Disney BANNED this!?!

Eliteguard99

Yes Disney unfortunately got cold feet and cut this episode because they were afraid of backlash after (somehow) Mango Mussolini returned. They also cut the blatant trans text in Pixar’s short series Win or Lose and just made it subtext. Win or Lose still REALLY good, and easily worth a watch though.

Craig Rangoon

Whaaaat we're doing Moon Girl?? Heckyeah

Alex Koder

Please watch more Moon Girl. You need to meet The Beyonder. He's wonderfully fabulous.

Serinthia Kelberry

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! And to clarify, they banned this EVERYWHERE. Thankfully some insider leaked it! Everyone please tell everyone to go out and find this episode It is out there, it's just hard to find! Oh, and bonus fact. On another Ep, Moon Girl got her first period. Disney was fine with that episode being aired! (Elijah, please let Mosco clean your desk!)

Miholiday

After receiving so devastating news last night I was sad not getting the next episode of my comfort show, but damn this was soooo good! As a trans person this made so happy to see some great trans representation in sports 😊

SpaceNerd

The episode straight-up wasn't aired or put on D+. The only reason we have access to it is because someone leaked it.

blessedbythemadgod

Great to see you react to this! Would happily watch an entire moongirl reaction series

tom david johansen

kinda reminds me of Iman vs Angela in the ol sports, 26b secunds in and Angela forfeit (think its called)

Annieme

Oh cool! I had never seen moon girl but this was the one episode I was compelled to watch because of the ban (Elijah, pls let mosco clean yr desk)

Mr. Waspman

Thank you so much for watching this! It's a shame Disney had to be their usual selves and and keep this from airing, even on Disney+. Thank goodness it's been leaked. It's honestly one of my favorites of the show, with a message more people really need to hear. I recommend you two check out the rest of the series, too. One of the best things Marvel's ever written.

Ryan

Mosco can clean Elijah's desk. As a treat. Moon Girl was never on my radar, but I think I'll try and nudge my niece to watch it. And I'll make sure she gets to see this episode.

NatMcK7

It's shit like this that I show to my mom when she thinks Disney isn't homophobic because they gave insurance to gay people. Also Elijah please let Mosco clean your desk

Film Vagabond

It’s legitimately brilliant representation but 2025 is a bit of a hellscape for just about anyone who isn’t rich beyond belief. I’m surprised but glad it was made, it proves to me there’s a hope that exists for change strong enough to convince a soulless company to bet on that hope

Ashley Silver

As a trans woman, thank you so much you two for reacting to this, it really means a lot. 💙💖🤍💖💙

Joey Quixote

Thank you for reacting to this! Like you said, this is important media. The representation, the symbolism, the messaging, just... spot on. That their rules lock trans people out of, well, life. The constantly shifting goal posts. And the younger generation stepping up to show their support and acceptance. This was beautifully written and terribly clever in its execution. If you're considering continuing the series (just watching or reacting) I think you'd have fun with it! The stylized action sequences are killer and the soundtrack is incredible (beware of the copyright strikes). Legit, look up the full version of the show's theme song; "Moon Girl Magic" by Diamond White. Incredibly catchy. A true banger of a theme song. Trust me Elijah, there's far worse characters to be compared to than Casey Calderon! She is Moongirl's (Lunella. Yes. The girl with the glasses.) "girl in the chair", as it were. Exudes positivity, high energy, tech savvy, capable, a social media maven, and Lunella's best friend. I think you'd love her. Mosco, I think you need to set up one of those "___ Days since" signs for how long it's been since Elijah cleaned her desk.

Jeal Tar

And people still say Disney cancelling The Owl House wasn't because of the gay. But they do this. They reluctantly include LGBT+ they are not the good guys.

Sam Marsh

In terms of why Disney foolishly decided to ban this episode, it was around the time of the 2024 presidential election, so it seems pretty clear that they didn’t have the back bone to stand up to a hateful bigot like Dumpy Trumpy.

Ashley Silver

The funny thing about the whole sports "issue" is that transmisogyny has become a convenient cover for people who insist that they are beyond competition, skill, and effort. The cis female athletes who are turning their transmisogyny into a profitable grift are always the ones who came in like, last place or fifth place or whatever. They're the type of person who thinks a game is fun if they're the winner. A very sad way to approach a life they clearly will never have.

Elias Cristerna

Episodes similar to your bonus fact were also featured in The Ghost and Molly McGee as well as the Baymax! mini-series.

Eliteguard99

Disney is just a corporation that follows the money, they aren’t anyone’s friend.

JHB

I swear, it seems like so much of the pile of shite some people shovel at others boils down to "I have the whole world sorted out in my head, and YOU aren't in your proper place! GET IN YOUR PIGEONHOLE, DAMMIT!"

Starting out with a disclaimer, I am fully in support of trans women in women's sports, and if there is an unfairness there because of biology (something that has not been proven, because the biological advantages men have over women in athletic competition are 90% because of testosterone) then I support finding a solution for that that is both fair and inclusive. This is just going into the question of "why do we gender sports?" Despite what TERFs crowing about may lead you to believe, it's only partly due to physical differences, and it's funny y'all brought up chess because it's one of the biggest examples. Chess doesn't have a male-only category, there's a women's only division and an open division (presumably many of each, but to my knowledge FIDE only has two major ones). Despite the fact that the open category can be entered by both men and women, and three of the greatest chess geniuses alive are the Polgar sisters, only about 14% of participants in the open division are women, and of the ~2000 Grandmasters, only 42 women hold the title. Only one woman has ever been in the top 10 highest ranked chess players in the world. Because of a combination of cultural norms and stigma in chess communities towards women, there simply aren't very many women playing. Same goes for other sports, most notably in recent years Olympic shooting, where the events are identical and women are very frequently *better* than men competing in the same category in different divisions. Now imagine that, but it's a sport where in order to even get a chance to play, you need a team to field you. Women get passed over for men with fewer qualifications than them constantly in just about every facet of human society, and sports aren't going to be better. Hence, womens' divisions. Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED Talk, Elijah, please let Mosco clean your desk.

JHB

Just to add to the pan-gendering (if that's the right phrase) party, in the original comics (~1978) it was Moon BOY and Devil Dinosaur, with Moon Boy being a kind of ape boy/early human. Basically, the only part of that storyline that ended up in this series was the dinosaur. MG&DD is its own thing.

Tintros

Pretty sure its split for chess (and some other things) because A - The men didn't want to 'lower themselves' to play against girls. And B - It's still illegal some places for women to compete against men in that environment. :( You know, places that might give the president a plane, or get Disney to build a theme park..

Kieran Shae Reacts

I'm a transman and so many of the points you two made are exactly the things I say whenever this issue comes up. It's also so great knowing that both of you support trans people (not that I ever doubted, but sometimes you don't know) and I love knowing that I've chosen good people to follow and be fans of.

iKirbeeburgr

I actually LOVE Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur and i'm so sad it only got 2 seasons, The comedy, animation, music, & representation are all outstanding & i have this episode downloaded on my phone

iKirbeeburgr

Did i say 2 seasons? i meant 3. Also how much would i have to pay? for yall to watch the rest of this show??? i will go the distance if i must, i'll be the load baring banana, i need a reason to rewatch this for the first time vicariously through someone else 😭 i have the whole soundtrack purchased, i Need More Moon Girl Magic 😭

Chris P3

Part of me thinks it could still end up on D+ someday even if it doesn’t air on TV.

Wilhelm Hedin

As a skill thing it's weird. Like, you can be trans and suck at sports. It's true! They make it sound like it's a magical skill enhancer.

Miguel Garcia

Is that a Philip defranco shirt? Cool to see in the wild lol Elijah let Mosco clean your desk!

Wilhelm Hedin

Let Mosco clean your desk Elijah.

beep bop

I cried during this episode. So good man…

DJ Thunder

12:34 Good idea and it can be reality if someone takes the first step. The NFL and NBA has no specific requirement that you have to be male or female, it is just traditionally only been males. We need someone brave enough and good enough to challenege it.

Mark Ten

The culture wars arent about logic, sense or fairness. One side declares victim hood and defies shared humanity.

Xaimon

Here's a random lowkey trans representation we've unknowingly seen in most of our childhoods. The ladybug Francis in Disneys' "A Bug's Life" circa 1998.

Angelus Lupus

Love the trans positivity here! Particularly love the inclusion of non-binary, genderfluid (me!) and intersex people in your ideas on sporting categories! I used to regularly shoot longbow at the marks (distance at a post with points for getting close, and you get to walk around the countryside or the grounds of castles, etc). Less powerful bows usually move slightly closer, with kids going even closer still, so it was all fair regardless of strength/age/etc. Never understood why, when it's the power of the bow/archer that determines the 'handicap' (to borrow a golfing term), the prizes (certificate and kudos) are split into 'Men', 'Women' and 'Child'

Eve

It's so insane to ban an episode that's already been animated and voiced. It got so far and all the expensive parts were done and then suddenly pulled. Truly bullshit.

Someday Sera

In case you were curious, since the episode never really addresses it, the girl with the glasses is indeed moon girl. (the person named "lunella" the friend outside the room was trying to call at one point) IIRC she doesn't have moon powers, she's nicknamed moon girl because she's super smart and geeky which leads her to becoming a sort of tech focused super genius super hero similar to iron man or batman. She accidentally summons devil dinosaur early on, bonds with it, and it becomes a sort of side kick rather than going back to it's own time. Like spiderman and mrs marvel her stories are often her trying to balance being a student and her superhero life. The show is fairly self contained, but Moon Girl is a marvel character and in the comics often interacts with other new york/jersey area heroes like Miles Morales, Khamala Khan (mrs marvel) etc. The character who popped up for a second to explain the key the villain had is the beyonder, one of the major Marvel gods. I don't know a ton about her since I only ever read a handful of the comics and most of the first season of the show, but that's the gist. They are fun if you ever have the time, the rest of the show is excellent as well.

Mr. Waspman

I'd love to see you react to the rest of the show at some point. Maybe after Ducktales is finished? The characters, animation style, story, and especially banger soundtrack seem like something you'd enjoy, as I have.

Tsu Aloe Vera

#protectthemess! Don't back down Elijah, creative clutter FTW!

DoctorAlakazam

Its so funny the girl you said reminds you of Elijah is actually puerto rican just like her. Obviously thats not why you said it, but its a funny additional similarity.

I love you agree with something i mentioned when in the olympics people argued about the trans im boxing: is physics! They have weight rules because physics says that weight and mass equals force. Being man or woman doesnt. People often say men are stronger, but thats because biologically are more often bigger muscles by chance, yes, BUT that means more weight. And boxung has weight categories. So if trans person firs certain categorie, regardless of if is man or woman now or begore, it doesnt really matter because physics says they fit that category because their muscular mass is already givibg them certain strength to punch. People often use this mostly on men who trans to woman sayi g is unfair to non trans woman... until they see other boxi g women and sometimes those beat the trans and they say nothing. And when is backwards they say the trans man who used to be a woman shouldnt be i male categories because causes men to not dight correctly, which by the boxers mouths is BS because they confirmed they fight equally and their oponents fight as hard as them... why? Because physics! Because training! I have seen pro boxers see trans fighting nontrans and confirm the trans won because of tecnique and not because of gender or biology, and sayi g that if they are in the same weight category, gender really doesnt matyer and that there are underground boxing championahips that are gender mixed and they dont care and fight by weight only and they won usually 50/50 because is abouth tecnique and training, not because anything else
