I literally got the notification for this in the middle of wondering when the next Media Club Plus would drop, and THEN I saw it was the long-anticipated JoJo ep and my car could not contain the force of my shriek

Ada Powers

…yes, Keith was right and predicted this (29:40)

Upped my patreon level entirely just for this, very excited. Also rewatched these episodes in anticipation and I think Sylvi has made a great choice - part 3 is fine but she is correct that part 4 is the best one in terms of character, pacing, artstyle (the purple hills and yellow Morioh sky just really works for me!)

Proxy

Such a fun episode. Sylvi did a great job hosting and choosing which episodes to watch for this!

Fully crying at the idea of jumping from Let's Eat Italian Food to Yoshikage Kira Wants To Live Quietly. Just. Talk about seeing the tonal breadth of the show

Jack describes Crazy Diamond as looking like a gay transformer as if every transformer isn't a gay transformer. But for real though great episode. If y'all intend to watch more Jojo in the future you should heavily consider doing the 1993 OVA (there's actually 2 OVA series but the second one from 2000 adapts a chunk of part 3 that happens earlier in the fictional chronology than where the 1993 series beings). That series is a really tightly condensed version of wildest stuff in Jojo part 3 and there'd be a lot to discuss in how stylistically different it is from the contemporary anime. The 93 OVA also has an episode written, directed, and story board by legendary animator the late great Satoshi Kon who's the director of Perfect Blue, Paprika, and Tokyo Godfathers.

Need the "what is a stand" section if there are more jojos episodes

Thank you Jack for adding Big Boy Realm Theory to the canon of MCP lore alongside Demon World Theory. Can't wait to see what other worlds, realms, planes and dimensions get added in future seasons!

The Takashi Miike flick is clipped, but fun! Worth your time!

I could immediately tell that Koichi was going to get a stand because of the hold frames from the intro where they edited out Koichi's stand.

I know this is the weirdest way to learn this but I thought Jack's name was spelled Jaque until today...................... I have bought bandcamp music from them and never noticed.

On the subject of "what does Araki have against dogs?" (because the track record of the show is such that a popular JJBA podcast is called "Dogs Must Die"), my understanding is that he was asked this in an interview and he said basically "I actually love dogs a lot, which is why I see it as such a strong example of 'what could I make a character do to IMMEDIATELY communicate they are irredeemable dirtbags?'" In other words, confirming what one of the friends mentions about the storytelling adage of "save the cat, kick the dog".

Re: the BILLION and TRILLION on the Nijimura's outfits, their names have the characters for those numbers respectively, the "oku(億)" in Okuyasu and the "cho(兆)" in Keicho

There is a game/podcast called "Eidolon: Become your best self " which is a game to make JoJo and uses tarot deck as a resolution mechanic I would love to see it played by Friends at the table.)"

I'm so happy y'all are watching some JoJo's, I read the manga to completetion in 2011 and it broke my brain for a few years. I wanted to let y'all know an intersting fact Araki brings up in his book on creating manga "Manga in Theory and Practice" and also in interviews he's said multiple times how inspired he is by western horror movies and how he intesntionally utilized that style of tension in his stand battles. So ya'll calling back to the 'haunted house story' and the disturbing imagery is very much intentional. Keep up the great work!

Big Boy design thoughts: they look like Tom of Finland drawings

Part 4 is also the first one I watched, but for completely different reasons. What made me give JoJo a chance at all was an article on animefeminist .com about the character Reimi Sugimoto called "Reimi is Unbreakable: Female empowerment in Diamond is Unbreakable"

"Big show about big big boys" is perfect tho
