IS IT TOO EARLY TO SAY MOVIE OF THE YEAR?! We went into this mostly blind and god damn did we love every bit of it. Its funny, its emotional, its scary, its unique... Bridgette couldn't get it together in the end 😂

A fun little detail I love is that Rocky said the screen room was boring when he first saw it because that was before he had his gun thing. Before that he couldn’t see what was on the screens 😂

I also love the fact that when Grace first goes in the tunnel, the wall is made of a bunch of different materials, but Rocky noticed he kept going to the glass so the next time the whole thing was glass.

I know yall mentioned adding it to the list at the end, but I just wanna say it’s definitely worth it. The book has a lot more humor, and a lot more science. The audiobook is especially good, and is the format most people recommend. That being said I think now that the movie is out it’s not as big of a deal to do the audiobook, but figured I’d mention it anyway.

It's not kind of dark, it is dark. They forced him to gave up his life. In the book his lasts words on earth were "you are murdering me" It's so sad

Been a few years since I read the book, but if I remember correct Rocky spent almost 50 years around Tau Ceti before he met Grace...no wonder he was excited. And like everyone else already said.. yes to The Martian (extended version if possible) Statement!

Ok, i knew the movie was going to be funnier than expected, but it I didn’t imagine it’d be such a tearjerker. I was like Brigette at times, crying too hard to even see what was going on. I’m so so glad there was the happiest of endings…i wouldn’t want to go back either if i had my own personal world built for me with my bestie.

In the book, Grace is reviewing problems reported from different departments, and as he gets to one about a food pump failure, the test site explodes, killing the primary and backup scientist characters. So he and everyone else is distracted, and it's implied this food pump failure is what ended up causing the deaths of his two crew mates. The computer was unable to fix the issue on its own, so they both basically starved to death in their induced comas. Bad bad bad.

This movie is actually so well done! The script includes a lot of fun callbacks like the, "You're smart, you'll figure it out." And "Can I think about it? You have 3 hours," vs. "Can I think about it? Yes think long time." Some of my favorite moments are when Rocky tells Grace he can save his life. Grace is facing away from him in the darkness and as Rocky talks he turns to face him and then walks into the light. And when he erases the whiteboard and draws the plan to save Rocky, He's literally erasing all the things that he has figured out about himself and it's like he is erasing his past self who was not willing to come on the mission and replacing it with the man who's willing to risk his life to save his friend. Earlier in the movie the captain told him that bravery isn't a gene, you just need someone to be brave for. By the end of the movie, he has found that in Rocky. 🥹

Definitely watch the Martian. Also you missed the prison tatoo on Stratt at the end. She was sent to prison for what she did to Grace and other decisions along the way. Even though it was dark, she made all the decisions she had to, to save the Earth, and she accepted the consequences for her actions.

I went into this one knowing nothing other than what I got off the poster, which was just… a picture of Ryan Gosling presumably in space for some reason. Was incredible. I’m with Bridgette on this one. Movie kind of ruined me but was so so worth it. You should indeed watch The Martian! It’s super good. It’s not as emotional an experience as this one is, or at least it wasn’t for me, but it’s still a great movie.

The thing that really made this movie work is the non-linear narrative. If we had known that he was not willing to go, it would have ruined the twist/emotional hit. Somewhat manipulative, not a fan of non reliable narrators, but I don't mind this time. Great movie.

I have watched so many reactions because it is such a feel-good movie and I'm currently in rehab. I've got 41 days sober today and thankfully we are able to have our phones in here so I can watch great movies like this one and beautiful People's reactions like the two of you.
