Hello there Moscow I am enjoying this. I hope you’re having a wonderful week.

Michael W

Anne has two big flaws. The first one we see today is her selfishness, which to be fair is typical of teenagers. Fortunately unlike a lot of characters we meet Anne tends to learn her lessons a lot quicker. The 2nd big flaw, you may have caught a glimpse of in episode 1B. It will show itself more in future episodes. Also Anne and Sprig make a great human big sister/non human little brother pairing.

LAN

Ahhh don’t you love this adorable sweet light hearted show where nothing ever goes wrong!

LAN

It’s all fun and games until Moscow relizes that the reason Anne opened the box was because Anne’s mom was in a car accident and she accidentally killed a person. And that’s why they were stealing the box, because they wanted to sell it it to pay back the money. 💰

Meãjay

To add on what you said at the end, the show is the least popular when it comes to the big 3 story driven Disney series. However that honestly makes the show look better than you would expect. Yes it’s honestly the most episodic of the 3 but I truly believe it’s one of this shows biggest strengths. Believe it or not, you’d be surprised how many people prefer this over The Owl House. You’ll understand as you go deeper into the series, but it really is an unforgettable journey. Also I am about to start RWBY myself. On the very low chance that you might see this: Do you believe it’s worth the watch?

Michael W

Yes, absolutely nothing ever goes wrong 🎃

Eliteguard99

Mosco talking about how hand-holdy modern games are reminds me of why I disliked Legend of Zelda Twilight Princesses so much.

Wee Lass Reacts

YES ITS WORTH THE WATCH :3 Stick with it, its silly good fun and give it 3 volumes at least

Meãjay

Okay I need that reassurance because I watched the Color Trailers (I understand what RWBY stands for now lol) and I enjoyed it. I wanted to watch it sooner but unfortunately I got exposed to the fandom (thankfully nothing spoiler worthy) before the show. People saying it peaked at volume 3 or the characters and certain plot lines are wasted potential, all the typical stuff from a popular fandom. So it kinda scared me to give it a chance. It’s dumb I know. The plan was to give the first 3 volumes a shot and give volume 4-6 a chance and if I like what I’m watching I’ll keep going so I can see what the popularity/ “controversial” stuff is all about. Thank you, I needed a non biased answer and you seem like the type of person who gives fair and “Straight” answers 😂.

Geass

Red leg is very real. It kills tons of frogs every year.

Corvo Joka

The Decline in Intelligence isn't due to games tho. It's the screen time, so Social Media, Chat GPT, all the Algorithms that take over the thinking for ya, the way short form content is basically tailored to support the decline of attention spans as well as how movies accommodate that, by spelling out everything that's happening. The consumer/audience aren't given the chance to actually take anything in and properly think about it.

The Akimbo Knight

Trust me when I say this the people who say it peaked then went downhill after vol 3 don’t know what they are talking about. If anything the volumes afterwards add so much depth to every character the animation gets so much smoother and the dynamics get more amazing

RaisedEyebrow

That Painting you're talking about is American Gothic, by Grant Wood. And yeah, it gets parodied a LOT! My favorite is from the song Iowa in Music Man!

Raine

Really glad you're enjoying the show!

Joey Quixote

Looks like you've already recorded episode 9 for next week. Nice! The first 20 episodes that are season 1 are flying by. Glad you're having fun! The story is excellent, but even the one-off episodes are funny and entertaining. Most shows like this scatter the lore throughout (like last week's episode) and / or save it for key episodes in the lineup. Like the season finalé or the mid-season episode. But I digress. "Contagi-Anne" We've all played hooky. But a lie is always caught. Anne pays for deceit. -I took a lot of "sick days" in gradeschool. Mostly because my peers sucked. I was taking mental health days before that was a thing. Who knew? Probably my parents. -You missed the mushroom? Mosco, I don't know if you know this, but EVERYTHING in animation is done for a reason! Dunno where I heard that before... -The mushroom Anne cooked was used to clean Bessie's stable... I don't think y'all are "regular sick". -The springs come back in a major way when Mayor Toadstool tries to turn it into a resort! The only way to stop these greedy developers is to beat them in a game of basketball! Hey! There's nothing in the Amphibia Basketball rules that a human can't play! "Family Shrub" To know where you're from Can be a blessing or curse. Make your own story. -Mosco going full "When I was your age!" 😅 To be fair, there is a term, "Nintendo hard", which denotes the difficulty of games of that generation. Strategy guides really only existed for larger titles, and even those didn't really hold your hand. The rental market needed games to be difficult so you couldn't complete them in a weekend. -Polly's warrior instincts run in her blood. Scientists, adventurers, explorers, etc. Lots of interesting women in her lineage if you leaf through their history. -Anne finds herself represented in the Plantar family history by a newt! Which is ironic because she's... *newt* to this world! Eh? Eh? Seriously though, there's not just frogs in Amphibia. Newts too. And others you have yet to meet.

Iago24

Also, children get marketed digital content way too young. Infants and toddlers need tactile experiences to learn how to interact with the world, but way too many parents have them playing on tablets, instead.

MaoDoodles

I'm honestly surprised people say Amphibia isn't as "good" as TOH and GF because it's my favorite of the three lol

Verdigree

In a sense, this show is like The Owl House’s cousin, it’s from the same time and there’s lots of similarities and big differences

Corvo Joka

Oh yeah, that's a big issue as well.

xattygt

Same here. Its under underrated.

ArcticBanana

1:55 - "I really highly doubt that we're gonna dive back in with the lore of the show." You don't realize it yet (and that's by design), but you've been getting bits of lore in pretty much every episode, the show just hasn't given you any context for any of it yet. If the pacing seems a little weird, that's because it is. It's an acknowledged problem with Season 1. When Disney was first airing the show, they aired new episodes *daily*, not weekly (it's almost as though Disney was rushing to get through the first season before they started airing season 1 of The Owl House). The pacing gets better with Seasons 2 and 3 when they went back to the weekly format. Personally, I'd have to say Amphibia is my personal favorite of the "Disney Trio". Gravity Falls and The Owl House are fantastic, but there's something about Funny Frog Show that edges it out in the lead for me. Maybe it's because it covers some darker and more serious subjects than the other two, but I don't know.

xattygt

Very hot take but I actually like this show a bit better than gravity falls and the owl house. I also honestly find most of the "filler" in amphibia to be more entertaining than the owl house and gravity falls. Owl house only has like 3 filler episodes in season One and most would agree they are quite weak and most of the season 2 filler episodes in gravity falls was by far the weakest of the series.

Brendon J. Dube

The shrub episode reminds me of a later one where the Plantars travel to Mammalia and get trapped in an old abandoned factory that made killer robots. Of course sprig can't resist pulling a lever, which boots up all the sleeping bots

Joey Quixote

The first 3 volumes are like floating down a narrow river that's picking up speed as it reaches its destination. Volume 4 you hit the open ocean. Slow at first, but there's a lot more going on.

Rixec2

Just wait until you learn the pumpkin monster breaks free and devours the house, forcing everyone to move into it in order to have a roof over their heads.

SauceyRed

Heh... I see what you did there in the Polly instincts part lmao

SauceyRed

The Owl House is my favorite show of all time, surpassing my previous favorite, Gravity Falls, while Amphibia is third now in my top 3. A big reason for it is that there are a lot more episodes, and so a lot of them are "filler," which I don't find as exciting on rewatches compared to Gravity Falls and The Owl House, but especially TOH since it arguably only has a few filler episodes. I'm not a huge fan of episodic stuff/slow plot progression (which is why if I watch reactions to a show like Steven Universe or Adventure Time, I'm likely to do so on 2x speed, at least early on lmao). BUT! In Amphibia it does ramp up as it goes, there's a reason it's even comparable to GF and TOH (at least for me), let alone in my top 3. I'm so glad we got TOH and Amphibia as a package when they were announced, incredibly good shows with a lot of similarities but also big differences.

josh

i wouldn't completely dismiss games as a factor, there is a major difference in the stuff we played growing up vs the stuff these kids are playing on their tablets especially on roblox where anyone can make a game

Yoshinatorsaurus

Yeah, the sheer number of World building episodes in season one is honestly the biggest barrier of entry for this show, and why some reactions like Morgan's and Elijah's skip it almost entirely. I've even heard people call them "filler." But in my opinion, the episodes are still a lot of fun and important for Anne's early character growth. Plus, let's just say most come back in some way. I'm glad you're enjoying them.

Corvo Joka

Oh you're right. I didn't take into account, that kids would have different tastes in games than I did as a kid and do today. Like you said Roblox, or stuff like Fortnite or Tablet/mobile Games - I can see how those have a negative impact on the intelligence.

Charlie Odinoco

I really dislike that word in the context of western cartoons, even if something isn't influential to the main story line, it doesn't mean it's pointless to see, after all, I watch a show for the characters.

Charlie Odinoco

The 6 hour tutorial does not help I'll give you that

Charlie Odinoco

Amphibia comes from the Gravity Falls School of Animation, which if I remember correctly crumbs the story very sparingly in its first half in order to build a strong character foundation that can be explored in the future.

Eliteguard99

Skyward Sword somehow managed to be even worse.

Eliteguard99

I once tried to get my (at the time) 10 year old stepbrothers to play Tetris a decade ago. I thought to myself “it’s Tetris, everybody loves Tetris, it’s the safest video game of all time”. I got them to play it but they instantly complained that they “didn’t know what to do” and that Tetris was “too hard to understand”.

Charlie Odinoco

Well if the second flaw is what I'm thinking of, we do see it somewhat in Contagi-Anne, considering how Anne's eagerness to climb the Mountain made it so they didn't stop to read the next page of the book

Henkotron

One of the Plantar's ancestors was a super high society political figures and caused the inhabitants of Amphibia to fall back to the level of technology and progress we see in the show.

Yoshinatorsaurus

Exactly. That's why it's in quotations. I don't believe the term should exist. Every episode from this story driven era of cartoons is important in one way or another. And even if they're not, they're still entertaining.

marauderluverz (Luci)

Finally got caught up on your amphibia reactions. I have to say that amphibia definitely has more world building that makes it feel slower going in the beginning but id also argue that what amphibia has in "filler" type episodes is what most shows nowadays are missing. They give us 8 episodes with plot/major storylines crammed into every second and dont give us a minute to breathe. I enjoy amphibia a lot because of that. Really enjoying the reactions and im so glad you are enjoying the characters and mystery of it all.

Riot!!!

Red leg comes back in a tragic way when they discover humans can catch it too, won't spoil to much though! (Seriously glad you're enjoying Amphibia, it's my all time favorite show, I'm currently "making" my friend watch it with me very slowly)

PerpetualGMJohn

You absolutely *can* have filler in western cartoons like this, but I don't think what Amphibia's doing qualifies. I think it means the episode has no plot relevance *and* doesn't really do anything for the characters/world. I like to call things like this or most of early Steven Universe "shenanigans episodes" instead of "filler'. They're mostly episodic shenanigans that individually don't do much, but they're either dropping story morsels or doing good character development or world building. Any single episode could be removed/replaced and things wouldn't change much, but collectively they work together to make the character changes/moments come those big story episodes feel more earned.
