As promised back like cr***....pizza in the oven and i had to spin the block l! ... LOVE that its you two watching this! Mature in depth reaction/review! From 2 non-homosexual men! ...THANK you for not making us wait l ( even though i skipped ahead cause 😬 I doubted yall would come through with the quickness. .and the show was too great to wait, especiallywhen it was sitting right there more available than a £5 lot-lizzard-hold tight to that unservalued proffession)

As much as this show deserves its accolades, it would be shameful not to acknowledge the excellent job you two did in reviewing it. Your commentary was insightful, fun, and respectful, making it a pleasure to rewatch the show with you. I joined Patreon specifically for these reactions. I'm much older than the leads in this series. I grew up in a family and a North America that felt like a fortress of religious homophobia. My future wasn't a dream; it was a sentence. I knew I would spend my life alone, even if I could bring myself to live a lie that would wound an innocent woman. That's why this show hits me so hard. It perfectly conveys the fear that still leads many queer people to try to separate sex from emotion when survival seems on the line. Hookups are fleeting sparks. They leave no mark. But emotional bonds are open flames, a constant threat of wildfire that could not be concealed. I'm so glad there's a show that can bear witness to the struggle and pain that many still endure. Great job! I'm looking forward to many more fantastic reactions from you and the whole team at CineJump.

You asked, so I'm offering. Here are two LGBTQ-themed movies and a TV series I have recently enjoyed that I think would elicit some strong reactions. Heartstopper (TV Series 2022–2024) 4.5/5 Stars • British coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama • Stars Kit Connor (Rocketman 2019) and Joe Locke (Agatha All Along 2024) • Fun, light, and uplifting All of Us Stranger (Movie 2023) 5/5 Stars • British romantic fantasy • Stars Andrew Scott (Sherlock 2010-2017) and Paul Mescal (Gladiator II 2024) • Not fun, nor light, nor uplifting Deathtrap (Movie 1982) 4.5/5 Stars • American black-comedy suspense • Stars Michael Caine (Interstellar 2014) and Christopher Reeve (Superman 1978) • Hilarious and surprising More recommendations available upon request.

It's really important to distinguish between Scott’s oming out and the current situation facing Shane and Ilya; the stakes are fundamentally different. Scotts revelation was spontaneous, but his exit was timed. He came out once his professional goals were met and was ready to retired. His four-year delay after his breakup with Kip proves he wasn't ready to come out until he knew that his professional legacy was safe. This doesn't make his coming out any less beautiful and brave, just different than Shane and Ilya's situation. Shane and Ilya are both active MLH rivals in their prime. Their relationship doesn't just affect their personal lives; it invites scrutiny regarding the 'integrity' of the game. Every play between them would be analyzed for bias or 'fixing,' potentially costing them the trust of their fans, teammates and the league. I mean we see Shane's own mom ask "did you ever let him win", so you know others will question it as well. In the book Shane is aware that he could likely survive coming out as a single gay man. But coming out as Ilya Rozanov’s partner would make every game they play against each other a spectacle that undermines their teammates' hard work. Furthermore, for Ilya, this isn't just a PR risk—it’s a safety crisis. If he were to lose his American contracts he'd be forced to return to a state-sanctioned danger zone. It's extremely important to note that Scott's courage in coming out directly enabled the relationship Ilya and Shane now share. Without his bravery, Ilya would not have envisioned a future with Shane, the cottage would be out of reach, and their love would never have had the chance to bloom.

They are doing a season 2 and it will be based off their book "The long game" it's a different element to this story because a lot of things are revilved.

Sondria Lacewell

One thing i love about the adaptation is that it follows the book to a T. Also something I love and find so sad is that once Ilya decides to come out he is sacrificing the reality of never visiting his mom grave again (the only person he only cares about from his family)

Kris

A lot of people are surprised are by Ilya’s rapid transition from emotionally unavailable to "boyfriend behavior," but this shift isn't a personality inconsistency—it is the result of certainty replacing survival instincts. For years, Ilya’s self-worth was eroded by a family and a country that viewed his existence as a moral failure. To survive, he categorized Shane as a "casual hookup" to protect himself from the rejection he felt was inevitable. This wasn't coldness; it was a trauma-induced barrier. Even his mention of women on the couch in Ep 4 wasn't a manipulation to spark jealousy, but a desperate, insecure attempt to gauge if a future with Shane was even possible. At the cottage, when Shane made it perfectly clear that he wanted a long-term future with him everything changed. Once Ilya knew this without a doubt, his internal struggle ended. He now knows everything he needs to know. Because Ilya’s loyalty is absolute, once he realized he was "allowed" to love Shane without the fear of inevitable abandonment, he committed entirely. His "boyfriend behavior" is simply his natural intensity finally being given a safe place to land.

You're not crying, I'm crying!... You know what I mean. Haha.

Thank you for this - perfectly explained. Way too many people don't realize this. :)

Julie

Your reaction series to this was great!! I can't believe you may have auditioned for Hayden, please let us know if you find the sides. 🤣 I'd like to recommend Interview with the Vampire (2022) televisions series! It has tons of loyal followers that love reactor channels, and season 3 is coming this summer!

I loved your reactions to this show... You really picked up on a lot of the nuances Jacob Tierney talks about in his interviews. The music selection when you listen to the lyrics gives a glimpse into the inner monologue of the characters. I will disagree with you on Shane's mom not needing to apologize and ask for forgiveness. If his parents suspected that he might be gay, they would have had to realize - FIRST - the culture of Hockey - it is still one of the least accepting leagues in male professional sports. They have banned any "rainbow" symbols - flags, tape, bands etc. Although individual teams may have gay pride nights - the league dose not support it. There is only one former player out and they did not make it to the NHL. SECOND - The pressure on Shane to be perfect - be the role model, be the POSTER BOY - the brand deals alone. So yeah - if they thought there was a chance that he might be gay - they did not give him a safe space to come out. Also - Scott coming out, does not open doors for Shane and Ilya to do the same. It is a very different situation - Scott is not involved with another player - on a different team. Think about Yuna's question - you didn't let him win? If they were to come out as a couple there would be tape of every single one of their games - and judgement would be relentless. For Scott and Kips story - I have not yet read the book, but I think the timeline was a little different than presented in this series. Because the Olympics and Cup win for Scott is the same year... and from what I can tell (only in the book - cause Canada actually won the gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics) the USA won the Gold Medal - So Scott won both an Olympic Medal and the "CUP" in the same year... Probably impacting his decision to say F-it. And make the grand gesture. I do agree I hope we get a scene where we see what Scott and Ilya talk about.

Michael.... Did you figure out which part you tried out for.... I could definitely see you as Hayden. How did you wife end up liking the show??

JABY, ASHLEIGH, AND MICHAEL NEED TO WATCH Issa Rae's INSECURE INSECURE INSECURE

Y'all picked up on a lot of nuance that a lot of other reactors missed, bravo! I'm definitely gonna stick around. <3 My recommendations for other series to cover would be either the IWTV tv series or a show from Starz called Black Sails.
