One of the reasons they released them in this order is because of the reveal in this movie. The prequel trilogy is basically entirely about Darth Vader's (...and the Empire's,) origin story. So that whole scene in this movie wouldn't have hit as hard.

Episode IV - A New Hope. A cute space aliens movie for kids. Episode V - Peak star wars and the best second movie of all time. Episode VI - Well I guess that was fun and we won. Also, slave leia. Episode I - The guy who made this hadnt made a movie for 20 years but he has all the money in the world and lots of input, so he might as well make it himself. And it shows. Episode II - Boring and convoluted. My favorite of the prequels. Episode III - The battle of winterfell episode. With all the good and bad. Episode VII - The best of the sequels and the birth of a type of movie. Episode VIII - What if we do what we do in VII but now we do it from the opposite side? And it failed. My favorite of the sequels. Episode IX - Hope is Dead. You should have skipped straight to Andor.

While many people do read the "I know" line as Han just being cocky, another (and better, in my opinion) reading is that Leia has been denying her feelings for Han the entire movie and is desperate to communicate with him before he potentially dies. She wants him to know that he was right, she does love him, and she regrets not telling him. His response isnt him being cocky, it is him reassuring her that he knows she loves him, and she doesnt need to be regretful.
