Back rooms seem like an SCP story. Where the meaning changes with each telling and iteration, each getting stranger with each persons input.

Ergo Somnium

I wasn't really sure about how to feel about this movie initially, but I was very pleasantly surprised. SPOILERS BELOW: . > >> >>> One thing I want to point out is that , in this iteration or area of the backrooms it seems to be heavily influenced by Clark's state of mind. As a result the people who enter it and stay within it are treated the way they are based on what Clark subconsciously wants / desires from them. Clark seems to be a deeply sad and lonely person, which his therapist outright calls him on. As such, that's the reason that the boyfriend died, while Kat stayed alive initially. Because I suspect that Clark secretly longed for female companionship - a natural thing after leaving a serious relationship like marriage. And, when Kat wouldn't go along with it - well you saw what happened. He kidnapped his therapist and tried the same thing, only she was finally able to get through to him and offer him a moment of clarity. The problem with that is, Clark's subconscious did NOT agree with it in the sense that it only had longing. It wanted to be connected at all costs. So it killed Clark, and tried to take the therapist to prevent her from escaping. The evidence of this is basically that they were able to talk freely the entire time -until Clark's epiphany and honesty with himself. Only then did the creature he'd been co-existing with attacked him and then went after her. Really interesting as it's the first piece of media that ever helped me understand more about the backrooms. People often say "lost" but that's because they attribute a sense of direction. More aptly, it's best to say "deeper", like sinking into the sunken place (subconscious). That made more sense to me than anything ever used to try to describe the backrooms.
