I’m sure everyone within the community has already made it known to you but if there’s 1 thing you gotta know: When it comes to Pinkie Pie, Don’t Question It. And this episode is the epitome of that statement lol.

Justin Riley

When it comes to Pinkie Pie: Don't overthink it.

Justin Riley

Next week: the second gayest episode of season 1.

Taigan

I have never seen a list of “Worst MLP episodes” that didn’t include this one. It wasn’t always #1. But it’s always there.

DominusInFortuna

I think when Twilight say "Our full concentration" she just means that if he gets distracted, it distracts her in return resulting in... Well, rock on the noggin.

Cheezzet

First Derpy catch

Stellar Kruize

I still get Evil Enchantress stuck in my head from time to time lol

JHB

Short version of "When Pinkie Pie is Pinkie Pie-ing..." -> "Forget it, she's rolling"

Cheezzet

That sounds weird to me because I would not evee place this one anywhere even NEAR that list, and I'm not the biggest fan of the first two seasons

A.B.

8:46 OMG I just realize Twilight was literally getting on her soapbox lmao

JHB

Twilight isn't sneaking UP on ponies, she's sneaking AROUND one particular pony. The difference is... ah... umm... A VERY IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE!

Tim Sammuals

Best part of the episode 16:23. The Queen graces the episode with her presence.

JHB

"What happened to your eyes, girl?" Congratulation! She's been mentioned previously in the comments (due to unremarkable earlier appearances), but you've finally took notice of Derpy, the background pony whose animation mistake became her character trait.

Vivienne

“Who is the princess of the sun? Your mom???”

MattTOB

Like, it's a good plot overall; it's just that the moral has weirdly religious undertones, and could open you up to harm if you actually try and apply it to real life. "There are many mysterious things in this world that you can't explain, but that doesn't mean they aren't true! Sometimes, it just takes a friend to show you the way. *So the next time a Jehovah's Witness knocks on your door--"*

MattTOB

Why? Why must you do that? That doesn't even make any sense in context of this episode; you're just spoiling jokes for spoiling's sake!

morthasa

Twilight often behaves like high INT low WIS, but I'd argue she actually have a decently high WIS score. She just occasionally forgets she does.

SoaringJe

That gray pegasus is named Derpy in the fandom (and officially Muffins because there was a whole thing) She’s one of the Background 6 (counterpart to the Mane 6)

Faroth

Derpy, also known as Muffins and Ditzy Doo or Derpy Hooves by the fandom

LAN

The reason pinkie pie has these powers is because her family are fortune tellers. They use dark magic on themselves so they can tell what is going to happen by what their bodies do. However in order to keep these powers they got cursed. THEIR ENTIRE LIVES THEY HAVE TO ACT LIKE ENERGETIC TWO YEAR OLDS! That is why pinkie pie is the way she is. Sorry about the spoilers!

Jasmine

7:45 my one thing has always been like.... okay how did we get to this episode without a single observable twitch / combo Getting on her soapbox lol 10:00 i kinda would be interested 10:48 yeah i didnt realize the fitst time i watched

Faroth

Pinkie Pie = Cartoon of the WarnerBros / Looney toon

Jacob Redmon

The first proper appearance of Derpy!

Peter Marvy

The soapbox gag went waaaay over my head when i was younger. Man, i love when Twilight is a bit mean and stubborn. Again, its nice that those characters are allowed to be so inperfect Speaking of this: i forgot about Celestia at the end of this episode. Incredible. This is a joke i would expect from fan content. I thought in this early seasons they treated Celestia more seriously but now i see i remembered it wrong. Honestly it is pretty cool, she have this god-queen thing going on but it doesn't stop the show getting little silly with her

Aaron

Oh gurl, get your mlp notepad ready... just in case yk?

Stellar Kruize

Twilight fits the phrase, "smartest dumb person I know," in this episode lol

Flufux

Oh yeah, the cross-eyed pony who dropped all of those stuff on Twilight, that's just Derpy. She's been in the background all along, is in nearly every episode of the show, and became a huge fan favourite.

Jennifer Dawes

And this episode is just about where everyone watching the show decides to not question Pinkie Pie. Just like Mosco here, and Twilight in the episode.

Eternity

now you get to see that even earth ponies have some form of magic

Willow 404

16:20 DERPY HAS BEEN NOTICED Shipping Fuel & Crumbs this Episode! Twipie: This entire episode was dedicated to Twilight understanding her girlfriend better, frfr Twidash: 24:08 Twilight thinking about Rainbow Dash as probably the bravest pony she knows Feel free to reply with any scenes I missed that fueled your favorite ships!

JHB

"Comfort show" is a very good description of this show's appeal. It punches above its weight, but given its official target audience, even its darkest turns are never TOO dark.

JHB

Magic is as magic does, and even Earth Ponies have their own form of magic, even though it isn't the glowy kind that unicorns use. And Pinkie's version is so powerful that she's the only pony who could [spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers], and it also makes her the show's official fourth-wall breaker.

DeViruZz.eXe

"Feeling Pinkie Keen" is one of those episodes that finally gives proper shape to what Pinkie Pie had already been hinting at from the start: she does not only just act random all the time, she seems to run on a completely different kind of logic, that is neither fully identifyable nor perceivable. With the introduction of "Pinkie Sense", that cheerful absurdity additionally gets turned into an actual character-defining trait. What had previously looked like pure nonsense is also reframed into a bizarre inner system of twitches and feelings that somehow works, making her even more chaotic as she already is. This is exactly why the episode became one of the biggest reasons people in the fandom say "don't question Pinkie Pie". She simply operates on a level where trying to pin her down too hard almost feels like an impossible task. And that works so well because Pinkie represents the absurd, elastic, almost cartoonish side of the show anyway. The toonish slapstick in this episode really sells that: all the falling objects, the exaggerated payoffs, Pinkie's body-language comedy, and Twilight getting increasingly battered by reality itself make the whole thing feel close to Looney Tunes at times. It underlines how Pinkie does not just feel energetic or silly, but almost like a character who bends the rules of the setting and occasionally gets suspiciously close to outright cartoon logic or even 4th-wall territory. 😅 What makes the episode especially interesting is that it sets up a clash between two completely opposite worldviews. On one side there is Twilight, with her rational, systematic, proof-driven mindset, and on the other is Pinkie, who just accepts that some things happen because they happen, while it all happens around her. Twilight's role is great here because her scientific brain is not wrong in itself, but it becomes her weakness: she gets so focused on disproving Pinkie and forcing everything into a framework she understands, that she gets stuck on entirely the wrong thing. It also shows a smaller but important side of her character, namely that she can be rigid, a little too sure of her own framework, and surprisingly closed-off when something does not fit it. Luckily here she learned to be more accepting and open-minded about unexplainable occurrences. But this message also got often misunderstood by some people - Taken the wrong way, it can sound like "faith beats evidence", well which is... not a great takeaway... 😮‍💨 But I do not think the episode is really anti-science so much as anti-closed-mindedness. Twilight's problem is not that she uses reason, but that she keeps refusing to adjust her view even after repeated evidence that Pinkie Sense consistently works. The episode does not necessarily say the phenomenon is forever beyond explanation, only that Twilight cannot explain it yet. It is more about accepting that life is not always fully legible on your own terms, not about saying evidence does not matter. Even the shows creator Lauren Faust later said she wished she could have clarified that message better. And aside from all that, the episode is just really memorable on a pure entertainment level. It is very funny, gives us Gummy's (Pinkies Pet) first appearance, and even throws in that surprisingly exciting Hydra climax, which is another nice bit of Greek mythology and a reminder that this show can jump from slice-of-life comedy into actual adventure whenever it wants. --- Now time for some Fun-facts, thoughts and addressing your questions / observations: 6:00 "When Pinkie Pie is Pinkie Pie-ing, you don't question a Pinkie Pie-ing Pinkie Pie-ing-ness." Wow... you arrived to that conclusion all on your own 😁 - great tongue-breaker btw. 🤣 6:50 Dang it you are on fire with your remarks here... "she [Pinkie] is her own superpower" - There's nothing to deny here 👀😋 16:15 About her eyes: this is one of the first clearly intentional appearances of Derpy, the grey Pegasus seen after the falling piano scene. By then, she'd already become a fan favourite thanks to the animation error in the pilot that gave her those now-iconic crossed eyes, turning a simple mistake into one of the show's most beloved background quirks. Fans quickly embraced her under names like "Derpy Hooves" and "Muffins", while originally named "Ditzy Doo", which came up within the "Winter Wrap Up"-episode as the "featherbrain" who flew the wrong way. Part of what made her so special was that she came to feel like more than just a funny background character - she felt like one of the earliest little signs that the staff had noticed the fandom and were willing to play along, even reportedly revising this particular shot to keep the crossed-eyed look on purpose. From there, spotting Derpy in the background became its own kind of "Where's Waldo" game for fans, and every appearance only made her feel more iconic as a recurring symbol of the fandom. 25:55 I love how they inlculded that continuity here which originated within the "Dragonshy" episode - Fluttershy did improve, even citing Pinkies little song! 27:30 My little Ponitaaa! 27:40 You doing that frame by frame had me waaay too much laughing... 🤣 30:35 I love it when Celestia came down... this was soo surprising and funny. 31:30 We all feel with you here - Hope it all gets better! ❤️

Faroth

This is not intelligence vs wisdom, this is wizard vs bard Intelligence casting by deconstructing a spell vs the bard 'feeling the magic' with charisma

iCommentToPlay

I've forgotten how many cartoon jokes and logic are in this episode!!

Jared Bichler

8:48 And, Twilight gets on her soapbox.

Jared Bichler

16:33 That's how she earned the name, "Derpy" among the fandom—usually portrayed as a buffoonish but extremely caring pony.

Jaina Shadows

TwiPie is science girlfriend vs astrology girlfriend.

Lilac Chimera

Feeling Pinkie Keen: Feeling peachy keen = fit as a fiddle = right as rain etc. Just another saying for “doing great!” But now with Pinkie! Yeah as a long time fan, idk why Spike needed to focus on the spell. Other than the fact that he might have distracted Twi by looking away? Idk The Pegasus with the lazy eye is Derpy! She was an animation error in the first episode, and fans got extremely attached and threw a fit when the show wanted to “fix” her. Now she’s a real character! This is the episode that truly solidified the “don’t question Pinkie Pie” mindset. Sometimes she knows or does things she has no right to, and that’s none of our business lol

RaisedEyebrow

The cute cross-eyed Pegasus appeared in an earlier episode. Her crossed eyes were an animation error. But the team loved it so much, they kept her as-is! She crops up from time to time! Also, love how you AND Twilight have the exact same reaction regarding the "doozy!"

Josh Hunt

I love that Twilight gets on a literal soap box to talk about how magic works

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah, as we saw he gets distracted and says something(hey look at pinkie) which distracts Twi which ends up with spike suffering 🤣

lumarie

twilight is my fav pony out of the main 6 but its been a long time since ive seen the early seasons so i forgot what an A-hole she can be but i promise she gets better after season 3 :') she's my fav but i will admit her wrongs

Lester Wiggins

Exhibit B of the old brony phrase: “It’s Pinkie, don’t question it.”

Seraphem

Ah yes, this ep.... The main example of why you NEVER question The Pink One! Also one that kind of got a lot of flak when it aired because the way the moral was presented make a lot of people think it was doing a kind of 'science is bad" type thing with Twilight giving up on understanding something and simply accepting it, especially with the term 'leap of faith' put in it gave a kind of science versus religion feel. Something both Dave Polsky (the writer) and Lauren Faust apologized for not better conveying the idea and giving that impression. In other, better news, we have the full, official debut of Best Pony.... Derpy Hooves! The grey, wall-eyed pegasus mare. Way back in ep 1, for a brief moment there was a shot of her in background with those eyes, something that was due to an animation error (though there is conflicting accounts on what the error was, I've heard both her having derpped eyes was the error, and that the eye thing was a joke one of the animators intentionally added, but she was supposed to be hidden behind another pony, and the error was that pony not showing up.) Either way, she became a hit with the fans and was largely adopted as the symbol for the early fandom, something the crew picked up on and started intentionally including her, with her derpped eyes in the show as a nod to the fans.

Tayga Fireclaw

As we always say....Never question Pinky Pie , she's a mini god at this point.💓🩷

DiamondDawg

The Crossed eyes pony is Derpy, What once started as an animation error in the 1st episode became a fandom icon and the crew decided to keep the crossed eyes.

Joey Quixote

Ah, yes. Intelligence vs. Wisdom. I might also argue Wizard vs. Sorcerer, although Sorcerer is Charisma based. Wizard being ability earned through study, while Sorcerer is just natural talent. I'm enjoying the show so far! The moving van joke was so fucking good! Pinkie has shot up the ranks in my favorite of the Mane 6.

KylarStern1995

First, yes never doubt the pinkie pie SHE SEES YOU. Second it seems that twilight has not been taught magical combat. Though Nightmare moon didn't use magic to fight really either except one thunderbolt. Still that shows magic can be used for direct combat and yet when face with mortal danger the instinct is to flee rather than attack with magic even as a distraction.

Luís Pacheco

I may not always understand her, but man, I do love Pinkie Pie

Cjwazhere

Derpy finally getting some attention

Drakin Kovar

16:28 Mosco, meet Derpy Hooves, AKA Ditzy Doo (officially Muffins according to Hasbro). A fan favorite. Cool fact, her look comes from the fact that way back in the first episode during the party scene she was a background character, but the animators forgot to move one of her eyes when the camera shifted. Her 'derped' eyes (like the meme) caused her to get the name. Since then she has been portrayed by fans as an honest, innocent, but extremly klutzy individual who tries hard but often screws up. When the animators discovered how much fans liked her they began hiding her in some (but not all) episodes as a littl easter eggs for fans to find. Like a 'Where's Waldo/Wally' game.

Athalia

They kill pinkie a bunch of times. In one episode its because she fails to stare at paint drying

BGTitan

Truly, the one sure fire rule: Never question Pinkie Pie.

Yhelta

When asked what she's up to Pinkie responds "Nothing, yeas. Pinkie maintains the innocence"

MattTOB

The "Where's Derpy" thing was most common throughout Season 2, though it still did happen occasionally afterward (such as the Season 3 finale, where she appears 5 times - one of which, she's winking directly at the camera).

MattTOB

My personal headcanon is that her spell was specifically making the outfit *he* was imagining into a reality, so him losing concentration would directly affect the outcome.

Michael Gulick

I REALLY love how Mosco has that outro explaining why she loves the show so much, because she is 100% also speaking for me, and I know she is also speaking for so many other bronies and pega-sisters out there, as well.

Diana Alexandra Cardona Jaramillo

Derpyyy, my cutie pie. Finally. I love how she is basically like all of us. Finding the background ponies that made the fandom grow.

DKscribe88

It was said in the Death Battle series that Pinkie Pie has similar powers to Deadpool, definitely recommend you watch that video, but not until you get through the series. Spoilers...Anyway! Specifically, she has the power to break physics and reality, among various other abilities. That's why she can duplicate herself, form more limbs, etc. Always best to just not question what she's doing but go with it and have fun.

Kerry Wilson

“It’s Pinkie Pie. Don’t question it.” -Joshcorcher Words that’ll help you keep your sanity while watching this show. 😂😂😂

Rixec2

Pinkie Pie is a delicate character to write for. There is a method to the madness, but some can tend to lean too far into the randomness where it can get more annoying for some people at times.

Mictla

Twilight trying to figure out Pinky Pie well not stop being funny. All these years later it is still fun to watch.

Neetaku

12:06 "Did YouTube plan this", please insert whatever issue they're hitting you with today. 15:50 I know its a stretch, but totally a referring to Alfred Hitchcock's classic "Rear Window".
