast, once per turn you can draw two cards from your deck.”

A powerful field effect, and the printed card is even stronger: not only can you draw two each turn, but your three Sacred Beasts can’t be targeted or destroyed by your opponent’s effects.

Many people long believed the anime effect was to search any two cards from the deck, based on the original line, “Once per turn, add two cards from the deck to your hand.”

But later, we never saw Kagemaru actually search; each time it looked like he was just drawing cards. So it’s likely just an inconsistent description in the anime, and it really means “draw two cards”.

Similarly, when Misawa summoned “Mathematician” in the anime, he said, “When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the graveyard, add one card from your deck to your hand.”

But when Mathematician was destroyed, Misawa simply drew a card and shouted “Draw!” So Fallen Paradise’s case is probably similar: “add two cards” means draw.

Besides, if Kagemaru really could search any two cards each turn, it wouldn’t make sense that he still lost to Jaden. Even the Philosopher’s Stone can only search three, and he could search two every turn—if he fetched a few Typhoons, Jaden would’ve lost instantly. It doesn’t fit with how the duel played out.

“With Lord of Striking Thunder on my field, I draw two cards.”

Kira drew two cards.

“Then I Normal Summon Phantom Skyblaster.”

【Phantom Skyblaster, ATK 1100】

Another low-level monster used by Yubel in the anime.

“Phantom Skyblaster’s effect: when this card is summoned, you can Special Summon ‘Brigadier Token’ equal to the number of monsters you control.”

“The number of monsters on the field.”

Tragoedia frowned, looking at Hamon and Phantom Skyblaster on Kira’s field.

“You have two monsters.”

“Correct, so I Special Summon two Brigadier Token.”

【Gunslinger Token, DEF 0】x2

“Three monsters summoned at once!” Jaden praised.

Tragoedia sneered, “Hmph, no matter how many weaklings you summon—”

But before he could finish, Kira smiled faintly.

“Then, I tribute the two Brigadier Token and Phantom Skyblaster!”

Tragoedia: “!”

A monster that requires three tributes?

Even Level 6 and up monsters only need two tributes; even Level 10 or 12 by the rules. Unless, like the gods, the card specifically says “requires three tributes to be summoned”.

“This card cannot be Normal Summoned—only by tributing three monsters can it be Special Summoned.”

Kira raised the card high.

“I now summon the Third Sacred Beast—

—Raviel, Lord of Phantasms!!!”

Chapter 610: The Whole Academy Watches

The night sky suddenly darkened again, and the stars trembled. The sky split with a deep, dazzling rift, like a cosmic gate opening. An indescribable force surged out.

The gentle night breeze turned into a raging howl, carrying world-ending power. The chaotic demon lord tore through space, arriving in darkness. Its massive blue body seemed surrounded by warped, wild energy. Each step shook the ground.

Raviel, Lord of Phantasms, descends!

 【Raviel, ATK 4000】

“So fast, another Sacred Beast already...” Tragoedia looked at Kira as if he wanted to kill him. “Fujiki Kira, you really are someone who can’t be allowed to survive...”

“Battle,” Kira commanded the Sacred Beast. “First, Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder, attack ‘Endless Decay’!

Paradise Lightning!”

Hamon summoned thunder again. With the Sacred Beast’s roar, it descended like divine judgment, utterly destroying the monstrous mummy.

【Tragoedia, LP 3500→ LP 3400】

“Hamon’s effect: when this card destroys a monster by battle, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.”

Kira waved his hand again.

“Hell’s Redemption!”

Hamon roared again, shockwaves sweeping toward Tragoedia. Principal Mackenzie staggered back two steps, his coat fluttering.

【Tragoedia, LP 3400→ LP 2400】

“But the effect of ‘Ebon Sun’ also activates, don’t forget!” Tragoedia said darkly.

“Ebon Sun: when my monster is destroyed, I recover LP equal to its attack. Endless Decay had 3900 ATK, so I recover that much!”

【Tragoedia, LP 2400→ LP 6300】

“The more you hit, the more LP he gains!” Jaden frowned.

“What a troublesome guy,” Chazz muttered, quietly wondering if he could win against this opponent.

“And another set card is activated.” Tragoedia said, “Trap Card — ‘Descendants of the Dead’. When a Level 5 or higher monster is destroyed by battle, Special Summon two Level 3 or lower monsters from the deck.” (Manga Card)

He raised his duel disk, and two beams shot from his deck, forming two dragon-shaped monsters.

“Special Summon two ‘Twin-Headed Behemoth’!”

【Twin-Headed Behemoth, DEF 1200】x2

“A monster with a self-reviving last will effect,” Kira understood.

Twin-Headed Behemoth’s effect: when sent to the graveyard, at the end of the turn, it can Special Summon itself. This triggers whether by battle or effect, and its “end phase revival” makes it hard for the opponent to remove it during Main Phase 2.

Early last-will monsters rarely had this advantage, making it a reliable tribute resource next turn.

“So attacking with Raviel would just give you 1500 LP for free. I’ll pass.” Kira shrugged, “However, when you summon monsters, Raviel’s effect activates.”

Tragoedia narrowed his eyes: “Raviel’s effect?”

“When the opponent summons monsters, I Special Summon the same number of ‘Phantasm Token’.”

A blue light flashed from Raviel, splitting into two beams that became demon-like figures crouching on either side.

【Phantasm Token, DEF 1000】x2

“Phantasm Token can’t declare attacks, but can be used for effects or as tribute.”

Kira waved his hand.

“Finally, I set a card and end my turn.”

Tragoedia glared at Raviel.

“I see. You can quickly pile up tokens and increase monster count, with almost no restrictions. Rapid resource gain — this is Raviel’s ability...”

But he could sense there was more. Both Hamon and Raviel surely had hidden powers.

Tragoedia was once arrogant, never bowing to anyone, not even when sealed in a stone slab. But now, against this modern duelist, he felt the greatest pressure of his life.

Meanwhile, Jaden and Chazz were absorbed in the duel, when a voice came from behind: “Wow, so these are the Sacred Beasts?”

They turned to see their classmate Misawa from Yellow Dorm, staring at the two Sacred Beasts on Kira’s field in awe.

“So the rumors are true. Kira really did—”

“Misawa? When did you get here?” Jaden asked in surprise.

“I’ve been here a while.” Misawa crossed his arms, “It’s not every day you see the Duel King use the Sacred Beasts himself. As a duelist, how could I miss this?”

“No, I mean—how did you even know—?”

Misawa sighed: “When the Sacred Beasts appeared, the whole island could hear the thunder. I could see the giant figure from my dorm window — you’d have to be blind to miss it.”

“Oh, that makes sense,” Jaden nodded.

Chazz thought of something: “Wait, if you noticed, then doesn’t that mean—”

They looked around and finally realized: at some point, the area had filled with people — students and teachers, all pointing and watching.

Unknowingly, what started as a fateful duel had become a kind of public demonstration, half the academy awakened in the middle of the night just to watch.

Tragoedia’s face darkened further.

Damn that Duel King. He’d planned a perfect stealth mission — sneak in, defeat the spirit, steal back the heart, and slip away.

Now, instead of stealth, he was surrounded like a circus act, practically on live broadcast.

“Heh, fine. If that’s what you want, then I’ll show this whole academy — let all modern duelists see—”

Tragoedia declared:

“How their king, and his Sacred Beasts, are mercilessly crushed by me!”

Chapter 611: The Sun

There was no fear in the Little Lobster’s dictionary. He quickly pulled himself together, determined to show these arrogant mortals his strength, and let them witness their king’s defeat and experience true despair.

“My turn, draw!” Tragoedia said, “Spell Card: ‘Spell Book from the Pot’, both players draw three cards from their decks.”

“Next, activate the Spell Card ‘Remove Trap’. Destroy one Trap Card on the field. I’ll deal with that troublesome trap first.”

He pointed to Kira’s set trap card.

“Continuous Trap — ‘Gravity Bind’!”

The trap card was struck by a golden beam and shattered. The oppressive gravity disappeared, and the attack lock was lifted.

Tragoedia felt a slight relief.

Gravity Bind — it said neither side could attack, but the opponent’s Sacred Beasts attacked freely. Only he was really restricted.

He had to clear this card before continuing his assault.

“Next, activate Continuous Spell ‘Precious Cards from Beyond’,” Tragoedia said. “When you successfully Tribute Summon with two or more monsters, draw two cards from your deck.”

Kira glanced at Tragoedia’s two Twin-Headed Behemoth and understood: “It’s coming, isn’t it?”

With two tributes ready and the summoning spell, it was clear what was about to appear.

Combining with Tragoedia’s signature card from the manga, now the time had come...

“Correct.”

Tragoedia raised his card and shouted,

“I tribute my two ‘Twin-Headed Behemoth’ to Tribute Summon!

Final chapter of the Planet Series—

 —The Supremacy Sun, summon!!!”

A golden light illuminated the sky, bright enough to pierce everything between heaven and earth. The deep night was driven away, the land covered in an eerie brilliance, as if a radiant miracle was descending.

It was the embodiment of the sun, like the star of the solar system manifesting as a humanoid being. Clad in heavy armor, its face was expressionless, yet divine. Its eyes were like two dazzling stars, seeing through all things.

But the brilliant golden light only made Principal Mackenzie’s face look even darker in contrast, the backlight making him appear even more sinister — as if only the ultimate light could highlight the ultimate darkness.

The Supremacy Sun, summoned!

 【The Supremacy Sun, ATK 3000】

“The core of the Planet Series, the only Star Card...”

Jaden’s heart burned. He even felt as if his Elemental HERO Terra Firma in his own deck was itching to move.

Alexis, who had appeared at some point, said: “You can sense, this monster hides an extraordinary power.”

Jaden said nothing.

But after being with Kira for so long, he understood that a Duel Monster’s power wasn’t just in ATK, effects, or any stats you could see on the card.

Now he knew: a monster’s strength sometimes exists on a metaphysical level, within the monster itself. Some cards, just by owning them, grant a duelist great power. Summoning them in a duel, even more so.

For example, The D, once possessed by the Light of Destruction in GX, was such a card. The culprit who stole it from Aster’s father became a champion, never seen using it in public duels, showing that just holding the card could raise an average duelist to the top.

Now, The Supremacy Sun was such a card.

And the one wielding the Sun was no ordinary duelist, but a terrifying dark overlord.

Of course, comparatively, today’s Kira was not to be underestimated. And in the face of the Sun, the three Sacred Beasts were just as formidable.

“Of course, because of The Supremacy Sun’s summon, Raviel’s effect also activates,” Kira said. “I summon another Phantasm Token.”

【Phantasm Token, DEF 0】

“Precious Cards from Beyond’s effect: since I used two or more monsters for the summon, I draw two cards.”

Tragoedia drew two cards.

He immediately played another card.

“Continuous Spell — ‘Card of Safe Return’!”

Kira raised an eyebrow.

Wow, another incredible card.

This was the card Marik used against Yugi with Slifer the Sky Dragon. In the anime, its effect was: every time a monster is revived from the graveyard, draw three cards.

The printed card limits it to only one card per revival, and it’s optional instead of mandatory. Marik lost because both this card and Infernal Dragon’s effect were mandatory, which let Yugi loop and deck him out.

“Card of Safe Return: when a monster is revived, I can draw a card,” Tragoedia said.

Draw one... so that’s the printed effect.

Kira understood. Many cards from DM to GX had their effects changed between anime and print, often due to different companies or designers.

Tragoedia’s Card of Safe Return was not the same version Marik used, but that’s not surprising, since Marik’s cards were mostly printed by their own fake-card factory.

“Next, activate the Spell Card ‘Dark Hole’!”

Tragoedia shouted.

“Destroy all monsters on the field!”

A destructive celestial body opened in the sky, Dark Hole a starry maw threatening to swallow everything!

“Spell should work on Sacred Beasts,” Tragoedia said. “All your Sacred Beasts are going down in one blow!”

Indeed, Sacred Beasts, unlike Divine Beasts in the anime, have no innate destruction immunity, so spells this turn can destroy them.

“I activate my set card: Quick-Play Spell ‘Forbidden Lance’,” Kira said. “One monster on the field loses 800 ATK until the end of the turn, but is unaffected by other Spells or Traps this turn.”

“Heh, true. Even Sacred Beasts can be protected by this spell’s effect this turn,” Tragoedia said. “But you can only protect one.”

“I know,” Kira replied. “I reduce Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder’s ATK by 800 so he’s protected from other effects this turn.”
