Okay, here's that comic update (many of you had a preview of the top portion). Pardon the excessive size. I felt it best from a storytelling standpoint to treat this as one piece. I do apologize if it that poses a technical problem, though, if you're trying to view this on a mobile device. It's here on the web site too, though, and I will shortly put up a mobile-friendly version at Webtoon.

-------------------------------A note about the photo slipping through the floor:In homes built in  earlier periods, floorboards and joists would be the only thing dividing  your living space and cellar, whereas modern houses are typically built with subfloors. Usually, even in older homes, the floorboards would be jointed together edgewise (shiplapping or tongue and groove) to minimize the formation of gaps. Some earlier styles of flooring simply involved  floating boards flush against each other and nailing them down, though.  After some wear and tear and foundation settling, one can end up with some unwanted openings into the underworld.

The hard life wears you down. Victor's life has been harder than most, I think.

Brittany Coleman

Poor Viktor. :( The art is truly amazing Tracy! You can see all the pain Viktor is experiencing...I wonder how he'll react when he finds out Ivy just left Elsa's home...

Terri Mouse

This page is simply AMAZING. And to think, with all that story, the only word actually SAID was "... Elsa." on the last panel by Victor.

Debra Delorme

My word, this is gorgeous! So much emotion - makes me just want to give him a hug.

LaughingWolf

So much pain for an old man to bear.

Ava

Gorgeous work! Once again, it's in carefully crafted scenes like this that I think Tracy's composition and lighting really get the spotlight (rephrase, they always do!), as there is a finesse to storytelling without any dialogue, so I am drawn to focus more attentively on these aspects of the comic in scenes like these. Also, I think the last time we saw Viktor, the tones were still heavily sepia, so it's wonderful to see his dusty red fur and faded blue pyjamas contrast the glimpses of his piercing eyes (highly intensified glare beam, wasn't it, Rocky?). Beautifully done as always, thank you for all the hard work you put into your art - Lackadaisy updates are always the gem of the month :-)

Nancie

Those are Franklin and Washington on the stamps, right? Is this the first time you've catified a historical figure?

Nancie

And I'm guessing Mrs Bapka put the phone receiver in her purse. (Yes, I'm ignoring the sadness for minutia. It's my specialty.)

Doscher

Exhibit A for the Miyazaki comparisons. Interactions between characters and environments with weight, pathos, and intimacy. Exquisite details are revealed without exposition.

Christina Gibson

Write to her Victor!!!! Even if you just say "I love you" and nothing else!!!

Pau

This is wonderful!

Pau

I love the horse on the bottle! XD

Holden

My heart....it hurts

Tracy Butler

I've done the same sort of thing for dollar bills appearing in the context of the comic and such, but not to any detailed degree. And yeah, Mrs. Bapka put the receiver in the bag back in Volume 2. =P

;-; ..and now I can't stop crying. Beautiful work, Tracy.. ;; but goddamn you hit hard.

Aaaaa I couldn't stop looking at this all afternoon and fretting up a storm. For half a tic I went so nuts as to wonder if he's even intentionally poisoning himself, but then common sense flagged me down to maybe first try looking up the dang Laudanum in the first place. Aaaaand looking up more info on it just made the depictions of Viktor's pain that much worse.. hooraaay. ;-; So Laudanum's not only noted to be addictive like Tracy mentioned, but also apparently extremely easy and even common to overdose on-- such made all the more likely to occur if its a substance your body isn't regularly familiarized with. Meaning as little as say oh a TEASPOON could kill you!! --WHICH IS WHY it's meant to be measured in DROPS, VIKTOR. (ノಥ△ಥ)ノ彡┻━┻ Granted he's probably no stranger to opiates given his long looong history of service above and underground, it's STILL an incredibly dangerous substance to play fast and loose with.. Although... MAYBE Viktor is mildly aware. Maybe. But then assuming he IS... iiiit would go that much further to show how much pain he's really in. Great. nopethis is fine ¯\_༼ ಥ‿ಥ ༽_/¯ Don'tmindmeI'll just be over here worrying myself into a coma, thanks.

Is that a military helmet in the chest?

2026-09-08 00:00 Is he killing himself? Like drinking poison?

Tracy Butler

No. Any kind of potentially dangerous medicine bottle would have a poison tag or a skull and crossbones on it as a warning back in the day, before safety caps and Surgeon General warnings. He's not poisoning himself with poison, but perhaps being a bit liberal with the dosage.

Stephanie Conlon

Thank you for responding and clearing that up!👍
