You are really cranking these out! Thanks for another video.

Oh

Awesome 👍

Nice Briefing Jive. For the next poll i would suggest a Yasen Class Submarine

Scott Borg

Did you rub his bronze nose in Annapolis

Seahour

You madman, you got this done before noon eastern time! :D Steller brief, really enjoyed it! So cool you could go over the reactor plant in a unclassified way.

NZ Mariner

Thanks Jive! The reactor diagram and explanation was particularly interesting.

Alexander

Great Brief Jive, you did both of these Icons is good Service , the Nautilus and the Educator!!!

Ben Baselet

So much stuff in a PWR powerplant.. I wonder if people tried to make BWR designs (and succeeded). Should provide way more power for the space used.

William Hockstad

I usually do not want to see the sea, but I would love to see this..

Blair Siegel

Nice work as usual Jive, I look forward to these lectures in between my cold waters battles.

Whitzwolf

I'm guessing modern submarine nuclear reactors are somewhat different to the Nautilus? or do they still operate under the same primary and secondary loop conditions?

Whitzwolf

100% the reason they haven't used BWRs is for the fact of safety, PWRs have two loops whilst BWRs have one. If there was a steam leak it would be radioactive...

Ben Baselet

It's not a "100%" case. Exactly the same way a PWR primary loop will leak radioactive steam/water into the atmo. The main difference (at least for a conventional NPP) is that in a BWR the turbine island is somewhat radioactive during operation which limits the time people can spend there during operation. And if you have a fuel leak outages are more difficult due to the contamination. People often like to divide PWR/BWR into safe/unsafe but it's really not that simple.

does anybody know where I could find the dimensions of a Virginia class sub? like the size of the conning tower, bow planes, rudder, ect.? I am trying to make an RC Virginia.

Seahour

The second link would need perspective correction.

Michael

well I am going to use a pvc pipe for the hull but then 3d print the bow and stern sections and also all of the control surfaces and conning tower. I am using a software called FreeCAD it seems easier to use than some others. I have never done anything like this before though so we will see how it turns out! thanks for the reply!

Michael

the sub will be 1/90 scale so that's 50" long! i am crazy but i am having fun so far lol

Andrew MacDougall

Ahh. This brings back childhood memories of visiting the sub museum every time I could nag my mother to drive me there. I knew that place like the back of my hand after a while.

John Nowak

I just visited the museum recently. It's near the US Coast Guard Museum, which is also worth a visit.

Rickover, the original Top Gun.

Mario Sergio Porto

Rickover is the type of professional who is unmoved by difficulties, which breaks conventions and rules conscientiously to achieve his goals. They are rare, and not every one of them is successful. These are the type of men that sometimes humanity needs.

Paul D Berkebile

I didn't know that Adm. Rickover was an EDO. I qualified as an EDO in 1985.

Aaron Amick

He qualified his watchsatations and Command qualified in Groton, while being stationed in Philadelphia. They guy was motivated.
