Does an Overfather normally approach leadership with this level of tact and sensitivity or is Deicide being this way toward Skiv because of who he is as an individual with the experiences he's been through?

That’s very true, a conversation with a Bo or a Vureii would be particularly interesting as they are both homeless species. There’s actually a Vureii being introduced soon called Ardo, so there’s an opportunity for that conversation to unfold after Ardo has been introduced. It’ll be a great way to solidify Ardo in the minds of the reader too I think, as a character with depth.

This is particular to Deicide. It’s because Skiv is one of the only friends Losté has, Skiv is important to keeping Losté sane and balanced in this new world he finds himself in, Deicide understands this.
