GAME OF THRONES [8x5] | EXTENDED REACTION

Comments

Marcos Paulo

We are finally here. With our jet and atomic bomb.

CaitCat

Oh hell yeah!! Can't wait for this one.

Ry.Blair

My favourite episode😂🔔 she isn't a mad Queen. She is a Dragon 🐉

Ry.Blair

All jokes aside. She isn't the mad queen but someone who has lost everything and everyone. Also they overstate Targaryen Madness, like only 5 out of all of them was mad. Imagine if Sansa or Arya was to have a dragon... Kings Landing would've been burnt to a crisp. Especially Sansa the little Cersei-wannabe. I respect Cersei (for most of the show.) We knew what she was from the get go.

Ry.Blair

Varys was trying to poison Dany, in the beginning "she won't eat" "the bigger the risk the bigger the reward" also last season Dany said to Varys "If you ever betray me... I'll burn you alive"

Itss_NattyJ

I forgot , toasting Varys is the second closing to a character’s storyline I hated.

daeornight

The Mad Queen plot could have been so well done, but of course the showrunners had to rush the shit out of the show that made them because they wanted to do some Star Wars shit. The Hound and the Mountain had such a masterful end to their story. Props to Lena Headley for such a masterful performance as Cersei and my only coping mechanism for Jaime is that he is still on track for the best redemption arc in fantasy if not book history.

Losing everything and everyone is what drives her mad, but it doesn't change the madness of killing at least 100,000 civilians, probably closer to 200,000+. Especially after it was over and her enemy had surrendered. She earned the Mad Queen name. (Now if that was actually in character or bad writing is a completely different debate). We can debate if Sansa or Arya would have killed that many, we don't know, it will always just be opinion. But personally no I don't think any of the Starks would have done that. But they would also be Mad and I would be just as critical of them if they had. There is no justification for that choice in that situation.

Ry.Blair
>>128681862

Fair enough, that is your opinion. I would not say she is "mad" in terms of madness but rather "mad" in terms of anger like "I'm getting mad". I could definitely see Arya or Sansa burning Kings Landing especially after Ned and what the people tried to do to Sansa in the streets.

Robert L

I love this episode. I’m not lying I know this episode has a mixed reaction but man it looked so good on my tv😂😂😂

Fonzee

MUH QUEEN

Kendra Muah

This whole “Mad Queen” doesn’t work for me! The lack of character development to show she would go that far is insane to me. Couldn’t stand this damn episode.

Marcos Paulo

We said she's crazy now, she was always crazy. We just supported her as a hero cause she was burning those we hated. Compared to Aryas with the exception of that first kid she murdered leaving Kings Landing she always went after bad people and had good judgment for her age aside from that stupid sibling banter on the 7th season.

AG

just started the reaction but i agree with you cody with the “when and how” of dany and jon’s “love”. i hated so much that we got these two amazing characters together and had to be constantly told instead of shown them falling in love. i never felt any chemistry between them and they had like 4 scenes together before being supposedly into each other. another pacing issue possibly…

Ana Fox

Omg the long awaited destruction 😱

Chanty Doodles

Guys this wasn't about Jon's love for Dany, i think it's mainly his honour and loyalty to Dany that's getting in his way, plus he hoped he could have the best of both worlds with his family and his queen. Jon swore himself to dany so of course he would be just as loyal as Ned, even now when he's been warned by people, because he's saw the good side of Dany and understands her pain too hut unfortunately she snaps & shock Jon and Tyrion when she decides to liberate the who city her way. Guys Dario wouldn't help anything, even though shes feels like shes lost Jon and he betrayed her, she does still truly love Jon depsite all the revelations. Dany has never loved Dario and wven pointed out how she felt nothing for him at the end when she broke his heart. She felt nothjng, whereas during 7x06, she was so scared and felt alot when Jon fell into the ice lake, she even waited for him at the wall, looking so relieved that he had returned alive

Katie Thomas

Despite the obvious bombastic moments that were purely for sensation, I’ve always thought this was one of the best produced episodes of the show. It’s visually so stunning. The cinematography kills and the music was so good too.

TheHighLife

Jamie said to Bronn he would die in the arms of the woman he loved. They really wanted you to believe he had changed but Jamie has always went back to Cersei. But I'm the most disappointed that Cersei died like that. Maybe poetic being literally and metaphorically crushed by the kingdom she was so hell bent on having. Totally disappointing. As for Danerys they've had to talk her off the ledge and have the same convo with her over and over since before she even got to Westros. Except for Olenna who supported her doing this very thing. I wasn't disappointed with this writing only because it was so vague going into it on how she would act anyways. I think hyping people up to like Danerys and then doing that was somewhat genius to me in my unpopular opinion. Like Ramsey said If you think this has a happy ending you haven't been paying attention

Katie Thomas

I watched this with someone recently and she said “tell me she doesn’t die in the arms of the man she loves. Jfc”

Chrissy

And I’m supposed to not look at her as the mad Queen when she set the city on fire when she could have just flown right to the castle and Cersei. K then.

Chrissy

Thank God there’s only one episode left where I have to hear Jon say “My Queen”. It’s like nails on a chalkboard at this point 🤦🏻‍♀️

Chrissy
>>128686304

Exactly. It takes approximately 2 minutes for people to fall in love on this show. I felt more chemistry between her and Jorah to be honest.

Ste Rawlings

Like most people when this originally aired I thought the mad queen turn was dumb and poorly done but after rewatching the show through your reactions it was a lot better set up than a lot of people want to admit.

Que

Euron greyjoy: " I fucked the queen" Me: " WHO HASN'T" 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mauro

Like all this build up about killing Cersei and she dies by the rubble… I was so pissed they rushed this season too quick…

mya

I am a big fan of corruption arcs and I am honestly all for a Mad Daenerys arc but this one was so bad. It almost feels like all her development into madness happens when she is off screen and then she is back on screen and we're just left to see how much she changed in those few hours. Like every time I watch this episode even knowing the ending I still think Daenerys is going to fly straight to Cersei and burn the red keep. Especially because Daenerys was always cool with the small folk and had issues with nobility, like she hated every noble in meereen, westeros, and yunkai. like I said I don't hate her going this evil and burning King's Landing. I think it's poetic in a way, Targaryen's built the city and now one destroys it, I just wish it was done better. Like maybe it was small folk who killed Missandei or turned her in out of fear of Cersei or something. JUST SOMETHING. And time and development.

mya

Btw Maegors Holdfast is like a safety room. Maegor "The Cruel" Targaryen built the Red Keep. He built it with secret passageways and a panic room for them to hide. He essentially built it for Targaryens to survive a siege. Then he killed all the men who worked on it, so only Targaryens would know the secrets of the red keep. Tyrion knew this too, he uses the tunnels in S2 which is another way Daenerys could've taken the city without this lol but writers forget a lot I guess, idk.

SierraNicole

Varys deserved to die. If trying to poison and/or overthrow your queen isn't execution-worthy treason, what is?? Also, by the time he turned on Dany I was really over his wishy-washyness. He never wanted to try and change things himself...he just wanted to bet on a new horse when the one he put all his money on didn't do as well as he hoped. He really came off like a fair-weather fan at the end of it all and that's a disservice the writers did to his character. And Tyrion really should have gone to Dany first after hearing from Sansa. Dany was right...Sansa told Tyrion knowing that he would pass it on and undermine his Queen because she's smarter than all of them at this point. Dany's already lost everything and then the two counsel she was relying on and trusting betrayed her. Tyrion by not going straight to her and instead telling such a huge secret to someone he knew had growing suspicions, and Varys for literally trying to kill her after (pretty openly) plotting against her. Like he just told her boyfriend he wanted him on the throne. How is Dany supposed to just let open rebellion from one of her counsel fly? And this man has already tried to kill her so many times, how many chances is she supposed to give him? As for Tyrion, all he's done is fail her. He failed her in Yunkai, he failed her at Casterly Rock, he failed her in Winterfell, he failed her at Dragonstone, and he failed her in King's Landing. I think she's been way more patient than she had any call to be with such an objectively bad Hand.

Jesse Hogan

Just wanted to point out in the same way Daenerys had one goal to become the Queen, Jon only ever wanted to be a stark in the beginning that led to deep seeded psychology necessity to be as honorable as Ned was. So Jon's pledge to the Queen; for him to do anything besides stand beside her would go against his entire character. For that reason I think it is less him being dumb and more just him being the same honorable character he has always been. Up and until she decided to kill innocent people at which point the most honorable thing to do is no longer follow his vow to her as queen. Just a thought. I know it's annoying but it would have been out of Character for Daenerys or Jon to act any differently then they did. Daenerys was always going to sway to the side of madness and anger because there were always hints to that throughout the books and the show. Loved your reactions though.

SierraNicole

I think people were able to buy that Dany was pushed far enough to go to King's Landing with her Dragon and attack the Red Keep. She's lived her whole life in violence and has perpetrated it justly albeit sometimes pretty wrathfully many times. What felt inexplicably out of character was her hearing the bells and then turning around and burning everyone and everything she laid eyes on. Where did that come from? It was that instant snap that didn't seem to have an impetus. Despite her anger and desperation, she'd stuck strictly to military targets so far. But they surrender and she decides to slaughter everyone in sight?? Many people tried to defend that choice by the writers but no one ever did so convincingly. It was really like she suddenly went "mad" in a flash and never came back.

KT

With respect, dany isn’t the bitch here, the directors/writers are ( nutter 😮‍💨😂 and benioff)… dany deserved better than this bullshit. The actress that plays dany, Emilia Clark was devastated reading this script - so was Kit/ Jon - watch the behind the scenes script reading on YouTube with the full cast. The devastation is literally palpable. I pray GRRM gives dany the ending she deserves… and don’t get me started on Ghost (I’m still sad Jons character didn’t give him **at least** a nuzzle.. good boy lost an ear for you man) … alas, dany isn’t the bitch here…Cersei is- has always been…as well as the director/writers nutter and benioff…. Best of luck next episode

SierraNicole

Also, the Northman being garbage people and just killing and raping innocents too would have been an interesting sort of vindication that maybe the world really does just deserve to burn (especially since the North have kind of been the "good guys" throughout the show). The writers didn't really do enough to make a statement of that at all but the fact that the regular westerosi men who weren't fighting out of love for Dany were still blindly taken in by the rage they felt toward the people of the capitol (or worse, just taken in by the sport of war) could have made for an thematic or poetic justification for Dany's turn. Another missed opportunity (or half-assed attempt if that was the point) by the writers. And I think for Grey Worm, it was mostly about Missandei's death but also, he and Missandei were treated horribly by the people of Westeros since they landed. He has no love for these people and probably sees their blind hatred of him and their intolerance of him as something similar to the way the Masters dehumanized him all his life. His rage is fueled by revenge and the trauma of oppression, I think.

Gylfie
>>128691267

I totally agree. When I first watched I was pissed at the mad queen angle and thought it was lazy writing but after re-watching, how can you blame her, everyone she loved / trusted either died or failed her and she wasn't built to play the game of thrones.

AG

it just sucks because looking back at how incredible earlier seasons were, imagine the emotional punch and impact seeing something like this would have if it were done up to those standards. i hate how the penultimate episode of my favorite show is such a letdown for reactions. most reactors i’ve seen are (kinda) shocked right when she starts burning civilians but then just give in to how ridiculously it was done and seem annoyed by the end of it. and i really wanted jaime to kill cersei too. or arya. really anyone but a pile of rocks.

AG
>>128687573

the music in this show was never not amazing

Battlebug
>>128691267

yeah shes always had a violent vengeful streak and we cant be surprised, shes a product of her upbringing she went from being raised with her entitled violent brother to being married off to a violent man from a violent culture to then leading the people of that violent culture. She literally told them in previous seasons she would burn the cities of their enemies. “When my dragons are grown, we will take back what was stolen from me and destroy those who wronged me. We will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground”

Ginge Tomassi
>>128691267

Oh I absolutely blame her. My point is that this was always in her but we just wanted to overlook so many warning signs the first time.

Tzeiggi

"We will take back what was stolen from me, and destroy those who wronged me, we will lay waste to armies, and burn cities to the ground." - Daenerys Targaryen, S2E4

Demented Avenger

Who remembers the famous line from D and D? "We just witnessed the end of the Dothraki"? Remember? The Long Night? The end of the Dothraki?

Marcos Paulo
>>128689172

It's mind bugging every time I see her after finishing the surroundings, gets quiet and seems to think "I'm going to make you watch all your people go." Cersei doesn't care, honey.

Chrissy
>>128689172

Yep. Even in Cersei’s last moments with Jamie, the selfish wench was still wailing about how SHE didn’t want to die, “don’t let ME die Jamie” even in her last moments, it’s all about Cersei, she cared not one fuck about those people.

TallTyrionLannister
>>128691267

100% agree. I think if season 7-8 aired as one continuous season, it would have been a lot easier to digest for most people. It’s pretty easy to see her decent into madness when you’re watching quickly, as Cody and Bridgette have noticed a bunch of times.

Emily Rose

Dany murdering innocent people :( Watching Cerai panic and be a big loser :)

Dana (Dah-Nah)

you guys have to see the interview of Emilia, Nathalie and Jacob when they were asked how they felt about the final season 😭 they were all like "haha yeah it's great! 😀😀😀"

Lina Marshall

Let’s BREAK THIS DOWN…. Dany started off being told what to do , her brother TOLD/MADE her marry Sir Fine Drogo (which we came to love their love) but was TOLD she had no choice… How How How How many times has Dany done what other ppl told/asked her what she SHOULD do and she listened and then winds up suffering from it…. her not snapping should have happened long ago… She fought the Night King and his freaking army, did ALL the work , meanwhile Cersi knew and let them do the heavy lifting ..while Cersi walked around in the sun sipping wine 🍷 She BE-HEADED HEADED Dany BFF CERSI BLOW UP THE FREAKING Court with wildfire killing Queen Marjory and who knows how many INNOCENT ppl ( but ppl forget that) Dany went BEYOND the wall lost a dragon took evidence back to Cersi … who then LIED and said she help and as per usual she didn’t .. again meanwhile she’s walking around sipping wine 🍷 Cersi had a choice to be judged for her sins/crimes and SHE said “I choose VIOLENCE” Dany did ALL THE WORK WTF DID CUNTY CERSI DO??? ( I’ll wait) Cersi NEVER SHOWED MERCY How many times did Danny?????? Even iconic G-Ma told her she needs to act like a Dragon .. how can you call yourself Mother of Dragons but nobody fears YOU not your dragons YOU.. I don’t care who agrees and or not I’m TEAM MOTHER OF DRAGONS 🐉 Also let’s remember this is a SHOW ..and even tho the last season was rushed faster than the Express Train … if the writers intention was to emotionally abuse us an have it still be a topic years later and beyond.. well it worked . Im still trying to get HBO MAX whoever to pay my damn therapist bill!

V

A bit funny to see these guys get extra saltier about Cersei than usual, seemingly to compensate for the awkward feeling of their favorite character literally committing a g*cide right then 😂

Tatev Vardapetyan

Can wait for you guys to start House of the Dragon! Bridgette will love it, so many different dragons 😍🤍

Tatev Vardapetyan

My biggest problem with this ending/season is that it was rushed. I do believe Danys arch will make more sense in the final book.

Peter Christopher Banlon

This is when the GOT faithful turned on the show. Usually, you can tell a show is dead and running on fumes when the writers jump the shark. AND I DON'T LIKE IT! Ha!

Courtney Conover
>>128713404

Yes she was sold to Drogo. And Catelyn was sold to Ned, no choice. And Lysa to Jon Arryn. And so on. If you think any noble woman has a choice to not be sold off to a stranger for political gain, you're not living in reality lol

Courtney Conover
>>128716419

She's already a terrible person right now in the books. She's just Cersei. I can't stand reading her POV chapters

MamaSeesa

If you rewatch the series, you'll see that Dany has been on the edge of mad the whole time. Her coin landed on its edge and has been wobbling until now. All those epic things she did that we love? There was an edge to them. When she freed the Unsullied, it was VERY epic and beautiful and we all cheered for her freeing slaves. But she didn't care about the city left behind. She ripped out their source of economy and left the good people to rot along with the bad. How do you think it was so easy to set slavery back up in the slave cities? She created a vacuum and didn't care what filled it. All of her decisions pushed the envelope a little bit, and she had people like Jorah, Selmy, Missandei, Jon, etc to hold her back. She's lost all of the people she truly cares for, lost the love of Jon, lost two dragons...it's no wonder her coin finally stopped wobbling and landed squarely on insane. The signs have been there since the beginning if you look for them.

MamaSeesa
>>128691267

Preach. When you take your rose colored 'Dany is epic at everything' glasses off and really pay attention, it's all right there.

Lina Marshall
>>128713404

A women not being able to have a voice or choice!?! Now that’s just preposterous 🤯 annnnnnd sounds about right

Sierra Brooks

Jamie did say he wanted to die in the arms of the woman he loved

Roosevelt Reed III

great reaction! only thing I disagree on is the whole Sansa was right thing. Saying something will be a problem and then contributing to it coming to true and being a problem does not make you right lol

Abraham Lever

It’s crazy how the Iron Fleet hit their shots 3 for 3 last episode against the other dragon. But this episode, with even more scorpions available, they suddenly turn into stormtroopers missing every single shot 🤦🏾‍♂️

Courtney Conover
>>128754922

To be entirely fair, she was prepared this time. She was caught off guard last time. Also, Drogon is the bigger/stronger/more agile dragon . Rhaegal was severely injured and nursing his wounds after the Long Night battle. He was a sitting duck.

Emily Rose
>>128710656

But for real the hound has been my favorite character since season two and they did his character justice. He redeemed himself by saving Sansa and Arya and saying fuck Joffrey. I was so happy they brought him back in season 6 and he died a good man

GoTJake

The penultimate episode. My goodness you guys are almost done. Visarion was the weakest dragon who was taken by the Night King. Rhaegal was the one Jon rode killed by Euron’s scorpions. Drogon is the strongest of the three so he had the best potential to cause such havoc. This episode made headline entertainment news because it was the one people said wtf to and started hating the ending. The finale has a balanced but disappointing conclusion. I guess by now you guys have seen it but it’s not been posted yet. No matter, it’s still epic and I love this show. ❤️

jaeideun
>>128682355

everyone always seems to miss this! she was right to kill him, that was treason

jaeideun
>>128694229

^^^^thisssss sansa was playing the game of thrones and using everything she learned from cersei and little finger. dany clocked it and that’s why she told jon not to say anything!

bateman bookworm

varys knew what he was doing u can’t blame tyrion. varys commited treason and died for it like everyone else, dany is NOT crazy for that lol, maybe some other things😭. ppl seem to forget that even ned criticized jamie for killing his king bc of honor and who u swear to. tywin sacked the city during robert’s rebellion and no one cared, ppl judge dany for doing things everyone else does as well. i also cannot believe the way cersei went out. 8 seasons of he bullshit and she gets a poetic ending in the arms of her lover. i wanted to see dany mess her UP

bateman bookworm
>>128696647

yes greyworm and the unsullied have never been treated right by the west. and dany FREED them, that is a loyalty that is never broken, a feat that will never be topped. they have no connection to the westerosi ppl. which is why i find what happens next ep so u believable. *SPOILERS* u expect me to believe that the unsullied just let dany die with no repercussion?? oh yeah greyworm all of the sudden believed in a fair trial lol jon would have been dead there and then not only by the unsullied but by DROGON. dnd really messed up the targaryen lore as a dragon has no loyalty to ANYONE other than their rider, and especially bc dany “BIRTHED” them rather than just connect to an existing dragon. i’m glad hotd is sticking true to the lore more bc it was butchered in got

Sean O'Neill

This is what people really hated. Danny went from liberating slaves for the entire series, with some violence like crucifying the masters, and being a compassionate person who cared about the people, to just a murderous mad queen at the drop of a hat. I get that Varys betrayed her and Missandei’s death was tragic, but a good ruler does not then just go murder tens of thousands of innocent civilians. It was a ridiculous turn for her character and completely at odds with who she has been the entire time. It took two episodes for her to turn into her father. I hated this from Danny, it was terrible writing.

Sean O'Neill
>>128786253

You can dress it up however you want, Danny went insane. She spent the entire series being mostly benevolent and punishing those who deserved to be punished while protecting and saving the common people. Then, over the course of two episodes, because one person betrayed her and a good friend was murdered, she turned into her father and killed tens of thousands of innocent people after the city surrendered to her. She won, the city was hers and out of revenge, spite and insanity, she destroyed everything. This goes completely against her entire character arc up until S8E3. It’s bad writing, terrible writing.

Anna J

Incredibly rushed and stupid, yes. But I expected Dany to do this since like end of s01/start of s02. All she ever talked about was burning armies of her enemies and cities to the ground and how she will take what is hers with fire and blood. She always wanted violence and gory vengeance and only chose otherwise when Jorah and Barristan convinced her. She used the whole "freeing slaves from bad people" narrative to gain followers and loyalty, but she didn't seem to care about them when she threatened to burn Qarth and everyone in it if they don't let her in back in s02, or when Dothraki and Drogo pillaged to fund her war lol Not to mention her main goal and obsession from s01 was getting thr Iron Throne cause her brother convinced her it is their sole purpose to reclaim it. She liked the idea of the power, not really undetstanding what it means to sit on it and what the people and the land there are like. Later on when she convinced herself she is this grand saviour she started talking about "liberating people of westeros from tyranny", but even if a good ruler was on the throne, that wouldn't really change anything. All I'm saying is, she was always meant to be a villain, but one that we can sympathise with. On the other hand I absolutely hated what they did to Jon in the last 2 seasons, made him an absolutely different character from early seasons and the books. People are like "aw yeah Jon is like Ned blah blah", Jon was never like Ned, that was the entire purpose of his inner turmoil in earlier seasons, he wanted to be honorable like Ned, but he couldn't help his little Targ schemeing side in him, he lied and tricked and deceived people when he had to and he always secretly wished for power.

Jeff Jake

And now you're starting to see why people HATED the last of this season. They should have spread this out over a full season so we could see a better transition of Danny slipping into madness. We deserved a better death for Cersei. They short changed us big time. PATHETIC writing. I was less pissed off about the ending to LOST.

Its_NattyJ
>>128793311

I 100% agree with everything @Anna J so beautifully articulated. 👏🏾👏🏾

Its_NattyJ
>>128710932

Any interview with any of the cast about the last season is like that. Lol

Its_NattyJ
>>128707557

I’m willing to bet it will be the following week but who knows, Cody might get us ep1 by next Saturday and that would be awesome.

bateman bookworm
>>128786253

no i know she went insane lol but ppl criticize her for other things that everyone else in the series has done. like killing varys

Diana Gero

I'm glad we finally got the "Clegain Bowl" but I hate that the Hound died in fire, of all things! Danerys going bat-shit-crazy was almost too much, but after loosing Jorah, Messandie, and John as a lover, not to mention she felt her advisors weren't helping her anymore, so much that you execute one of them - you can see how this might happen. We saw it coming for the last few episodes to be honest. One of the things I've hated the MOST is how Jon hasn't seemed to have any balls whatsoever this entire season and most of the last!

Erin Black
>>128815147

Plus she lost Viserion and Rhaegal...But, after this vulgar display of power, she was dead to me. I could tell Seasons ago that she was going to descend into madness. She was too focused on people "Bending the Knee" and being the boss over everything. The crown meant way too much to her.

Erin Black

I could tell from the end of Season 1 and beginning of Season 2, that Daenerys was going to descend into madness. She liked burning people, she was stuck on that "Bend the Knee" crap, and all she thought about was that stupid Throne and Crown. When she was burning people, not even in Battle, and telling them afterwards she was goung to burn the rest of them, if they did not "Bend the Knee", when they had already sworn oaths to another Queen, that should have been the hint. If another Queen would have asked her people to switch sides or burn, I bet she would have considered that evil. She was a law breaker herself. She was supposed to go live with the Khalasar's Widows, and she burned people alive to get out of it. She committed War Crimes, especially by not ceasing fire when the bells started ringing. Dragons should not be turned into War Machines, just like people should not use Nukes...It just isn't fair. *R.I.P., All of King's Landing* ☠️💀🪨🐎🏰🔥🐉🌪🌊🛶🔥🐉🆘️🖤💀☠️😭🤧🤬
