A Little bit of Process (Patreon)

Thought I'd show one of the ways I do things. A quick collage of images to harvest as textures, just chopping what I want to use in MS paint.
I made a naked guy recently to test out adding clothes to a bare model and as a mannequin for making sure armor and weapons are all to the same scale.
Later, I decided I wanted to make a Blafard, a degenerated cave person. So, I'm mangling the model but decided I wanted a more ghoulish look to go with the pointy teeth.
Recoloring and adding details to the texture collage, sometimes even indulging in making parts of it pretty, as if it's meant to stand on its own, adds a certain depth of feeling to it all for me. I'm a big believer in that idea that an actor should stay in character between acts, that the commitment and willingness to inhabit the other world gives an almost imperceptible certain something that an audience picks up on. It helps to create a mood for myself and let that inform the model and the world it inhabits, to give it another layer of life that hopefully you can feel as well.
