Chris Nolan doing inception on the audience at the end is so much fun. He has publicly stated what the answer is fwiw, but I wouldn't repeat it somewhere like here, it is easy to find though. I don't really see a Matrix inspiration personally but each to their own - it's definitely a big bag of genres all smushed together in a way that probably shouldn't work. Sure there's some vfx that were largely pioneered by John Gaeta and that team, but I don't think conceptually there's a lot of similarity. Also if Kristen hasn't ever fully seen The Matrix I have thoughts :p

I think after hearing the ladies views about dreams, beliefs & understanding what may or may not be real within the mind in regard to this movie, I def. recommend the movies, "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams. As well as "A Beautiful Mind" with Russell Crowe. 2 very different movies but both such Beautiful and Amazing Storylines.

This one definitely takes multiple watches because the dialog is so intricate and the ideas even more so. Also, you just have to stand back and admire Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance of the practical effects in the hotel hallway fight scene! When I first watched the film, I concluded that Dom was awake in the end. Though that probably has more to do with what I wanted the end to be. A classic case of “We see things as we are, not as they really are.” It was too frustrating to think that he might still be down in limbo with his kids waiting at home. Then it occurred to me that if he was still in a dream, there’s no reason to think any of it was real — the dead wife, the kids at home, dream sharing, etc. We dream all sorts of crazy scenarios about people who don’t exist in our real lives. Why would this dream be any different? And we only remember of fraction of our dreams. So who knows what kind of crazy worlds we build in our sleep? It makes my brain hurt just thinking about it! Still, I’d rather believe that it’s all true. Particularly because I like the storyline that Fischer had — the catharsis he had with his father in the end. I think that was beautifully acted by Cillian Murphy! And I like the idea of making peace with someone even after they’re gone. After all, I think what the living believe/perceive/remember is all that matters at that point.

Short story long. I remember when this came out, i seen it like once and the ending went over my head, I just assumed it was a happy ending. Cut to me checking out features on my new MacBook. And the visualizer with iTunes music. This hippy lady co-worker friend of mine said "omg that's awesome and trippy!" And I instinctively said "No, what's awesome and trippy is Inception!" So she goes home and watches it, next day she comes at me saying "what the hell kind of ending was that?! Is it spinning, did it tobble?" 🤔 and I was like maybe I should watch it again? 😆 because I didn't remember that reaction to the ending
