Queen Charlotte E5-6 Watchalong.mp4

Reel Oddity

This was such a great review. I actually loved Charlotte's speech in episode 5 to her son about love being a choice. She basically tells him that real love isn't magic that happens to a person, and that it's not based on feelings or even chemistry. For a woman who was forced into an arranged marriage that came with a life of isolation and heavy duty, that perspective makes perfect sense, because there were so many times when her feelings for George fluctuated and she tried to leave him (understandably). Her being Queen literally forced her to stay in the marriage whether she always felt they were right for each other or not. We saw how it nearly drove her to the brink, until she had that conversation with Lady Danbury and decided to take her advise about taking control and working with what she has. Leaving George was not an option so she chose love, albeit on her own terms (no longer allowing herself to be pushed around by his mother and the court). Sometimes life hands you circumstances that aren't fair, but if that's the hand that life has dealt you still have a choice to make. If you and your partner are willing to choose to wake up every day and be good to each other, invite each other in, and build toward the future, that's an act of love. It may not result in burning passion but a good life can be had and happiness found. Love and romance have always existed but historically far more people have married based on economic and survival reasons than for personal feelings, and you have to think in that context, yes lots of unhappy unions and dysfunctional families can result, but for every one of those there was a couple who made it work and were happy. It's not as sexy as thinking about passion and instant chemistry, but the backbone of successful marriage is the work you put into it, and the choices you make. Charlotte's perspective is a pragmatic one based on the life she's lived and the sacrifices she's had to make. Her being annoyed when Bridgertons come whining to her about all of their emotions and how they can't be with the people they BURN for makes perfect sense - and is also hilarious. But Charlotte still has a bit of a romantic in her, because she really did love George (passionately) in the end. She's able to be swayed so often because her feelings for her own husband are so deep.

The series is exceptional and adds depth to the older characters on a show focused on younger people.

In my opinion, this is the best one out of all of them including season 4. Shonda Rhimes wrote this one herself based off of characters from Julia Quinn’s books.

This was a great series and it hit me SO MUCH harder than I expected it to. I'm excited to see how this will all tie into the next season.

I knew when they started BRIDGERTON, I KNEW they weren't ready for Queen Charlotte. The final scene breaks most everyone. I think it is wonderful that when I rewatch I have a better understanding of all of these characters. Great reactions, thank you.

Jaby you had mentioned that gay men don’t get divorced that often. Well, when I was working at the Superior Court in California the lawyers were saying they get divorced just as much as anybody else. This was in the Bay Area.

I have different perspective. Based on his disdain on how the king lived a privileged life, the way he talked down about the royal lifestyle, and how he said its the cause of the king's mental illness? The doc definitely had malicious intent and a grudge against the crown. Rather his hatred comes from jealousy or simply from the belief that being handed things versus earning them is just inherently evil/wrong, who's to say? But his words and beliefs belay the truth.

I see some truth (a lot of truth) to what the queen says. Therapy and EQ teaches us that our emotions are ours to control not for them to control us. If you are properly regulated and someone does something you dont like, you acknowledge it and move on. But if anger rules you? You let it out with violence. When someone touches me without my consent, i walk away. When i relay these tales to my friends, they all say they would have hit the person. I am me, not my emotions. So if i dont let them rule me then yes, i CHOOSE who i love and who i dont. Love is a conscious decision you make everyday. Western media says otherwise and there is a lot of social amd fictionally programming folks arent aware of til they go through therapy and self reflection. To me, fsiry tales are ROMANTIC, full of romantic gestures, but they arent about love. There are exceptions to this (beauty and the beast for example though some would argue its a tale of stockholme syndrome. But i digress). I say all this to say: hyorin sang it best in her first solo song "out of all the people in the world, its YOU i choose to love". This is why i keep kprean and kpop. Aligns perfectly with my own individual out look on life, which contradicts the western view of things. Love is a choice, family first, money is meaningless. Americans cant relate 😭😭😭😭

Yep. She took charge of her destined. "Im stuck with this man. I can either choose to hate him and be miserable or choose to love him and be happy". Life is so simple if people just looked at it common sensically and with full autonomy.

Hard agree. This is the best bridgerton and the one ive seen the most (5 times and counting). 10/10, no notes.
