Really hope we can get some thoughts on the insane manga chapters in the future! I’m sad this is ending :(

Friends at the Table

we will definitely catch up with the manga at some point, it's just out of the cards schedule-wise right now. and we always planned to "end" with the end of the anime

M. Night sounds like a fun season! An idea for a bonus episode: the (horrible) faux documentary/found footage horror movie The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan.(though fair warning it IS horrible and has both Adrien Brody and Johnny Depp in it) It was made as a a backfired bit of viral marketing for The Village and I think it's a real "of the times" look at the cultural vibe around Shyamalan in 2004: https://archive.org/details/the-buried-secret-of-m-night-shyamalan

Oh btw def. didn’t mean to give off “nooo give me more content!” though it probably reads like that. Just sad about this season ending. I’m here and very excited for whatever you guys do next!

The descriptions of the Election process reminded me so much of my experience with trying to get involved in local politics, where instead of trying to do actual work, most meetings were spend talking about inner-party minutia and processes. Really enjoyed this! I have no real means to watch the show, but I still enjoyed your conversations. I might try and get my hands on the Manga, because I saw some of what happenes after the Anime was done and I really want to see what else is in there.

The brief aside about The Tick got me. I knew someone was going to rep Griffin but yeah put Griffin Newman in more shit. The fan-canonical Arthur, Orko, and Watto needs some new work.

Banger of an episode! Shout out to Sylvi for the Gon's save/cave jokes. XD I didn't interpret Killua's use of "...Than you'd think" as a canonical fourth-wall break (I think that's just a turn of phrase that you might use just as easily in speech or in an internal thought) but it's interesting to think about why that is. I suspect someone's interpretation of that line might be influenced by whether they have an inner monologue and what form it takes. As I understand it, some people's inner monologues are addressed to themselves, but mine isn't. I didn't have one at all until I was 19 and hosting a student radio show - I gradually switched to always thinking about music as though I was rehearsing for my show, then I started doing it for other media, and before I knew it my entire conscious thought process had transformed into rehearsals of conversations or monologues, never directed to myself. I don't know how common that is, but assuming there's as great a variety of inner monologue styles as there is everything else that humans do, it's believable that Hunter × Hunter characters (who frequently think in powerpoints anyway) would frame many of their thoughts for a non-existent audience. Which is lucky for us, the existent audience! It's also very weird for me to realise that this means the other inner monologues we've heard throughout the series technically *aren't* addressed to someone else. This is a rare instance where the use of "You" narrows down what form of inner monologue a character has! Or it's a translation error, or whatever. Brains are fun!

I don't think any of you have mentioned this so I want to point out that Pariston's full name is, for some reason, Paris Hilton but with the "-ton" moved to the first name. Means nothing obv, but is too obvious for me not to mention every time I hear you say his full name.

I just want to say shoutouts to Sylvi for promising zingers, then proceeding to deliver said zingers. No notes

TrueLily

It's such a weird random detail. Why did Togashi do that. What did he mean.

I believe the gently falling feather Keith was thinking about is from the opening to Forest Gump for what it's worth

In Japanese, Killua's saying "アルカの時間は長いようで短い" – literally "[Her] time as Alluka seems long but is short." I'm seeing translations of it as "She spends less time as Alluka than one would think", which does avoid the "you" but feels slightly awkward for Killua's character voice. I'm not sure I even would've noticed a problem with "you" if that fourth-wall interpretation hadn't been pointed out; I feel like my impulse would be to treat the "you" as a sort of abstract stand-in for "a hypothetical observer". I guess this is sorta the tricky thing about doing close readings of translated media just in general. If I were being careful to avoid that potential reading while trying to keep things natural, I might go with something like "She doesn't actually spend that much time as Alluka," maybe?

TrueLily

Morel being a sea hunter definitely feels kind of random, but it's very funny that the conception of a sea hunter seems to be "pirate." We don't even know what he hunts in the sea!

I want *so badly* for Jack, at minimum, to read on in the manga after hearing the conversation about Gon being healed seemingly without consequences ^.^’
