Special episodes that are not important to get the main story but help you understand characters more (eg. their past) or give little forshadowings. Before starting season 2 you should watch "No regrets" Part 1&2 and Ilses Notebook. The OVAs "Distress" and "A sudden visitor" are more like funny filler episodes, you can skip them if you want.

OVAs are part of the anime that never got aired but released directly in CD/DVD/Blu-ray versions. They mostly contain stuff not as necessary for the main story to progress but maybe some character's backstory(as in case of AoT) or even prequel or side stories. You can skip them but they add another layer to some characters in AoT

People were trolling, it was possible to release 3 episodes today and then change to 1 episode per day. Now it lost 2 episodes that it was going to release and it became 30 monthly episodes, 3 x 15. 45 episodes in the previous format.
