NickNackGus' Comments on Resets and Item Replacement

Transcript: Hello, I’m NickNackGus and I write code for Monumenta. During terrain resets, King’s Valley gets reset to a pristine state, but without modification this does not include the apartments, plots, and various other things that our players create. We used to open the play world in MCEdit, copy the areas we need into schematics, and paste them into the pristine world. As you can imagine, this was a very time consuming process. We’re now using custom code based on MCEdit to copy areas automatically, and we have been working to improve this process for some time. This code copies the terrain, removes forbidden blocks and items, and updates items that are out of date. While we have had a number of bugs with this process, we have taken great care to ensure that any mistakes we make can be reverted. My main focus lately has been item replacements. When we buff an item, player items get the same update. While you may not like it when an item gets nerfed or removed, my goal is to reduce the frequency of full resets - and I am happy to say that we did not need a full reset between closed beta and open beta. Some of the item replacements don’t appear to make items better or worse - those cases are usually bug fixes, and shouldn’t affect normal use. I hope this helps you understand a little more about what happens when the server goes down, and hope you enjoy Monumenta.
