On the one hand, I think this is one of the first episodes to truly show what this show could be. It’s the first musical episode. (All previous songs were just Pinkie being Pinkie) It shows off every character. It has both humor and heart. On the other hand, I can’t get over how the moral seems to be “when you’re incompetent at every aspect of an organization, you get to be in charge!”

When our kids were wee, my wife and I watched this and realized how amazing this show is. Because this episode showed the value of good project management, which is my wife's career. I can't think of any other show, for kids OR adults, that highlighted that quite so much. Also this further demonstrates the weird nature spirit position of ponies in Equestria.

Every time I watch this episode I have the same question. Why do they try to wrap up winter in one day? This feels like a multi day task if they aren't gonna use magic.

In fairness, the cast's general treatment of Spike was the subject of a fair bit of criticism from the fandom and is also going to get addressed a bit in future episodes.

You will get some world building. I know you dont like real spoilers but this is so small it doesn't spoil an storytelling. I always liked the winter wrap up song. When I first drove home from my night shift I was scared of driving by myself in the dark. I played the mlp soundtrack to make myself feel better.

You know, I've never thought about the ship of Colgate/Berry Punch but sure, sounds good to me. Not many, but some ponies have just one name. The ones that you've met so far: Rarity, Celestia, Luna, Trixie, Snips, Snails. It's uncommon though. Also the introduction of the first of fan favorite background pony Derpy's many other names, Ditzy Doo!

Almost everything in Equestria happens because of pony intervention, from the sun and moon rising and falling to seasons changing. Part of what freaks the Mane 6 out about going to the Everfree Forest (where the Elements of Harmony were hidden, and where Zecora lives) is that seasons change on their own, plants grow without help, and so on. :)

Yeah, MLP has plenty of great songs, and Winter Wrap Up was basically the point where they really grabbed the fandom. And if you like gay ponies, pay attention to the benches going forward.

That little part in the song, where Rainbow Dash interrupts Applejack (where you joked they were checking in on a friend wink wink) was apparently scripted only for AJ, but the VA didn't hold the accent/voice for the entire line, hence RD swooping in.

for the mic, it sounds great. only note I have was the floor seems a tiny bit too high and sometimes abruptly cuts the tail of the sound off, but that's minor. Audio in general can be finicky. Thanks for reacting!

Wishing I could magically wrap up winter here in Minnesota, especially as we're due for a lot of snow and it's already started. Oh, well. 2 more months tops. In the meantime, I think this is one of if not my favorite season 1 episode. The song is just chef's kiss!

Congratulations! You will now have that song stuck in your head for the rest of eternity! One of us! One of us! Spread the memetic infection! One of three eps this season that are the most likely to be the one where some says they got fully hooked on the show, the other's being Dragonshy, and one more yet to come. Also a great look at just to what degree Ponies have placed nature on manual control. Now, the question is, was there some reason that they HAD to take over, or did they simply decide they wanted control and so forced nature to submit? For greater fan lore, we have the first appearance of Dinky, one of the cute little foals during the song number, and the fanon daughter to best Pony Derpy! Who got her other name in this ep, Ditzy Doo, because we all knew what Pony went north instead of south. Also some adorable saphic looking mares.... at least one of whom in that scene are canonically gay! Also we meet Caramel, the first stallion who the fandom collectivly looked at and went, "Oh yeah, they are totally gay." Oh, and the mayor's name is Mayor Mare.

2026-09-16 02:00 The tech is somewhat anachronistic but is intended to be roughly victorian era. Twilight is from "canterlot" (camelot), she is therefore a british victorian aristocrat. Of course she will engage in extreme child labor. Its in her blood.

I honestly felt bad for Twilight more than anything. Spike was just making fun of her instead of being supportive. It's hard being the person who doesn't know traditions and trying to find your place.

Welcome to (arguably) the catchiest song in season one. The one everyone hums every now and then even after a decade and a half. While 'Look Before You Sleep' showed the downside of Twilights nerdy side of being so obsessed with lists and procedures to the point of being oblivious, this one showwed how her strong organizational skills can work in a positive light. This was one of the great strengths about the shows writing. Every character has a talent, but also positive and negative aspects of their personality. They started out as architypes in the first episode and gradually grew into three dimensional characters over time. Also Spikes relationship to Twilight is a little more complicated than it appears, but is generally viewed as a positive one. That's all I'll say for now to avoid spoilers.

I must sounds like you're feeling better, but spiked, refusing the dead up. That's me, I don't go to bed until really late and I haven't as well and I take the very different meds just to help me sleep. I wasn't showing a night early this week where I was out of my meds, and I didn't go to bed until almost 9 in the morning, so if you haven't, you know, and I'm a muscle or answer. In 2 different anxiety, meds wonders and one that is legitimately for panic attacks cause I get it's like an Asthma attack trying to pay off attack. That's the best way to tend to strike, but someone in spite like refusing that I bet I'm like, if I'm just on a sleep and you wake me up. No, just no. I'm not dead enough and I sleep with noise-canceling headphones on because I live with cats and 2 dinner pits. It actually explains spike in twilight's relationship further in the season and further in the series sound, but yeah, so sorry having technology issues. I am as well and I'm sorry than post your time in the month. Before you feel better have a great rest of night.Everybody is and love you bye

I'm a naturally dead swimmer, but with swimming with the water it requires fuel. So if it came or something like I stayed in or rolling stayed in, I'd set it, but I'm naturally doing it swimming. I've actually been put in at it since I was a TED a little tend, so I'm pretty good at it. Swimming since I was little Chad and I can't choice women road cold water. And it doesn't really bother me all that much, especially when we get horrendous heat down here. Open essentially a desert and reject horrendous. It gets really bad in the summer and it gets really bad in the winter. The only time I've ever done a middle ground is in the fallen in the spring, but even then we don't like, really bad wind storms and rain storms and stuff like that. In the summers, though, we get really high humidity annually, high winds and yep, really bad wildfires here as well, and the winter, really bad snowstorms set the end of what October the end of November? Sometimes we don't get them as bad until I late December but yeah, the weather is really tricky where I live anyway, sorry to hear about Elijah Lubin, yesterday I know you're probably missing a whole lot. But remember, only couple more months months till you go back down.If there's a home love , you love everybody and yeah

So, this episode actually marks the first proper song we got in the show, other than the theme, of course. Up until this episode, all we'd had were Pinkie's ditties (Giggle at the Ghosties, Pinkie's Parasprite Polka, Evil Enchantress, and the song she sang trying to convince Twilight to give her the Gala ticket). Of the main characters, Applejack and Rainbow Dash, and Fluttershy, retain their main VAs (Ashleigh Ball for AJ and RD, who is the singer for the Canadian band Hey Ocean, and Andrea Libman for Fluttershy), whereas Pinkie, Rarity and Twilight don't. Oddly enough, Pinkie shares her regular VA with Fluttershy, but Pinkie's singing style/range wasn't comfortable for Andrea, so her singing voice is Shannon Chan-Kent. Tara Strong can sing, but she does most of her recording in LA, but the show and specifically the songs were recorded in Canada, so for Twilight, they brought in Rebecca Shiochet (you'll hear her really stretch her singing (and speaking) VA chops in the Equestria Girls films, specifically from the second one onwards). And, Rarity's VA Tabitha St. Germain, as far as I'm aware, doesn't do any singing, so pretty much every character she voices in the show (which is quite a few) has a different singer. In Rarity's case, that falls to Kazumi Evans (also a talented singer/VA who really gets to show off in the second Equestria Girls film). Then, there are other characters who show up later in the season whose VAs (Michelle Creber, Claire Corlett and Madeleine Peters) are all decent singers as well (Michelle sings for her own character AND Claire's character at the beginning, but Claire eventually took over the singing for her own character as well). And, last but not least, there are also some VAs/singers who only appear once or twice but who really steal the show when they get to sing, such as Lena Hall, Aloma Steele, and Weird Al Yankovic, but they'll come later. Of the main cast, I'd say Ashleigh is the best singer, with Rebecca, Andrea and Michelle very close behind, but that's just my opinion.

The male pony with the hourglass was originally named Time Turner, but he was renamed to Doctor Whooves sometime later and was basically made into a parody of the Doctor, the main character from Doctor Who. Meanwhile, the sapphic-looking ponies in the song were Berry Punch (the purple one with grape cutie mark) and Minuette (the light blue one who also had an hourglass). And yes, that one moment did cause a lot of shipping...but nothing was really confirmed between those two specifically. That said, if you want some sapphic ponies, keep an eye out for Lyra Heartstrings (a teal-coloured pony, the same one in fact who sat like a human on a bench in the dragon episode), and Bon Bon (a pony with half dark blue and half pink hair), who pretty much always appear next to each other in the background, and are very clearly more than just friends.

This episodes has one of the best songs of the entire show. Almost all the music in the series is done by composer Daniel Ingram, and his work is one of the big reasons why MLP FiM is so popular. His songs are extremely catchy and well written, and you'll get to hear more later 😁 .

I think it's important to point out that there is a difference between 'Magic' as its talked about in this episode and a unicorn pony using their horn to grab things here and there. The show and the pony's treat a unicorn using their horn to hold things or grab things as like a limb. It's apart of their habits and how they interact. It's apart of them, its instinctual. But when they are discussing 'Magic' its normally them specifically talking about spells, stuff you have to learn and study and practice. Notice when Twilight gave into the urge to use magic is was specified as a "come to life spell" not just her using her horn to assist in pushing.

I'm glad you're coming to the side of "Spike doesn't deserve most of the crap he goes through". Like, for his joking at Twilight's expense and throwing her under the bus when it's revealed she used magic, falling into the lake alone would be punishment enough, but getting a cold because of it was just overkill IMO.

One issue the show tends to have with Spike is that it's never really sure how to treat him. He was originally designed to fill the role as Twilight's animal familiar, like a witch/talking cat dynamic. This carries through a lot in early episodes despite him being shown just as sapient as any of the pony characters. He tends to just go back and forth between literal servant/animal familiar, baby brother your mom forced you to bring to hang with your friends, and occasionally a full character with an episode to himself. I think it's one of the flaws of originally thinking this was just gonna be a show for little girls, and the fans wouldn't care about the male characters being well written.

Notice that most unicorns are on the animal team. Helping to organize the animals during Winter Wrap-Up is how unicorns help without magic. It's also a good place for ponies whose skills may not be as sharp as others in their more traditional roles.

12:05 You've just hit upon a debated topic among the brony fandom. How do ponies manage without hands? Especially, Earth Ponies. Most believe hooves, like hands, have some ability to grab things, while others have suggested special devices. I personally lean towards the first. We do know that Ponies do not have the same anatomy as our earth horses. For example, horses can't throw up, so the baked bads should've been a death sentence. These differences most likely stem from each pony's innate magic.
