I believe in the manga, it was all Gaoshun's doing that Mao Mao's mushrooms were taken away (Jinshi had nothing to do with it). His fatherly side towards her was really showing, LOL. (Or at least, that's how I read it.) Xiao Mao means "Little Cat" (essentially a kitten), btw. Def meant to be more endearing, though the direct translation sounds kinda creepy coming from an older man (whoops).
