Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a bunch of M Night Shyamalan movies.

This episode we watched Unbreakable and next time we'll be back with Signs.

Unbreakable is a movie I had basically never heard of, so that's fun. In a million years I couldn't have told you that M Night immediately followed up on the success of The Sixth Sense with another Bruce Willis movie. And it's a superhero movie. I think you could fairly call it the first modern superhero movie but I've got nothing to back that up with. I can tell you it really feels like a prototype for all the pre-iron man superhero movies of the 00s.

Bruce Willis plays David Dunn, a security guard failing as a husband and a father who has to come to terms with the fact that he has superpowers, under the guidance of Samuel L Jackson's mysterious and wealthy character Elijah Price.

are we sure this one is the sixth sense

Keith was probably thinking of Bruce Willis as a boxer because of his character in Pulp Fiction, which came out around the same time

Ratprints

what a wild film Edit: great crossfade into that song at the end haha

I have a theory about why rust is David's favourite colour. We've established that Glass' is purple, which has to be a reference to comics printing history: new and better ways of printing purples and greens in the 60s led to a lot of villains wearing those colours, while the heroes continued to wear red, white, blue and yellow. This film's hero David is worn down, and his weakness is water, so it makes sense to give him a shade of red that's muted and associated with water damage. I still have no idea why his wife's favourite colour is brown.

For reference a 350lb bench press is impressive for a normal non-athlete, but not really at all notable at the level of even college athletes. Competitive bench press is a weird discipline that relies on technique more than maybe any other lift. Specifically as you mentioned it looks like half a rep because the technique aims to minimize the distance the bar travels.

So the real question: is it Paul McCartney : John Lennon :: Gon : Killua, or Paul:John::Killua:Gon? Obviously for purity of heart Paul = Gon ("Mother Nature's Son") and also like Gon Paul "dies" and "comes back to life," but I would argue that Paul pines for John the way that Killua pines for Gon ("Two Of Us"). Unless Yoko Ono is Alluka. The frame doesn't totally work which is why Keith should just embrace the fujo life

I'm really glad Keith kept up with the intro

Also while watching unbreakable I had to keep telling myself the twist isn't going to be the same as it was in sixth sense but it was a very funny angle to think of it from
