Only 15 more episodes until we see my favorite character

William Timmins

One more reaction for one of my favorites. ;)

Andrew Pineda

To answer the pronouns question around 4:30, pretty much all Gems use She/Her pronouns. Amethyst probably just signed up to the wrestling thing using He because it’s the persona

Vilmu

Amethyst normally uses she/her, but it's been stated she sometimes likes to experiment with male forms. You asked if Crystal Gems can have children regardless of gender...it's not really particularly spoilery, but I think it's a topic for a bit later. "Pink? How can it be invisible and pink?" Lol invisible pink unicorn reference. I love how Lion acts more like a realistic animal (magic powers and pink color aside,) unlike many cartoon pets who emote like a human and seem to understand every single word said to them. Also, fun fact regarding She-Ra: In the original She-Ra, Catra had a pink lion as her pet/ride named Clawdeen (a lioness with a mane...damn, even her lion is queer!) But when making the She-Ra reboot, the creators rightfully felt the design was extremely similar to Lion here, leading to them making her animal companion something different. Melog's design is based on one-off monster of the same name from the og cartoon (a mud creature made from Shadow Weaver's magic that shapeshifts into She-Ra to fight her) and og Catra's purple panther form she transforms into with her magical mask.

Olive

I don't think it's spoilers since it was something the creator, Rebecca Sugar, said during an interview and is never out right stated in the show. All of the gems are technically genderless but they all use she / her pronouns. The gem species are meant to be a representation of the creators own gender identity. She is nonbinary and uses she/ her and they/them pronouns :) Steven being the exception to that rule likely because he's half human~ The giving birth thing is kinda a spoiler so I'll leave it at that~ Also a fun fact: Steven as a character is based on the creators little brother!

Robert Stubbs

Fish stew pizza WITH pineapple? 😈

Annieme

Lion is my favourite non-pet pet. Its so funny that all he eats is shrimp and thats where he gets his pink hue from :3

I am glad that you have been enjoying the show this much. Tiger Millionaire is one of my favourite episodes, I watch wrestling so I loved seeing Amethyst and Steven act like heels (simply put the bad guy in a match). Garnet and Pearl trying to play along after they wanted to back off was so good, Pearl trying to sound so menacing when saying that she wants to stop all wrestling gets me every time. Steven's Lion is a good episode, and shows how Steven is getting better at handling Gem stuff. He messed up with the sand on the beach but fixed it almost as soon as it happened, and showed some great improvements to his athleticism. I am very glad that you like Lion. Once again thank you for doing these reactions and I hope they do well on YouTube, I know it will likely be a headache for the episodes that have songs and also WB can be pretty rude with copyright claims. Steven Universe is a very well-loved show and I think you'll get plenty of people who want to tune in.

Joy (a.k.a. Gentle Lionheart)

Introducing Lion! The latest and cutest addition to the Crystal Clods! Lion is actually quite wise and mysterious. Let's not forget about that time he revealed secrets to Steven that no one else in the world knew about... Anyway, I'm glad this lovely show was able to help brighten up your day a bit and I hope you're doing well. <3

Something to know, is that when a nonbinary character shows up in this show, the show will generally reference their pronouns a few times in their introductory episode as viewer guidance, and this will likely happen a few times in the future. In this case, when Purple Puma is introduced, Mr. Smiley refers to 'He/Him', and this can be considered the correct pronouns for the character of Purple Puma, similar to your friend's experience.

Cookie Cat is so key to understanding all

Joey Quixote

Lion is based off of show creator Rebecca Sugar's cat of the same name. Unfortunately, we just got news this week that he passed after a long and happy life. Their loving tribute to their beloved pet is immortalized in this series. I'm gonna have a hard time not getting misty-eyed for all of his upcoming appearances. Well, maybe not the AU arc where he actually does talk. Turns out he's just some free-loader named Gavin who's looking for a posh worry free life. Nobody likes Gavin. But his tape collection is out of this world.

cosmotron

The Tiger Millionaire episode is interesting when you compare those who are into wrestling and those who aren't. I'm not into wrestling but know enough about it to get how it works and a lot of the specific jokes. But I was watching the show with my cousin, and she has never watched wrestling and knows nothing about it, so she spent the episode largely confused lol.

Corey Peters

People who don't like this show are just mad that there single

Zen

"I'm sure it'll take a turn somewhere" What?! No...! This goofy kid is gonna stay happy and fun-loving forever! Especially in the future!

Verdigree

The thing about American wrestling (coming from someone who's never watched it but has been told about it) is that it's less an athletic competition and more like reality television, where the wrestlers have character arcs and storylines, and the villians are called "heels", it mostly runs on willing suspension of disbelief, and the thing about Lars this episode is he's one of the people who completely bought into the fiction

Tristan Haller

As others have said, the specifics of Gem reproduction are a bit spoiler, but the joke about Steven being pregnant here is really just that Ronaldo is a moron.

Annieme

I love how much you’re loving this show 🥰💖 SU got me thru a really hard time, so it holds a very special place in my heart.

Kit

Further fun facts: said younger brother, Steven Sugar, also works in the animation industry and has drawn backgrounds for this show, The Owl House, and possibly ducktales, to name a few!

Tim Ryan

"the kind of shit my girlfriend would eat" LOL Possibly true but you don't say that! :)

Porpoise Power

Mosco don't read this (Spoiler) So... Here's some more words to hide the spoiler. Seriously if you keep reading at this point its not my fault, and the show is what 10 years old+ by now? Anyways... I gotta ask, why doesn't Pearl/Garnet/Amethyst recognize the lion? She had an entire pride of them at somepoint. And here's some more random gibberush so the spoiler isn't at the end of the block.

HeroNotFound

I can’t wait for the birthday episode and especially for GIANT WOMAN!!

Gone

"We may need to have a conversation, there's a lot of deep rooted problems happening there." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Neetaku

Steven is loved by 100% of fans and he has quite the extraordinary character growth through the seasons, you know, a diamond in the rough.

Antony Oscar Art

I just love the way the Lion is animated, he (?) is so goofy and cute yet kinda intimidating at the same time. :D

Arianod

That's an apt way of putting it ^^

Arianod

All the gems go by she/her ^^ Mr Smiley simply thinks "The Purple Puma" is a man.

Arianod

Man, how could I forget that Tiger Millionaire was such a GREAT episode????

Arianod

Probably because Steven's Lion came out right after it with all the reveals and plot implications ^^u

Alex Koder

I just had a vision. Wee Lass is going to react to Steven Universe.

Reym

Cap-I-understood-that-reference.gif lol

Vilmu

Amethyst goes by he/him as Purple Puma. The art book states she likes to experiment with male forms, Purple Puma being one of them.

Reym

I applaud your spoiler-free question asking. Well structured. I'm stealing it for this sorta-spoiler reply (because I don't think we get any canon answers, this is just my view of it) XD Because we didn't see any of the other gems when we saw her with the pride of lions, I always just assumed that she was on some kind of personal mission/retreat/exploration at the time. She met and befriended them - one of them being Lion I assume since he has the same nose - something happened to him to cause the change (we can guess what, given later events) and that's basically it. I always just viewed it as an example that everyone - no matter how well you know them - has parts of their life they don't share. Since Pearl says explicitly later that as far as she knew Rose never had a lion, I think this was just an example of this. There's always going to be stuff about the people we love that we know nothing about. And I think it was expressly to teach this lesson to Pearl that it was included. Again, though, not canon, just my thoughts.

Reym

Amethyst and Pearl being such polar opposites is such a great dynamic, especially given the ways in which they are similar. They're both very stubborn about their way of thinking, and they can let their flaws get the better of them. (They have another fairly large similarity, but while it isn't a plot spoiler I think it's better to discover on your own.) I know it sometimes frustrates people, but I love them FOR their flaws. It makes them such great characters to follow. :D

Mr. Waspman

At 9:20 Actually, the crowd loves Steven and Amethyst, and their methods. They're supposed to boo them. The thing with American wrestling is that it's less of a sport, and more like a weird stage play where all the fighters have elaborate costumes, over the top theatrics, and backstories for their personas. You have the "good guys", and the "heels", the bad guys the audience is supposed to root against. Steven and Amethyst are said heels. The crowd and the other wrestlers KNOW they're going to play dirty and play along with it. Steven was right, it all WAS just playing, and the crowd was in on it. In real life, at least some of the fight, and possibly the outcome is scripted so no one goes too far, and the fans know it's fake. They suspend their disbelief and just enjoy the specticle. Lars however, fully believed the fantasy, and Steven didn't know to dial it back. Disrespecting a fan like that is seen as going too far. THAT'S when Tiger Millionaire stops being viewed as a stage villain in their eyes and starts being seen as an actual jerk.

sydney!

Fun fact! Lion is based on Rebecca's (the creators) pet cat! He has sadly passed away recently though :(

Arianod

I see what you did there ^^

Iruma Mob 100

I just wanted to let you know that some streaming services have some of the episodes out of order which can mess up the plot. So you might want to look up the order or have someone who has seen it do it. If I remember it tends to start 2/3 the way in season 1 and around the beginning of season 2.

AbsurdToastling

"I can't help but smile" Enjoy it while it lasts, Angry Stone Acquaintances is coming, where every episode is written to make you angry in new and intriguing ways

Sanmei

Agreed. Cookie Cat is the real protagonist of this series, if you think about it. That's why we got his full backstory in the first episode! O.o It was too important to just let it trickle in gradually like the rest of the characters.

Sanmei

Nonbinary women unite!

Ríon

Fine if not but: no SU episode this week? They normally come out at 5pm BST on Sundays right? 🤔 Though I know they’ll be changing to Thursdays, probably from next week, we didn’t get one last Thursday, so?.. Fine either way. ;P I just need to stop refreshing Patreon like a mad-man. 🤦‍♂️ …You getting into this show made my Steven Universe Hyerfixation come back, after so many years!! D’: Again: I love how endearing you find Steven, my baby boy. :’( Been rewatching the entire Series this past month. So good. :’3c Also, side note: this show doesn’t do “forshadowing” …it does …TAUNTING. This is a serialised show masquerading as an “episodic”/“monster-of-the-week” show… So, tldr, of COURSE Lion is a one off character. ;3 And no one off character EVER comes back later in this show. 😌✨

Porpoise Power

Steven Universe (the show) is a Intergalactic Rock Opera.

Dinker

That's good. That's really good.

PB

A good rule of thumb in this: the gems don’t care much for human constructs regarding gender. but since they all present as female, they’re all referred to using she/her, and they don’t mind. because to them, it’s a human thing. In real life: I think people would just say which they prefer if asked. Like, if you go up to a costumed wrestler(fem or nb) who is presenting as male and you asked “hey what do I call you”, they’ll probably just say. It is never rude to want people to feel safe in your presence.

Connie Clemons

I watched Steven universe as it came out and I thought it was just a funny show but it has depth as well and just makes the characters feel so different than a lot of the other shows that were played during that time.

Silvered Fox

The charm is a big reason why the show is so loved. It's for sure one of my feel good cozy series to just curl up with and rewatch (or watch someone watch for the first time) and I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Aaron

I’m really enjoying your reaction videos and I bought a subscription to watch to your Steven universe reactions. Not having the songs available on YouTube drove me over here. If you could turn the volume up on the show that’d be great! I’m sure you already have considered it, but in case you haven’t, you might be able to increase your production value (relatively easily) by watching on headphones and capturing your audio separate from the show’s audio.

Taigan

Now having finished the series, can we all agree that Garnet’s “we kept Amethyst” joke was in really bad taste?
