The director of this film Michael Gondry, would remind Kate Winslet, “Be as over the top as you want. This is a comedy.” But then on the other side with Jim and say “This is a drama, and not a comedy.” What seemed like contradictory advice definitely worked well for the two lead characters in the film.

I highly recommend watching the Jim Carrey dramedy, The Majestic. It is directed by Frank Darabont, director of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Fun fact about the film: Jim Carrey actually learned how to play piano for the film and actually played the songs live on set, but what you actually hear is another pianist on the soundtrack itself.
