I really like that they showed Poseidon sending a great big water tentacle reaching up to grab Percy and pull him into the Mississippi, because IIRC in the book he just happened to fall in despite the Gateway Arch being something like 250 meters from the river

So the reason you don't remember the conversation on the train is that it's an adaptational change. In the books, nothing of consequence happens on the train and they instead have a long layover in St. Louis, and Annabeth makes the boys go to the Arch not because it's a safe place, but because she's a massive architecture nerd. I'm not actually going hard against a lot of the changes that have been made to the series so far, I'm not a purist, but this is one I actually don't personally like because in the book it was meant to showcase that a) Annabeth is, for all that she's a seasoned demigod, also twelve and b) Annabeth's fatal flaws of hubris and ambition.

While it's true that Percy is the most *likely* one to be helped by a god...I don't think he was considering that at the time. That was pure sacrifice for his friends.

Have you seen the Netflix's adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events as that is book adaptation with the author's input I think came out good.
