The person Stephen kills (who is attempting to kill William) was a hired assassin. I forget where I read that; it might have been behind-the-scenes material. Despite its well-documented historical inaccuracies (e.g., the Battle of Stirling Bridge - where is the bridge?), I really love this movie. As someone who was raised in Scotland and northern England, it feels like a very personal movie to me, and it gets to me every time.

Love this film and great filmmaking, but their are tons of historical inaccuracies with this film. If you want to see a film that is more historical accurate about the battle for Scotland’s freedom and a more accurate portrayal of Robert the Bruce checkout Outlaw King on Netflix. It stars Chris Pine as Robert the Bruce. Also stars Florence Pugh, Aaron Taylor -Johnson, and Stephen Dillane.

This movie is filled with historical inaccuracies, but I still love it so much. You should watch Apocalypto. It's another great film directed by Mel Gibson.
