I do have something else to say. I don’t know why you guys think that women don’t still die in childbirth. Yes , even today women die in childbirth actually a lot of women. As a matter of fact the United States has a lot. I worked for Health and Social Services Department in California . I knew it still happened . I was told by the doctors and public health nurses that it happens a lot . Don’t take my word for it, look it up.

Heyo, I practice family medicine, and the idea that sex has to hurt the first time for a woman is a myth. A super weird, super gross myth born of centuries of patriarchy and ignorance of female anatomy and pleasure. Yes, the hymen is a thing that exists for some with female bodies, but it is not a thing that needs to break with sex. It is an external structure, a stretchy membrane with a wide variety of variations, none of which block off the vaginal opening. They usually exist to one side and have no functional purpose. Many do not have one at all. Because it is stretchy, it accommodates penetration, and can return to its baseline form afterwards - thus, no physical examination to confirm "virgin" status is possible. If there was a structure that blocked off the vaginal opening before sex, then women would all die as young girls from sepsis because their period blood couldn't exit. It is not normal for women to bleed or feel pain from sex, and if they do, it is most often because someone is doing it wrong. Often because of inadequate stimulation to create arousal that allows lubrication and muscle contracture that makes the vaginal canal extend inward. Sadly, also because of child brides being forced to marry too young before their anatomy is large enough to handle adult size penetration, and/or fear/duress/religious shame. Virginity for women is fetishized so much in popular media, and its pedophilic (innocent young girl fantasy) yet puritanical (the female romantic lead must be "pure") is so old hat, and so gross. I wish it didn't get perpetuated so much in romantic scenes where the woman is clearly aroused but must first wince in pain for no reason when it's her first time. Glad you're enjoying the series. King George is thought to have been either bipolar (type 1 with manic episodes of psychosis at intervals), or more likely, have a genetic condition affecting his liver's ability to filter toxins from the blood. The latter is progressive and would affect his brain more and more over time, whereas bipolar disorder is not progressive but could have been compounded by the onset of dementia later in life. You are right that dementia usually begins to show psychosis much later in life, whereas bipolar disorder usually starts in one's 20s, and the liver disease would also show signs in younger years. The doctor character in this series is definitely on a malevolent power trip, even for that time period. It's pretty funny to suggest just yelling at somebody to be better at thinking would fix their psychotic episodes. Would have made my time with ER psych patients much easier, lol. Unlike you guys, season 2 is my favorite, but Queen Charlotte is a close second (although season 4 is making it harder to choose a favorite, can't wait for your thoughts on that one!). I really want to like QC more, but some of the storytelling is disjointed so that the romance suffers. The hate sex scenes are depressing to me, but they're supposed to be hot I guess? Even when they humiliate each other (like the bathtub scene)? And then it's all suddenly fixed when they have a conversation about what Charlotte overheard, yet supposedly George never asked why Charlotte was mad at him again all of a sudden and he was stuck with "even days." It feels unromantic and gimmicky to me. The rest of the series is good from what I remember, but I have to almost pretend that sequence didn't happen.

I feel like the show kind of communicated that he knew why she was mad. She kept saying "you live for the misery and happiness of a great nation" which she overheard him saying to his Mom. Inferring from that quote.. they've been fighting about what he said. The issue is her misunderstanding his meaning. When they reconcile, she says that quote again (and he's automatically on edge with a 'not this again' vibe) but this time she understands what he meant by it..letting him and the audience know that the fight is over.

jada s

i literally screamed out loud when he said that.😭 like baby, that is halo.

Vee

It was him doubling down and singing it for me 😭😂

Yeah, so they start the hate sex on even days, and she says the “misery and happiness” quote from what she overheard as she leaves the bedroom - at which he looks surprised. Implying it’s the first time he heard her say that. Even if he was supposed to play that differently (not surprised but aware of the ongoing fight), the hate sex is still unromantic, and the issue could be solved with communication like it is when they’re in bed later. He doesn’t disclose his illness in bed then, either, but the fight is resolved.

It does happen a lot in the U.S., especially in southern states and mainly affects women of color. Maternal mortality is among the criteria from the WHO for countries unsafe for women, and the U.S. is on that list for a number of reasons - higher than many first world countries. The U.S. is last behind all other 1st world countries for healthcare in general. The UK sends medical aid missions to southern states because it’s that bad there.

We cannot let Brandon's great jokes go unappreciated. "Victorian's Secret" when talking about their wedding night clothes. and "Somebody take a painting!" Also: HOLY CRAP! I did not put it together before. "The madness of King George." In actual history King George was king during the American Revolution and it came out that he was mad. I never realized the show was getting that close into actual history. It also places the time of the show as mid to late 1700's.
