This fun looking guy was a model I made way last year, when I was first getting into the swing of making shit in blender and wanted to make a weird guy for NyTavangen, my (currently paused) RPG project.

The concept was that this was a "bush bot", a hypothetical robot thought up by Hans Moravec, a writer whose ideas have been thoroughly harvested by "hard" SF writers. A bush bot is supposed to be able to branch its "fingers" down onto some nano, fractal, tiny level for important work, which is why this guy is covered in spiky tendrils.

NyTavangen is a hard-ish SF world where emulations of the dead but digitized sometimes house their consciousness in non-humanoid bodies as a flex on the more morphologically conservative inhabitants of NyTavangen corporate habitat.

My project with Kay/free_musick is going to involve a lot of sprites, so I decided to start trying to salvage these old NyTavangen beasties who'd otherwise just be collecting dust.

My sprites are made from screenshots taken from multiple angles of a model and then downsized down to 64x64. I was pleased at how well this model survived that process, an how much it looks like a classic Starcraft death animation.

nice to see this animation unfiltered, it translates from the model surprisingly well. i am now thinking about lower scale renders for some of the models i’ve made that have gotten over-detailed
