Patreon Changes (Patreon)
Content
Starting this month, Patreon is looking to help creators receive more of their funds than they normally do. On average, a creator gets 80-88% of their pledges after fees. Patreon's goal is to make sure creators take about 95% of that instead. How are they going to compensate?
It seems their goal is to have a small fee of 2.9% + 0.35 cents added into pledges. Now, just to make sure everyone understands, this is how that breaks down.
How does this affect Patrons?
If you are currently pledging $3.00, this just means your pledge will be ~$3.44 now. ($3.00 + 2.9% (which is only 0.09) + 0.35).
If you are currently pledging $10.00, this means your pledge will be ~$10.64 now. ($10.00 + 2.9% (which is only 0.29) + 0.35).
Any other amounts will be easy to calculate. Take 2.9% of your pledge, add it into your pledge plus another 0.35 cents. So, Pledge + (Pledge x 0.029) + 0.35 = Total. Keep in mind, this is PER PLEDGE, so if you pledge to several creators, it's added to each pledge individually.
As you can see, there won't be a big change in the pledges moving forward. I can understand if this upsets anyone though, but this is 100% out of my control (I didn't know this was going to be a thing till today).
For anyone needing more information, Patreon has an FAQ about it here >> https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005631963 , and they should be emailing all Patrons tomorrow as well.
Thank you all for your support, and I totally understand if you need to withdraw your pledge. Thank you, regardless, for any and all support you have all shown me. I couldn't do this without you all!
