"I wonder if the physics of the guns works differently?" That seems to make sense. That would also explain why Ragatha's gun just did the "boom" flag - she's literally not capable of shooting someone, so the gun didn't.

Really, the only characters we havent seen show signs of abstraction are Kinger and Zooble. Yeah we talked with Zooble with her dysmorphia. But we havent seen her really struggle and panic like we have Gangle and Jax. Ragatha maybe, but that was more the first episode when she was attacked. I worry, if we do get an abstraction, it'll be Kinger, and it would be when hed finally snap during a cohesive moment in the darkness and reveal he was a dev on the game

Might be my favorite episode to date. It's been my experience that 9.8 times outta 10, if someone advertises themselves as a "charming asshole", they're really just an asshole. Jax has that in spades. But I think you hit the nail on the head. He's given up on ever making it back to the real world, so he's embraced chaotic nihilism. I never thought I'd be worried about him, but here we are. Kinger's therapy session with Ragatha is beautiful. I think he saved her from abstracting here. A lot of people needed those words, so I also think Kinger looking right at the camera was intentional. Him hating himself until Ragatha came along though... So she's been here second longest? Zooble is becoming one of my favorites. The way they look out for Gangle is sweet. Jax has really done a number on Gangle though. Poor thing is traumatized at the mere thought of him. Gangle and Zooble both having avatar gimmicks... Makes me wonder why noone else does. I'd just assume to accommodate Zooble's body dysmorphia and Gangle's bipolar depression. I couldn't mark if Gangle's sad mask smiling after she got shot was because she was actually happy for once, or if it was because she was happy she was "dead". Caine messed with Jax's mind again. Something he said he couldn't do... I'd seen a similar image to the one you mentioned, but it was on the person's neck. The image was attached to a phony article about a shampoo recall, likely linked to some spyware laden site. I had this hair that wouldn't stop jabbing me in the back of the neck for the rest of the day and I couldn't stop thinking of that image.

I'm gonna be honest, I really don't buy into the NPC Jax theory. I do think that maybe Kinger and his wife might have been testers for the game since Kinger was said to have been there the longest, and since he has a background in computer development it's not that strange that he'd be part of a team testing for bugs and glitches. Kinger is just the best, too. I love his conversation with Ragatha.

Jax has chosen nihilism to cope because if there’s no consequences in this video game world, he can pretend he’s not trapped; he’s just playing another game. That’s why he was behaving differently in the fast food episode. That adventure got a little too close to reality. If he forms connections with other players he’ll have to 1) acknowledge them as individuals, and 2) face the fact that any of them can abstract at any moment. Pomni calling Jax’s antics out for what they actually are took him out of the game he’s created to survive into the prison that they’re trapped in, which led to the panic attack and near abstraction. Jax is an unbelievably cruel person, but I can recognize a defense mechanism when I see one…. That man is disassociating.

Honestly, I had high hopes for TADC...but now it just feels kinda meh? Beyond the deep analysis stuff...it's just boring to me. I have no desire to rewatch any of it.

Honestly, the writing, animation and pacing of this episode was amazing. Nothing felt forced or out of character, the fact that the guns worked differently for different characters based on their mindsets made sense, and this certainly didn't feel like the longest episode so far. And the part that can really get you thinking? Everyone I've watched this with or reactors who I've watched knows Jax is lying and trying to cover up about accidently starting to care about Pomni without noticing. Everyone so far. So, my question is, was that the show's writing and animation? Or did we, the audience, start to care about Jax without noticing either?

I mean, the whole 'sex' question: Zooble IS based entirely around the idea of swappable, interchangeable parts, so if ever there was an opportunist in the show for that sort of approach, it'd be them. Caine's reaction to that question, however, led me to another thought. If, as the prevailing theory goes, the Digital Circus was originally a type of ELIZA-esque therapy virtual world, having 'rated e for everyone' content filters enabled to begin with was a poor design choice, because, almost by its very nature, effective therapy would require having to discuss some very mature topics. If so, obviously Caine is having difficulties with trying to enable serious mature therapy with such a limiting filter, which would explain how non-kid-friendly things keep slipping through (such as violence, guns, etc.). The Daisy Bell song is also an interesting item to reference, because in addition to its history as being the first song 'sung' by a computer, it was also famously the last words of the classic sci-fi computer, HAL: an AI who went crazy after it was forced to try and resolve conflicting instructions.

In my honest opinion I don’t really love the theory that Jax is a npc bc it dehumanizes him(even tho it seems like he doesn’t want to be reminded of his humanity rn) and kind of takes away from his character as a whole. He’s an asshole yes, but he’s still very much human and him being a npc defeats the purpose of the story Gooseworx is trying to tell us. Like, I’m not saying it’s a stupid theory or anything but it just feels wrong to me, especially after ep6

I haven’t read other people’s theories so apologies if this is just rehashing. 1) why do people think Jax is an NPC? Cane’s blipping Gummygoo out of existence pretty solidly shows that NOCs aren’t allowed to socialize with the players. 2) while I see the logic of this being some kind of therapy program, I don’t buy it. I think that (with the exception of Kinger) none of them are supposed to be in there. Given that Pomni said she was doing urban exploration videos and Ragatha said she worked real estate, I think they all were checking out an old abandoned office complex. They came across a weird headset, tried it on, and whammo. 3) this im less certain of, but its a persistent theory in my head. I think the tragic reveal of the series is that they weren’t digitized into this world, they were copied into it. The mystery headset scanned their brains and created AI copies. Meaning that their “real” selves are still out in the world, unaware of all this going on. It also means there’s no going back for any of them. This is their only world.
