The Wizard is back! I was silly to think that I could get this done in a single day, but at last, here it is.

I’ll be uploading the process videos for this page tomorrow, so you have that to look forward too!

can't wait for the wizard to reunite with Loste and become close friends on later adventure.

So yeah I asked a question about other humans surviving. Guess I have my answer

Justin Huynh

Is the UE meant to be an analog for the EU in real life? 😉

CallumStephenDiggle

Haha yeah, there it is! I’ll answer it again in the Q&A video when I finally get time to record it. I’ve been trying to come up with well thought out answers for each of the questions and it’s taking a bit of time.

CallumStephenDiggle

Heh, sort of, but not specifically. it’s meant to be a vague nod to the slow creep of the ever increasing centralisation of power, whether that be regionally or globally. It’s a semi-satirical picture of the path that we currently find ourselves on, of technocratic managerialism and progress for the sake of progression. It is also a play on Friedrich Nietzsche‘s concept of the “last man”, of a society so taken by the desire for comfort and security that they are entirely passive and mediocre, entrusting everything, even their freedom, to an all-powerful nanny-state.

Justin Huynh

Gotcha! I noticed the UE flag uses the same colors as the EU flag and has the same letters in its abbreviation. But yes, the recent past, especially the last few years, there's been a push toward collectivism and away from individuality.

Voligne

Remember: The EU can do what it does because nation-states have material incentives to be a part of it and to allow themselves to be exploite by it. The UE is different because it had to use force to hold itself together in the form of the All-Mother, there were no more benefits to being a part of the UE, unlike the EU.

Rigel Regent

The EU started as the European Coal and Steel Community.

Erika Spooner

When do you think the All-Mother started making posthuman troops? Were they used against rebelling nations? I wonder what the overall progression of the All-Mother's transformation of humanity looked like.

CallumStephenDiggle

Initially the imperium was more mechanical in origin, she would have used bio-hacked humans and VMW drones (like the one we saw in issue 2). I’d imagine that the transition was fairly quick given the rate of the singularity, perhaps only months.

Erika Spooner

You think they made physical alterations to people via some pathogen? Did she just take over everyone in an instant?

Marcos

I am shocked. I don't see the lineart as I normally prefer to see the finished page, so I was not expecting to find this at all, hahaha. I am amazed at the wizard for surviving and becoming something like this. It is absolutely awesome how the story and lore are moving forward.

Gabu

Very cool to have two big reveals at once: wizard still here and how the Earth ended up sending out no life boats. What about other people like Sam who were out on away missions? Did AM biohack them and just missed Sam?

CallumStephenDiggle

Thanks so much Marcos, that’s understandable! I’m really glad to hear that you’re enjoying it ☺️

CallumStephenDiggle

Yes, two huge bomb shells! See, now this is a realm that I would like to leave open, but yes, some surviving ships were got at by the imperium/All-Mother.

Incomplete Machine

I wonder if the Wizard will eventually go for full uploading. he's halfway there already. I feel bad for the woman who was with him though, and the rest of his little band of rebels. Will; we discover how he managed to escape when they didn't? I dont want to think he's the kind of dick who'd leave his people behind, but maybe im wrong.

Gabu

Good questions!

CallumStephenDiggle

I’m actually going to tackle that topic in the book, so I’ll leave it till that arises to answer your question, I’m going to approach the idea of transcendence from a philosophical point of view in the dialogue between two characters. As for his escape, that will be touched upon in this coming page. He did in fact leave his people behind, he didn’t have much of a choice though.

Captain_Torres

I just realized that the current Wizard has 6 limbs

Captain_Torres

A mechanical imperium? Man I'd really want to see an All-Mother-led Terminator army fight Conglomerate forces back out of Sol.

CallumStephenDiggle

He does indeed. He uses them in some interesting ways too, scurrying like an insect, striding like a centaur or walking like a bird.
