Love to see the true size of this alien after only seeing concept images of it

Ryan

Their is a size poster on his instagram the Pekt and Gord are yuge

I'm at a weird impasse. I love the very "alien" designs of the other races (not two legs two arms a head and face) but at the same time the very "yokel" dialogue of the other species feels off to me. Like how has this race's language evolved to incorporate very human dialect? I would imagine any auto-translator implants would render speech from other languages very "neutral" or at least without much or any character. Then again I could see these translators are not only handling speech but dialect, inflection, etc and turning it into something a human would understand.

Procyon17

How is the pekt even able to fit though the streets XD

Miningation

Most of it is probably translated for the reader’s benefit, though I imagine species of the Conglomerate are taught many languages, including English. We know the Conglomerate know English because they sent a message to the Earth Government for their ‘atrocities against the Chantauri and mankind’, which started the Earth-Conglomerate conflict.

Anthony Pratt

So if the Pekt mostly live underwater on their homeworld, then the tanks and hoses on this individual must provide some sort of life support outside of water. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the attention to detail in Humanity Lost!

Phil Knapp

It's more than just knowing English though. There is a great example on this page with the first big cell: "Honey come lay down. You're wasting your breath." You have a term of endearment that comes from English (at least I cant think of any other language that uses it) and then you have an English idiom. In retrospect, I think I answered my question above. But you make a good point, it's for the reader, it's hard to empathize with something that looks like all these alien races, that's why a lot of pop sci-fi does the "humanoid" aliens because you can visually get behind them. "Yeah, it looks like a person so I can have emotions surrounding them." In this case, it's the language used that we create emotion for these very "alien" races. I don't disapprove it's just such an interesting thing to talk about lol

Haladrias

Fantastic! Love the big guy.

Marcos

I was thinking the same. Then I want to know how this civilization work metals. You need fire for that.

CallumStephenDiggle

Very carefully and slowly, to the irritation of the locals haha. This Pekt is like a extreme tourist, it’ll probably end up perishing.

CallumStephenDiggle

That’s a very fair criticism to be honest, you can just imagine the algorithmic processing power the translator function on a general artificial intelligence made in there 26th century would have. Belfast would certainly be capable of translating these aliens speech in order to put Losté at ease. It’s not just for the readers benefit, it’s also of losté’s. He needs some comfort at least, he’s lost everything.

Miningation

There are probably underwater volcanoes on the Pekt’s homeworld. Or the life support is provided by other species.

CallumStephenDiggle

Most likely in the geothermal forges at first, then as they advanced they moved onto other methods. It’s an interesting discussion to have though, how would an underwater species advance, tell me your theories down below everyone! 👇

Wamcam

Holy cow I did not know Pekts were that big. I love it!

Ryan

Alexander theirs a size chart on his instagram you should check out

Cartoon dinosaur

selective breeding. bordering on the unethical and impractical.

Nick Cliffe

Does it have to be metal? Could be shell-materials like chitin.

Marcos

I thought about the geothermal vents, but they don't spread heat locally or in a specific point, the heat is diffused in the water around the forge so if one of them tries to do that, he would cook himself. It needs to be a way to heat only the place/metal, like with fire.

Marcos

Shell materials could work in a bronce-age or medieval-age civilization, but you cannot build a spaceship with that. Unless you have a very special shell that can hold atmospheric re-entry but we are entering in a crazy-magical speculation for that. Maybe they worked with shells until a specific point when they were capable of going to the surface of their planet and discovered fire. However, they are very big and I don't see how a primitive version of them could have accomplished leaving the water without a tank and then start a firecamp and then start working metals.

Khalif

To be honest i like how human these aliens are. It's a nice contrast to the hive mind of the imperium and what has become of humanity.

Garrett Zerkle

it would be cool if the homes of these creatures had more monkey bar like structures in them sense they are so comfortable hanging around
