Happy to have Ali back to complete her Talking About Kite trilogy!

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us.

Well it wouldn't be an episode of the Chimera Ant arc if it wasn't full of the weirdest, wildest shit yet. And that's certainly true for this one. The quick rundown: The king is alive, Pouf and Youpi become mothers by feeding the king their own flesh to revive him (deeply sexual), everyone resolves to back Gon up against Pitou (potentially to their own death), Gon decides he's going to leave with Piout alone and that his buddies should take Komugi as a hostage, Pouf is making power plays to take advantage of the King's amnesia which is difficult because the three of them can kind of all read each other's minds now, Gon leads Pitou to Kite where they reveal that Kite cannot be helped, Gon doesn't like this.

Corrections: In this episode there's disagreement on how Komugi gets knocked out. Upon review, it's clear that Killua (intentionally?) knocker her out during Pouf attack

This week we cover episodes 127-130, titled Hostility x And x Determination, Unparalleled joy x And x Unconditional Love, Formidable Enemy x And x Clear Objective, and Magic x To x Destroy. Having just watched the episode, it's really not clear how Komugi gets knocked out. It kinda looks like Killua accidentally bonked her in the head with his own head when he was dodging Pouf's attack?

y'know, i've never thought of "insurmountable barrier" as referring to the challenge of fighting pouf. that's really interesting. something about the word choice and context always made me parse it as referring solely to knuckle thinking he'd never be able to talk to pouf man to man, as is sort of his whole approach to the ants.

Sawyer Sipes

yea i’ve always interpreted it as a communication barrier

I think that's it - or that she was wriggling around too much trying to get free and they bonked heads. (why does this sound like a preschool incident report...)

The future big manga arc IS in fact awesome. but ALSO: before the arc even starts, just like five short chapters from where the anime ends, there are two pieces of info revealed that tie a bow on some of the core themes you all talk about. It makes me sad they didn't do just one more episode, though I guess you always have to compromise.

Friends at the Table

I consider fighting Pouf and communicating with Pouf as the same action, to Knuckle. There's not a version of coming to terms with Pouf that doesn't involve first fighting him.

Friends at the Table

There's an audio cue i noticed where there's a clear BONK after pouf had already attacked.

RE:Difficulty reading sequential art (comics/manga/etc.): I cannot recommend enough the original Dragon Ball manga. Toriyama was an incredible paneller and it makes his fight choreography from shot to shot so clear it's like magic.

At 2hrs35min Ali asks "Jack can I ask how often you've been texting -" is that an intentional mix to obfuscate someone's name? I'm just having trouble telling if this is my auditory processing problems or an on purpose thing that I can just stop thinking about

Friends at the Table

actually it's the only manga i've ever read. i read from the start through the king piccolo stuff. it helps that i also was watching the anime, much harder to forget whats going on.

I do think missing out on those reveals does deprive from the show a bit, I hope the MCP gang keeps reading even if they don't talk about it on the show.
