Unexpected Consequences and What Comes Next (Patreon)

I started working on what would eventually become Unexpected Consequences just over five years ago. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, and what was at the time called Love & Lust in Lakeview was a very different game from what it would become as it evolved into Unexpected Consequences. I would definitely do things differently if I could go back and start again, but overall, I’m happy with how the story of Unexpected Consequences has turned out. I’m especially happy with how it is coming to its conclusion, and I can’t wait to begin working on the art for the game’s final scenes. I want to take some time in this post to provide a little preview of what comes next.
First, 0.25 will contain the final nine scenes of Chapter 6, along with the start of the epilogue. I’m currently looking at including the first five epilogue scenes in 0.25, two of which are lewd scenes. The complete epilogue will be 23 scenes, including nine lewd. The current plan is for three more major releases: 0.25, 0.26, and 1.0. The epilogue will allow you to spend time with each of the love interests, finishing wrapping up the story, and provide some teases of the future.
Looking further ahead, the characters of Unexpected Consequences will return in the Unexpected Case Files series. The first Unexpected Case File will be based on the canonical ending to Unexpected Consequences, most importantly, meaning all relationships pursued and all pregnancies occurred. I will be implementing save transfers from one case file to the next; however, so any choices you make in the first case file will persist into the subsequent games.
On the subject of choices, I plan to include significant choices in Unexpected Case Flies, choices that completely change how the story plays out and what scenes you see. Unexpected Case Files will have much more variation and replayability than Unexpected Consequences or Altered Bloodlines. That said, there won’t be any bad endings for the Unexpected Case Files games, and you’ll always get to the correct solution for the case, eventually. I say eventually, because I’m planning for Clue the movie like multiple endings, huge hat tip to Nine of Swords for their excellent implementation of this in Mythos Book 1, for giving me the idea.
Next, I’d like to talk about the recent character poll. Now, I also have to admit that, regardless of the results of this poll, one character was already the focus of the first case, and two were already going to have minimal presence, having been hired by Tony to assist the DEA on a case in Hawaii. Fortunately, the poll results line up well with the decisions that I’ve already made. Alex and Violet are the two characters that will have minimal presence, and Alex was tied for seventh, while Violet was in last place. As for the leading lady of the first case, while it’s not Kat, who came in first, it is one of the beauties who tied for second, her sister, Jamie. See below for the full poll results.
First: Kathryn
Second: Jamie & Siobhán
Fourth: Alice & Liz
Sixth: Mia
Seventh: Alex & Talia
Ninth: Violet
So, while Jamie will get the most focus in the first case file due to the nature of the story, I will make sure that Kat and Siobhán get a lot of time in the spotlight as well. Alice, Liz, and Mia will each have an important part to play in the story as well, with Talia, Alex, and Violet having the smallest parts, but no one will be left out completely.
I’ve already put a lot of work into the outline for the first case file, and have even written a couple drafts of the opening scene. With the results of the popularity poll now in, I can start working on fleshing out the outline more, working on the many scenes that will feature the other girls besides Jamie. I haven’t only been working on the story for the game, though, and have spent some time working on sets and characters. The image below is a test render of your clients, Sean and Janet Oliver, sitting in the waiting area of your office. They are husband and wife business owners who need your help with a very important matter.
I will provide more teasers of the first Unexpected Case File in the future, but the juiciest bits of information will have to wait until after Unexpected Consequences is complete.
