Loving these reactions! This is one of my favorite shows and it’s been great to rewatch it along with people who haven’t seen it before. Can’t wait for next episode’s reaction :) (and Ashleigh was right on the money about waiting… it killed me back then to wait 2 YEARS for season 3 to come out!!)

The show was already pushing it, obviously, but this moment — or rather the explanation in the next episode — is the moment any sensible person was disappointed in how overwrought, brainless, and kitsch this show became. It's not a detective show about a smart detective. It's a fantasy show about a magic detective. I think this would be fine, if it didn't frame itself as the former.

Well, I have just checked 3x1 after seeing this comment. I would say I doesn't see the explaination to be a stretch. Molly was clearly been forshadowed to play some part in Sherlock's survial, because she "doesn't count" and Moriaty will not take her into consideration. Mycroft was clearly supposed to play a bigger part, especially after he admitting to "make a mistake" with Moriaty. The reason of why the abducted girl was afraid of Sherlock was also never clearly solved, with forshadows the body he uses. I think the only problem I have with this is that Sherlock and Mycroft was apprantly completely outplaying Moriaty the whole time. Which, narratively, cheapens the significance of Moriaty as a character, also the emotions and vulnerability Sherlock showed in 2x3. Not to mention how it cheapens the grief of John. They try to resolve John's emotion by letting him be mad at Sherlock, but that still cheapens the dramatic appeal. The stakes are also lowered significantly, that Moriaty was never actually outplaying the Holmes, and it feel quite unsatisfing that the powerful finale of the second season is really just a show. Also, in retrospective, a lot of 2x3 doesn't seem to make sense after the reveal of 3x1. It is true that the show has become weaker after this episode. It doesn't feel as grounded anymore, especially in Season 4, with Sherlock's sister. But I still think the Season 3 is still valuable.

Will you guys do peaky blinders?

And also, after looking more into episode 3, none of the three explainations is acutally confirmed, the first one is Anderson's theory, the second one is that yaori girl's theory, the final one that "Sherlock" explained is acutally Anderson's fantasy, as he said, Sherlock wouldn't be in his flat explaining it to him. It appears the filmmakers figured that no solution they can come up will satisfiy the fans, so they deliberately leave it open and ambiguious. Which means that what you and me have said in this comment sections make no sense, and in the eyes of others, we must have be acting like total idiots.
