The One Piece Podcast presents our topic-focused series: Fight Together. In this series we explore the major themes, stories, influences and ideas in One Piece, as well as the reverberations it has made in the real world. We do not shy away from the uncomfortable. We critique and criticize, and we explore topics that polarize. We hope you listen with open minds and open hearts.

On this second episode of our third season we talk about asexuality and aromanticism, its portrayal in One Piece and how it relates to the real world. On this episode we have co-hosts Zach Logan & Shannon Strucci (video essayist, @struccimovies, @criticalbitcast & @strugglesesh) with guests Tommy Rae (artist, writer and cosplayer), Sai (artist and OPP artist), and Jo (OPP Discord Moderator and contributor)

Available early for patrons! The episode will be publicly available this week!

Joined the Patreon just to access this episode. Thank you to everyone who organized this and participated, and generally helped to make it happen. Back in the day, OP was so comfortable in a way that was really difficult to find in media, and it largely remains so to this day. (Aroace, btw.) In trying to understand the characters' relationships with one another, and coming to terms with the fact that despite everyone clearly loving one another incredibly deeply, "shipping" anyone with anyone else in the crew just didn't feel right, it went a long way toward helping me figure myself out at a time when I didn't know it was possible to be asexual or aromantic, let alone both. I also wanted to leave some more potential resources for anyone looking for more information on the subject, since it came up at the end of the show. Jaiden Animations released a pretty good video about it recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qF1DTK4U1AM YouTube channel The Take did a decent one on asexuality: https://youtu.be/exvbiWWNYww Tara Moonkee recently did a video on amatonormativity, which is an issue the ace and aro and polyamorous communities deal with a lot: https://youtu.be/gsW3VsraJqo The podcast The Fire These Times did an interview with Angela Chen, the author of "Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex" (which is another good resource): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owt2CUfxfvs https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/ace-angela-chen/1136968395?ean=9780807014738 The YA book "Loveless" by Alice Oseman is a good exploration of being aroace from a fictional viewpoint: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/loveless-alice-oseman/1138285683
